A few seconds tick by, achingly slow. He doesn’t budge. Suo pokes him a little harder, but Sakura remains stubbornly put.
Until he steps out of this hospital, Nirei is not dead.
“Sakura-kun,” Suo repeats, his voice a little more clipped this time. “We need to go.”
“You can head on first,” Sakura whispers, his eyes trained on the floor and his hands grasped between his legs. He doesn’t trust himself to look up and see the world for what it is now, for what it lacks. “I’ll keep waiting.”

And so they head out. Nirei stays on campus not too far from town. It's a quick bus ride there, but Suo follows him all the way to the bus stop and even stays to wait with him, sitting down with their thighs pressed together. The night breeze is chilly enough that Nirei regrets not bringing a jacket, though he bites his tongue about it.
Still, Suo, ever perceptive, notices. Before he can stop him, Nirei feels the drape of a heavy fabric over his shoulders. He huffs, already recognising the scent and weight of Suo's coat.
"Ah," Suo tuts as Nirei opens his mouth to protest. It's not the first time they've done this back-and-forth, and Nirei has a feeling it won't be the last. Or, he hopes it won't be the last. "You'll be cold if you don't bundle up."

Understandably, Sakura chokes on his rice when he hears that. Ears firetruck-red, he stares at her once he's gotten the coughing under control, his expression as incredulous as she's ever seen it.
