Summary
Nico Zimmer is a Warden - a multiversal monster hunter that deals with the eldritch horrors of the Void whenever and wherever they emerge. It's a brutal job, that leaves lasting scars. Incinerating planets to halt the spread of Void Incursions is just another day in the office, no matter the billions dead.
Miss Vertin is the Timekeeper of the St. Pavlov Foundation - a chronicler of places and people that are about to be erased by The Storm; an unknowable temporal apocalypse that is slowly but surely driving their world backward through time. Getting to know people who are soon to die is the bedrock of her job.
Both are hopelessly broken people, struggling towards uncertain and unhappy futures, with the horrors and the predators of the multiverse circling ever closer with each day that passes. A Wardens operation gone disastrously wrong arranges a chance for the two to cross paths, by the longest of odds. Together, they will need to contend against the implacable doom of The Storm, the cynical bureaucracy of the Foundation, the magical terrorism of Manus Vindictae, and darker forces still.
And maybe, just maybe, they might find some scraps of happiness and a chance to unfuck themselves, however minutely.
