Summary
Regulus is 15 when Sirius escapes. Alone, he suffers through abuse, losses and homelessness before he’s 19 talking to a stranger in an alleyway. Somehow, one small interaction leads to him being swept up in a circus he hasn’t seen since he was 5 years old.
James understands the circus well, better than most people. He watched his father do this job before him and he knows he has massive shoes to fill as his successor. Determined to be the best ringleader Circus Solis has ever seen and make his father proud, the lines all seem to blur when a small boy carelessly waltzes into the big top.
Though, everyone knows what the circus is really for, why everyone really comes to watch and James especially is acutely aware.

And it was exactly then that Remus appeared from the other side of the camp.
He was walking quickly, as if someone had called him away from work. An old dark coat hung over one shoulder, and in his hands he carried a tin bowl which he set down absently on the nearest step before he reached them. The light fell across his face, and Pandora saw again what she had noticed beside the lion cage: something in him that looked almost like exhaustion until you realised it wasn’t. He took in the group with a glance, lingered on Pandora, and seemed, from everyone’s expression alone, to understand that something inconvenient had happened.
“Why is everyone looking like that?” he asked.
“Because your night is about to get worse,” Mary said cheerfully.
“I was afraid of that.”
James spread his hands.
“Our volunteer from Lily’s act would like to join the circus.”
Remus looked at Pandora.
Not down at her. Not suspiciously. Just directly.
“No.”
