Mia dies when the Hound Wolf Squad guns her down, as in my version, Miranda was possessing her through a mental link via the Megamycete; using her as a host to influence the Winters family and gain information. Ethan is obviously still upset over her death, but I feel their love died all the way back in Louisiana, so he handles it better than he probably should, and focuses on saving his pup, Rose.
However, his heat begins halfway through and he needs...assistance.
