-- Stede Bonnet is recently divorced and getting on with his life with the help of his friends. It’s Halloween season and Stede’s going to a haunted house with the crew. It’s Stede’s first time going to a haunted attraction. He picks the VIP option, a more extreme experience which allows actors to touch the patrons.
-- Edward Teach has been working as a haunt actor for many seasons. This year he’s been hired by an attraction where actors are permitted to touch guests to give them an extra scare. His character is one he’s perfected over the years, the pirate Blackbeard. He’s gotten weary of being a haunt actor, so he hopes this new gig will bring some more oomph to his life.

Ever since he left his clan several years ago, Ed has been living alone in an antique store. It's a nice life. Lots of things to borrow. Plenty of fabric scraps to turn into pillows and blankets and rugs. But it does get awfully lonely. When a music box arrives at the store with a handsome figurine inside, Ed becomes completely transfixed by it. Enough to try something silly and stupid and crazy on the human holiday of "Halloween." Like kiss the porcelain figure to life.

Summary
At nearly 50 years old, Stede Bonnet inadvertently ends up at the Winter Olympics, the sole competitor for Aotearoa New Zealand in biathlon. With barely three weeks notice, he’s out of depth and worries he’s not adequate.
Ed “Blackbeard” Teach won 13 medals in the Summer Olympics for AoNZ two decades ago. Someone thought it was a good idea to bring former athletes to the Winter games—so here he is, taking selfies with figure skaters, going viral with the curlers, and freezing his ass off on the skeleton track. The media may think Stede’s got no hope, but Ed finds him fascinating.
When Stede and Ed meet, the connection is instant. But as Stede’s events loom, will he be able to compete at the Olympic level? Will he disappoint his crew and his family back home? Worse, will he disappoint Ed?
