Jon doesn’t even have any real opinion about the Starks - he didn’t hate Robb Stark in school like he probably should have, considering the history between their families, but they also weren’t friends, either. But what he does have an opinion about is this tradition; wealthy families auctioning off their daughters to the highest bidder.
Not all of them do it anymore, though. Most wealthy kids end up dating each other, anyway, so it's not like the arranging is always necessary. He’d always heard good things about Ned Stark, and so Jon had been surprised to hear that he had agreed to the proposal. Selling off his daughter to save his failing business.

Jinshi clenches his fists and presses them to his forehead. "An unfortunate happenstance, I've heard. I don't believe she realized who she was aiding."
"You're right, I don't think she did! She seems unwitting by the hearts she's laid to waste in recent days. Nor the workload she's no doubt rained down on your office. How similar you two are," she teases. "The Emperor informed me of the trade dispute. It is regrettable that this should be what forces us together, but there is no better time than the present. There are words to be had—words that should have been said sooner."
When he does not answer, she adds, "There was a night that you made a shocking and forward declaration. That was nearly two years ago now."
Jinshi understands the underlying question: why have you not married Maomao yet?

“Come on Lahan, admit it,” a noisy bureaucrat from the Board of Rites teases during one of those social gatherings. “You have to be relieved that the apothecary girl didn’t choose to move in the family’s estate.”
Lahan brushes the subject aside. “I assure you our family is immensely proud of my esteemed sister’s achievements in the medical office. I can only be supportive of her decision to prioritize her career.” For the sake of boyhood, though, he relents, “I’ll admit she is a handful.”
Or: They are not biological siblings. They weren’t raised together, or in the same way. In fact, if Maomao had any say in this, there would be no family ties to speak of.
