When he opened his eyes, there was a deer there.
A deer.
It was a fallow deer from the looks of it.
Slowly, he pushed himself back up the tree to try and create distance. The deer took his movement as a sign and slowly trotted around before sitting down, tucking its legs underneath its body and leaning into Merlin's side.

Summary
Arthur has never cared about being proper around Merlin because Merlin has never been one to treat him properly. Still, it's rare for Arthur to slip and use his alpha voice, knowing that, even to the beta he believes Merlin to be, it's an overt exertion of power. The few times Arthur has commanded his servant in such a way, he usually orders Merlin to "shut up" or "go away", and Merlin can play it off like he's following Arthur's orders too literally in retaliation, until he's able to find the one alpha that knows about him (thank the Gods for Lancelot!) and convince him to override Arthur's order with his own.
This time he doesn't get the chance.
[Merlin gets stuck in Arthur's chambers without his suppressants or his scent blockers. Things turn out much better than he expects...]
