Summary
June was - on occasion - wrong, although Alex knew better than to say this to her face. He didn’t have a fire under his ass. The fire was in his brain, spreading like wildfire in a tinder-dry Texan drought. He had never known how to explain what that was like to her - where she saw things in storyboards, his brain was an ever-expanding web of connections, his attention tripping from thread to thread quicker than most people could follow.
Most of the time, he loved it. When your thoughts move at the speed his do, you can run rings around the privileged white boys who fill the NYU law lectures in a mock trial. Flirty banter is a breeze when you’ve got five different comebacks to pick from. Having four trains of thought running in parallel in your head is a goddamn gift for an aspiring lawyer and politician.
But some days…
Alex has developed some... interesting coping strategies for his ADHD over the years, but he has kept his love of ropes secret from everyone. There are some things that you just can't bring up in polite conversation, even with the love of your life...

Beep.
Alex was usually a light sleeper, but on the rare nights he slept deeply he crawled to awareness through heavy molasses. Limbs heavy, head muzzy, all he knew was that whoever set that godawful alarm tone was in for a mouthful when he could make the words go again.
Beep.
He peered around the room blearily, not knowing where on the fucking planet he was waking up this time. Not DC. Not Austin. Not Kensington - not nearly enough ridiculous gold furniture. It was too homey for a hotel room, but too bare to be a home. He wracked his brain for his internal agenda, that buzzing to-do list that never ended and… Llynwermod.
Alex is rudely awoken from sleep by the loudest beeping known to mankind. He'd been expecting a lazy morning in bed with his boyfriend, but Henry is nowhere in sight, and the noise just. won't. STOP. Just what in the hell is going on beyond his bedroom door?

Henry likes the rhythm of a morning routine. Even in the deepest grip of insomnia or when his brain was padded with the cotton wool numbness of depression, there’s always been comfort in knowing the steps he will take each day to get from the final snooze of his alarm to something resembling functionality. You don’t need to think when there’s a plan to follow.
Childhood mornings were filled with Bowie and Kate Bush, his parents nudging him step by step from his jim-jams into his school uniform and out to school with laughter, love and the occasional dash back for a forgotten school cap. Eton was cold showers, long dining hall tables and over-stewed tea served lukewarm from massive steel urns. He’d chosen silence and solitude for his mornings at uni and the long blur of his gap year.
And now, it seemed he had chosen to move in with a full-scale hurricane of a human.
Or Henry thrives on his morning routine and Alex wouldn't know a routine if he tripped over one.

Alex has never met his soulmate.
Well; not yet anyway.
The only birthmark he has is on right arm, near his shoulder, seven moles that stand out in his dark skin. He’d gotten a tattoo there just a few months ago, thin lines uniting each dot like a bright constellation in the night sky.

They know about the Henry Fox, who followed his father's footsteps to become one of the finest captains of all time. They know that an injury forced him out of the field right at the prime of his career, cutting short a future full of even greater accomplishments. They know that even as he retreated from the frontlines, his love for space, for exploration, has never wavered. Henry's always struggled to get past the inevitable road bump of his classification when it comes to finding a partner. In an ideal world, that sort of thing wouldn't matter. He'd be able to walk into a bar and find someone to take home, wouldn't have to bother with anything aside from just good, casual sex between two people— status aside.
He's not really expecting to find that sort of thing at all, but he's certainly not expecting Alex Claremont-Diaz to be the one that makes all of his wildest dreams come true.
