    Summary

Samira Mohan was very good at compartmentalizing. She was also very good at not being chosen. Always second place, always close, but not quite. Salutatorian in high school, second chair in violin, below Langdon to Robby, and always an afterthought to her mother after her fathers death. Not being chosen by Abbot was just another thing to add to the list.

    Summary

Jack closes his eyes, tries to remember what happened. His shift ending. Snow falling heavily. The sidewalk to the parking garage slick. Samira moving towards the bus stop, slipping but catching herself. Him offering to drive her home, the desire to be in her presence just a little longer. The warmth of his car's heater. The skid of a delivery truck on the black ice coming at them head on. The crash of metal and glass. Fighting with the medics when the ambulance arrived. Fighting to get to her.

"Samira." He sits up on the cot, looking around him wildly. She'd been put into an ambulance before him. Flashes of her being pulled from his arms by EMTs while he fought to keep her. "Where is she?"

"Just got in before you." Langdon assures him. "Robby's got her. She's safe."

"I need to see her." he tries to get out of the bed, but Jesse and Donnie are on his other side pulling him back while Langdon pushes against him. Jack's hand flies out, grips the younger doctor's wrist tightly. "I swear to whatever god you believe in, Langdon, I will knock you out if I don't lay eyes on her in the next minute."

    Summary

“Jack Abbot, if you do not put something inside of me in the next five seconds I will take your carbon-fibre foot and shove it up your–” she breaks off with a cry, falling back to the sheets as Jack finally worms his middle and ring fingers inside of her.

He cocks his head to the side. “I know you have better bedside manner than that, baby. I think we need to work on your ‘please’ and ‘thank yous’.”

    Summary

What he doesn’t miss is the way the student goes to take the GlideScope right off of Mohan’s hands.

    Jack forgets about gentleness.

“What are you doing?” He demands. Ogilvie turns, blinking owlishly.

“She called me over to intubate.”

Jack’s brows raise. Something white-hot and indignant straightens his spine. “She,” he scoffs. “Dr Mohan, your senior resident,” Jack pauses for emphasis, “Said absolutely no such thing."

OR: When Samira brings him in on a procedure, Ogilvie crosses the line from eagerness into disrespect. Jack is there to see it. He does not like what he sees.

    Summary

"It had never been a question of wanting children for either of them; they were aligned on that. In the dreams of their future, there they were, perhaps with dark eyes like their mother or freckles like their father, almost certainly having the soft curls passed down from both sides.

They didn’t talk about it a lot, and when they did it was a distant thing, both practical and fantastical: silly conversations, like how they agreed that Mohan-Abbot sounded better than Abbot-Mohan, or which of their coworkers they'd hypothetically allow to babysit, but also serious considerations, like deciding to talk to their accountant about opening a 529 account, or how they wanted their kids to have siblings so they'd never be lonely."

a.k.a. Dr. Samira Mohan's period is late.
