“You’re doing great, now just breathe. And tell me four things that you can feel.”
Mel swallowed, eyes still glued to the ground.
“The ground— under my feet. My dress — the zip against my back. This desk. And—” She hesitated, fumbling for a fourth.
He watched her a second before he reached out, his hand hovering between them. His fingers curled around her wrist very tentatively, like he was still giving her the chance to refute the contact. But she didn’t.
And he was gentle, thumb pressing just enough to ground her, before he intertwined their fingers, his wedding band cold against her skin. The blur in her vision was clearing, but the dread in the pit of her stomach still remained. He squeezed her hand, bringing her back.
“Your hand,” She whispered, relishing in the warmth.

Summary
It was impossible to comprehend, even for her mind. Humanity being gone was an abstract number about something happening in another galaxy. Cooper being gone she could picture just fine. She was the last human in the universe. Fighting isolation with all the equipment she needed to restart humanity.
Then she wasn't alone any more.

Brand smiled to herself. She kept reminding herself that they barely been friends, but for the first time, she felt that she had seen the real Joseph Cooper. Not heartbroken, or worried about Murph, or furious at her, or fighting for his life... Or come to that, broken down by a life he didn't like and bitter from dreams unfulfilled. With his lifelong ambition finally achieved, sitting out under a forever sky, she felt like she was seeing his soul, set free at last.
And she liked what she saw.

Winter had hit the Heartsteel house full force, meaning literally everyone but K'Sante was sick with something.
Call it good immunity or what have you, but K'Sante rarely found himself being sick. Hardly ever in fact. He tallied it up to his good habits; eating healthy, drinking water, exercising, and sleeping well.The rest of the band did not have all of those things even close to mastered.
