I don’t understand why you did this favor for me,” Venti says, “But thank you. Don’t say it’s just your duty,” Venti adds when Xiao opens his mouth. “Because I don’t think it is.”
Before Xiao can answer, Venti turns and walks inside. He takes the elevator up alone, and when he arrives home, lays down in his own bed. From his small window, he can see the lights of the city, which are darker than usual.
He thinks that maybe the Judge is too sweet for his own good. That if he were human he might be able to look for something else in the way Xiao breathes when he looks at him. There is not anyone in the world who understands Xiao, and there is no one in the world who knows Venti. And Venti’s heart is locked in a metal castle in the center of the city.
He is not human. He is just a little wind spirit.
[A curse is spreading across Teyvat, and Xiao is one of the few humans tasked with keeping corruption from entering Liyue's walls. Venti is a wind spirit trying to find (in the only human words that make sense) the heart that he has lost.

“For some, it might be,” Xiao says, echoing his earlier thoughts. “Do you think that’s what freedom means for you, Cecili?”The bard lets out a small, wry laugh. “What do I know of freedom,” he says, and watches as the grass blades drift away in the wind.
A stray amnesiac bard makes a home for himself in Qingce Village. Despite himself, Xiao visits, again and again.
