Work Text:

Fei Du glances at his silver wristwatch for what feels like the thousandth time that evening. Tick tock, tick tock. Fei Du sighs as he scoots out of the chair he’s been sitting in for the past two hours. He’s late again, Fei Du clears the dining table of one, lonely set of dirty dishes before feeding the two, hungry cats pawing at his legs (one more furiously than the other) after rinsing the dishes in the sink. When he checks his smartphone for the time once again whilst towel drying his medium brown, shoulder-length hair after taking a quick, steaming hot shower, he frowns. It isn’t unusual for his boyfriend, Luo Wenzhou, to come home late from work some nights being that, unlike Fei Du who has a set schedule of working from 9 to 5, he is a police officer. Knowing that doesn’t make Fei Du feel any better about his inner turmoil though. For the past week and a half, Luo Wenzhou hasn’t been able to make it home in time for dinner, let alone have time to cuddle on the couch with the cats while watching a movie on TV or have a passionate round of sex (or two) in bed with Fei Du before they fall asleep in each other’s arms; the most he manages to do every day without fail since the start of his overtime schedule at work is greet Fei Du “hello” with a kiss on the cheek before heading straight into the bedroom and passing out face down onto the mattress. Sometimes, Fei Du finds him so exhausted from work that he even forgets to remove his shoes by the door, leaving Fei Du to take them off for Luo Wenzhou himself to not dirty the sheets with whatever grime he stepped in while on the job. The torture inflicted on Fei Du unfortunately doesn’t end there, and continues until the next morning where, for once, Luo Wenzhou wakes up earlier than said person, showers, and head out the front door before Fei Du even has the chance to pour himself his first cup of sugary sweet coffee for the day. Fei Du won’t admit it, but it’s lonely being ignored and left alone by your significant other for most of the evening for the past week and a half in their shared apartment, and there is only so much he can handle when it comes to taking care of their two pets by himself.

“You’re late.” Fei Du comments as Luo Wenzhou walks into the bedroom just 30 minutes shy of midnight.

“Hey, babe,” As per usual as of lately, Luo Wenzhou greets Fei Du with a peck to his cheek before rummaging through the drawers of his dresser to find a gray pair of sweatpants and a long sleeved, fitted, black t-shirt to sleep in. “Sorry. Can we talk about this tomorrow morning? Work has been keeping me overtime. I just want to go to sleep right now, honestly.” Noticing the change in his lover’s expression as he gets dressed for bed, Luo Wenzhou attempts to remedy the situation by leaning over to kiss him on the lips this time as he joins him under the covers, but Fei Du turns his mouth away before that can happen. “Hey, don’t make that expression, baby. I love you~”

“You said you were tired.” Fei Du focuses his attention on gently petting Luo Yiguo who has fallen asleep on his lap, a rare occurrence for the grumpy, old cat who didn’t even like Fei Du when they first met in Luo Wenzhou’s apartment, hiding under Luo Wenzhou’s couch as if he were something repulsive to look at.

Luo Wenzhou sighs, and pulls Fei Du’s hand away from Luo Yiguo, kissing his knuckles one by one before clarifying, “I am tired right now, baby, but I don’t want to go to sleep with you angry at me for something I don’t possess any control over.”

“‘m not angry with you.” Fei Du mutters, averting his eyes from Luo Wenzhou’s gaze. He retracts his hand from Luo Wenzhou’s grasp and carefully lifts Luo Yiguo out of his lap, putting him onto the floor, and although the cat seems to pause to give him a glare for momentarily disturbing his peaceful sleep, he soon walks off, joining their other cat who is fast asleep in the living room. “You said we’ll talk about it tomorrow morning, so we’ll talk about it tomorrow morning, alright?” Fei Du removes his glasses, and folds them on his nightstand. He then kisses him on the corner of his lips, and settles down on the far side of the bed, his back turned away from Luo Wenzhou.

“Alright.” Luo Wenzhou’s reply comes quietly as the light on his own nightstand switches off, and Fei Du’s heart silently aches for him in the darkness.

Luo Wenzhou is already awake when Fei Du wakes up the next morning to the dawn seeping in through the light, linen curtains of their bedroom window. Fei Du, however, doesn’t know what to say to him after last night, and proceeds to avoid him by going about his normal, solo morning routine before Luo Wenzhou ruins it all by handing his boyfriend his first cup of coffee that’s been sweetened with cream and sugar just to his liking.

“I have to go now, but I’ll try to come back home early tonight, okay?” Luo Wenzhou pecks his cheek before crouching down to slip on his work boots in the doorway.

After debating whether or not to say it to him over and over again for a while in his head, Fei Du adjusts his lover’s crooked tie as he’s about to step out the front door and tells him, “Have a good day.” with a firm squeeze to his left shoulder. The words feel awkward leaving Fei Du’s mouth. This isn’t what he wanted to say to him, not even in the slightest. He had actually wanted to take back the words which he had told Luo Wenzhou last night, to apologize and say that he just misses him. However, this is all he can do for now until later comes, and they can set things right between them.

It’s rare to see a baffled expression coming from Luo Wenzhou who’s normally the epitome of cool and serious, but it quickly turns into one of endearment when he realizes how hard Fei Du is trying to apologize to him. “Yeah, you too, Fei Du.”

Fei Du groans as the man with the killer, thousand watt smile that made him fall in love with him in the first place exits their apartment; he truly doesn’t deserve this man.

~ ~ ~

It’s past 8 PM when Fei Du saunters into the bureau. The receptionist pays no mind to him, busy with an obviously tipsy elderly man talking her ear off.

“Not finished yet?”

Luo Wenzhou doesn’t even look up from the case files he’s been racking his brain over for the past week and a half. He knows that voice; he’s heard that voice thousands of times, in thousands of different ways over the past seven years that they’ve known each other. “What’re you doing here, Fei Du?” Luo Wenzhou sighs, marking another location on one of the maps laid out in front of him with a big, red X with the tip of a permanent marker that’s been used so many times the ink is starting to gradually fade out at the end of his pen strokes.

Fei Du has to restrain himself from touching his boyfriend’s cheek. Luo Wenzhou looks especially tired tonight, dark circles detracting from his usually bright, handsome facial features. “I come bearing gifts for your hardworking team.” He dangles two, white plastic bags full of the finest takeout food he can offer them without his boyfriend lecturing him about his spending habits once again after they return home in front of Luo Wenzhou’s face.

Luo Wenzhou closes the case files, and finally looks up at him then, a furrow forming between his brows. “You didn’t have to do that.”

“I know, but it’s been a while since I’ve treated our children~” Even the playful smile on Fei Du’s face isn’t enough to dissipate Luo Wenzhou’s exhaustion. “Tao Ran’s already gone home?” There’s a bit of disappointment in Fei Du’s voice as he asks this, if only because he hasn’t seen Tao Ran in a while and he’s fun to tease about his long time crush turned girlfriend.

Luo Wenzhou rubs his temples as he leans back into his desk chair. “No, he’s out patrolling the area with one of our new recruits and Xiao Haiyang tonight.”

Fei Du opens his mouth to respond to him, but before he can speak, Lang Qiao knocks on the doorframe of Luo Wenzhou’s office, interrupting their conversation. “Apologies, Captain, but the victim from last night is ready to speak with you now.” She too looks like she hasn’t slept much for the past week and a half either, but she still manages to nod her head in acknowledgement of Fei Du’s unexpected presence.

Luo Wenzhou rises from his desk. There’s an apologetic hesitation in his body language, his eyes not moving from the spot where his boyfriend stands across the room from him.

Fei Du, however, ignores it, continuing the conversation from earlier with ease, truly the mark of a well-adjusted businessman who knows when to quit while he’s ahead. “I see. Then, don’t mind me.” He passes the two bags of food over to Lang Qiao who doesn’t seem to know what to say in response to him at that very moment, feeling like she interrupted something she shouldn’t have beforehand, and waves, walking out of Luo Wenzhou’s office towards the cafeteria with his hands in the pockets of his khaki trench coat.

After briefly shutting his eyes in order to strengthen his resolve after Fei Du’s sudden (but welcome) disruption to his workflow, Luo Wenzhou shifts his attention back to his subordinate who, on the flip side, is trailing behind him, lost in thought, and the task at hand: interviewing the third victim in a string of robberies around town. “So, you were saying?”

Glancing back at Fei Du’s solemn, distant figure one more time as she walks with Luo Wenzhou to the examination room, Lang Qiao finally gathers the courage to ask him, “Are you having problems with your lover at home, Captain? It’s rare for Mr. Fei to show up here nowadays, much less with food to feed the entire team.” She peeks inside of the plastic bag, the scent of freshly made dumplings, meat, rice, and spicy vegetable dishes making her mouth water.

Annoyed by the reminder of his incompetence from the night before and his inability to say anything gratifying to Fei Du that morning, Luo Wenzhou snaps before ordering her, “Who asked you? Lang Qiao, distribute the food to whoever’s on site and hasn’t eaten dinner yet while it’s still warm.”

“Yes, sir!” Lang Qiao scurries off, only to remember halfway in that she hasn’t briefed Luo Wenzhou on what the victim had to say to her yet.

~ ~ ~

Fei Du sighs once Luo Wenzhou is out of sight, having disappeared into the privacy of the examination room with the victim—a girl in her late 20s, reasonably pretty according to the gossip amongst the young men in his boyfriend’s division that still remain at the office collecting overtime paychecks Fei Du overhears while passing by them. Regrettably, it looks like Luo Wenzhou will also be working late tonight, and so he can’t simply whisk him away and treat him to a much overdue dinner together after making a considerable effort to bring him home earlier than what’s become “the usual”, but on the brighter side of things, he can’t deny what being able to see a handsome man in uniform (who also happens to be his boyfriend) hard at work does to his softened heart. Fei Du walks around the bureau; the station’s layout is already quite familiar to him, having collaborated briefly on a case with them before, and so, within no time, he greets the coffee machine (which has obviously seen better days from the sorry state that it’s currently in) as if it’s an old friend, and makes himself a cup of the piping hot, muddy brown liquid. Fei Du takes a sip of the coffee and then scowls. Unfortunately, the sesame oil flavor of it has not changed and furthermore, it uncomfortably lingers on his tongue, but it also reminds him of the days when he and Luo Wenzhou were nothing more than acquaintances pursuing the same man in hopes of finding a lifelong companion for themselves, and he chuckles recalling their past interactions, once like cats and dogs, and how they were both looking in the wrong places for love. After taking a few more sips of that wretched excuse for what’s unfortunately labeled as coffee, he plops down onto one of the chairs in the waiting room and pulls out his PSP, loading his last save file on the game Luo Wenzhou recently bought for him as a Christmas present.

He isn’t sure how many minutes pass by when a deep, rich voice sounds from up above him. “Oi, I’m done now.” Luo Wenzhou is standing before him and lightly taps one of the legs of Fei Du’s chair with his foot to garner his full attention. “Did you eat?”

Fei Du grins. “No, but,” He pauses his game, a teasing glint in his eyes as he replies, “please, if you’re going to treat me to cafeteria food again, I’ll have to pass. Yours and my idea of ‘dates’ are completely different things, shixiong.”

Luo Wenzhou tsks, and pulls on his winter coat over his police uniform. “C’mon. Let’s go home, Fei Du.”

The walk outside into the nipping, cold January air is quiet, but feeling bold and having the cover of darkness on their sides (save for a few street lamps and neon signs lighting the way), Luo Wenzhou reaches for Fei Du’s hand and subtly holds onto his lithe fingers as they stroll down the pavement together towards Fei Du’s car that has been parked across the street from the station. Fei Du is surprised, to say the least, at his boyfriend’s sudden, intimate action because Luo Wenzhou is normally not one to participate in PDA with Fei Du especially so close to his work where anybody could see them, but perhaps, it’s because Luo Wenzhou has been in a good mood tonight that he doesn’t question it, wanting to selfishly extend this happiness of his for as long as he possibly can. They pass by a few intoxicated young adults coming from a bar on the opposite end of the sidewalk, and Fei Du, out of habit, wants to let go of Luo Wenzhou’s hand, suddenly overwhelmed by thoughts about what it could do to Luo Wenzhou’s reputation as Captain of the Police if he were seen holding hands together with a man, but Luo Wenzhou just grabs onto Fei Du’s hand even tighter, intertwining their fingers this time and stuffing them both into the large pocket of his winter coat to conceal them perfectly from prying eyes, and to his credit, the intoxicated young adults don’t even notice them until Luo Wenzhou casually reminds them to not drink and drive before they disappear into the night out of earshot. In the meantime, Luo Wenzhou idly makes conversation about how Fei Du’s day was at work, the weather, and what he’d like to eat for dinner when they get home because the number of takeout boxes in their trash can is getting a bit absurd as Fei Du’s car gets closer and closer to them. Fei Du knows they’re all just excuses (well, except for maybe the last one) for Luo Wenzhou to talk to him, but Fei Du humors him anyway, telling him in return about how dreadfully boring the meeting with one of the investors to his company went today, how he’s always preferred summers to winters too, and that he doesn’t want anything fattening because he fears he’s gained weight on his face due to all the junk food he’s been eating recently while Luo Wenzhou isn’t at home to prepare a healthy feast fit for a king for him.

“Ah, I forgot to mention this to you earlier.” Fei Du begins, enjoying the warmth of Luo Wenzhou’s hand in his and their mundane conversations as they stroll down the nearly vacant street. “Your mother keeps nagging me about when you’re coming home to visit her for the New Year.” Luo Wenzhou groans, recalling all the past New Year’s celebrations with his family where he spent a majority of the time in his hometown fielding questions about when he’s going to get married from the nosy, neighborhood aunties who want to set him up with their pretty, young daughters despite the numerous times he’s explained to them that it’s impossible for him to be their son-in-laws and taking care of his drunk relatives when the night is coming to a close. This year, however, it’s going to be absolute chaos when he arrives considering for many of them, it’ll be the first time they’re meeting Fei Du whom they’ve only heard about through Luo Wenzhou’s parents who have long accepted that their son is gay and won’t ever introduce a woman to them as his partner. “Don’t give me that, Wenzhou.” Fei Du continues his speech. “You’re lucky to have a mother who loves you that much.”

Although he doesn’t mean to, Luo Wenzhou can’t help but be reminded of Fei Du’s own mother’s treatment of him when he utters that last sentence so nonchalantly. “I know, but it’s not like she’s gonna keel over any time soon.” Luo Wenzhou scratches the back of his head. “She’ll survive without me by her side for a little while longer, trust me, babe.”

“She said you can bring Yiguo over as well. She wants to see the new cat too since she’s only ever seen her in the pictures I’ve sent her over WeChat.”

“I’m starting to think she cares more about you and our cats than her own biological son.”

Fei Du joins Luo Wenzhou in his laughter as the dark shape of his classy vehicle finally comes into view; he doesn’t want to let go of Luo Wenzhou’s hand yet, but he does, although his fingers linger if ever so slightly before finally pulling away from him completely to fetch his keys out of his own trench coat pocket.

“I’ll drive.” Fei Du unlocks the car with a beep, and slides in behind the wheel, checking his reflection in the rear view mirror. “You can sleep in the car until we get home.” He cocks his head towards the empty passenger’s seat on the other side of him, and Luo Wenzhou obediently follows his instructions, unwrapping his navy blue scarf that Fei Du had recently bought for him for Christmas because it matches the navy blue on his police uniform from around his neck as he enters the vehicle.

“Fei Du.”

“What?” Before Fei Du can even finish buckling his seatbelt, Luo Wenzhou leans over the driver’s seat and places a soft kiss to Fei Du’s lips.

Satisfied by seeing the look of shock on his boyfriend’s face, Luo Wenzhou closes his eyes and sinks back comfortably into the luxurious leather seat of Fei Du’s car. “I think I’ll take you up on that offer after all.” There’s a hint of smugness in the exaggerated yawn that Luo Wenzhou gives him that almost makes Fei Du want to clobber him upside the head at that very moment, but their fight will have to be postponed because the damn bastard really fell asleep seconds after saying that.

“You-”

A smile tugs on the corners of Fei Du’s lips as he thinks ‘Sleep well’ and starts the engine.

~ ~ ~

A broad, muscular back. The sound of fresh produce being prepared on the cutting board and knives sharpening in the kitchen. Luo Wenzhou flips the mixed vegetables in the sizzling wok, the sleeves of his thin, black shirt rolled up to his elbows revealing his toned forearms. It’s a familiar sight, one Fei Du’s felt quite empty without more than he’d like to admit this past week and a half, but nevertheless, Fei Du can’t help but feel entranced by it every time he sees it, wanting to hug him from behind and press his ear against his back to listen to the sound of his steady heartbeat thumping away on the other side like a drum. Their cats, meanwhile, happily munch away at their wet food, seemingly unbothered by the change in atmosphere in the Luo household, or rather, the return of the old one that has been absent while the main master of the house, Luo Wenzhou, has been working overtime lately.

“I’ll have to go grocery shopping this weekend after work.” Luo Wenzhou groans, placing the main course on the dining table once he turns off the blue-orange flame on the stove. “It’s not much, but it’ll do for now.”

“Just leave it to me, Wenzhou. You said it yourself earlier, you’re busy.”

“No, the last time I trusted you to go out grocery shopping by yourself with a list that I made, you put a bunch of unnecessary things into the cart without my knowledge and bought them which is how we ended up with a case of wine hidden in the closet and your stockpile of candy in the fridge when I only sent you out to purchase more cat food and one bottle of oolong tea because I was craving it, remember? We’ll do it together.” He places the last of the side dishes on the dining table and sits down across from Fei Du who had set the table while Luo Wenzhou’s hands were occupied with cooking utensils.

Together, Fei Du feels giddy just thinking about the opportunity arising in the near future. It’s such a mundane feeling, being excited about going grocery shopping of all things with Luo Wenzhou, but it’s that casual promise that Luo Wenzhou probably mentioned offhandedly that makes him unbelievably happy anyway. Together, he repeats the word one more time, as if to make sure of what he heard. Perhaps, this is what they mean when they say this is what true love feels like?

Fei Du, however, isn’t given much time to mull over the thought swirling around in his head right now because Luo Wenzhou, of course, doesn’t let the small hint of a smile on Fei Du’s face go unnoticed. “The food’s going to get cold. What’re you smiling at, Fei Du?”

“Nothing, I was just…” Fei Du picks up a bowl of soup from the table. “thinking this looks delicious, that’s all…”

Luo Wenzhou shakes his head as he picks up his chopsticks and starts what feels like his first actual meal of the day with a bowl of steaming, hot rice. “You’re a terrible liar, Fei Du, you know that, right?”

~ ~ ~

“Hey,” Fei Du crawls onto the bed, shoulder-length hair still dripping wet from the bath he just took. He snatches a beige colored folder from Luo Wenzhou’s hands and briefly flips through the paper-clipped pages inside of it before continuing, “I leave you alone for 15 minutes, and you’re already reading over the case file in bed. Tsk, tsk, Captain, I’m going to have to punish you for such disobedience.” Fei Du lightly pushes Luo Wenzhou’s back against the bed’s headboard. He straddles his lover’s hips, and it’s only then that Luo Wenzhou notices he’s only wearing a black pair of boxer briefs that hug the curves of his slender thighs perfectly and a shirt that’s way too big for him that Luo Wenzhou recognizes as one of his own that he must’ve stolen from him on laundry day and never given back to him.

Fei Du pecks his lips which have unknowingly curled up into a smile. He planned this from the very start, this little shit, Luo Wenzhou huffs because what man could ignore such a sexy sight in front of him? He couldn’t, and Fei Du knew this. The little shit knew this all too well.

Ignoring the obvious bait laid in front of him by his boyfriend with much vigor clearly packed behind it, Luo Wenzhou begins his side of the foreplay said boyfriend has chosen for the night with an apology, “Sorry,” He kisses Fei Du’s forehead, removing the case file from his hands and placing it on his nightstand. “Sorry.” He kisses Fei Du’s left eyelid. “Sorry.” He kisses Fei Du’s lips once again, lingering on them more than the last time which Fei Du happily indulges him in. “What can I do to make it up to you?” Luo Wenzhou asks, pressing Fei Du’s body closer to him, holding him securely by his thin waist.

“Always eager to please me, aren’t you?” Fei Du’s tone isn’t angry; it’s quite the opposite, actually—playful, with a hint of wickedness intermingled in it. “Be a good boy then and just sit there.” There’s that teasing grin, Luo Wenzhou thinks as Fei Du wraps his arms loosely around his neck. With a coy smile, he grinds down on Luo Wenzhou’s lap, and Luo Wenzhou in response momentarily fakes bewilderment before encouraging his lover to continue, setting an infuriatingly slow pace between them for their standards.

“And then what, Fei Du?” Luo Wenzhou’s eyes briefly flicker towards Fei Du’s lips before locking on his gaze once again, feeling like he could get lost in those beautiful, dark brown eyes. Luo Wenzhou’s hand, meanwhile, slips from Fei Du’s waist to his leg, caressing one of Fei Du’s pale, soft thighs with knowing purpose about what’s to come next. “What will you do to me once you’ve got me in the palm of your hands, hm, baby?”

Fei Du laughs, and Luo Wenzhou can’t resist kissing his lover’s reverberating throat, lightly biting and sucking on the tender skin he hasn’t been able to mar with splotches of pink and red in nearly two weeks. “Focus on me and only me, just for a little while, or is that too hard for you, my busy, ever so handsome Captain~?” He cups Luo Wenzhou’s face and leans down to meet him halfway.

“No, gladly.” Luo Wenzhou seals their lips together, and soon, Fei Du is stripped bare until nothing but his true emotions lay plain on his face.

~ ~ ~

Fei Du always feels sleepy after sex with Luo Wenzhou, and this time is no exception; there’s a part of him, however, that doesn’t want to go to sleep though, not after finally, finally captivating Luo Wenzhou into his grasp, because going to sleep means that this day is over and that the next could be just as lonely as before.

“I’ve missed you.” He exhales, absentmindedly drawing circles onto Luo Wenzhou’s warm chest with his fingertip. It’s a sentence that Fei Du still finds difficult to piece together despite Luo Wenzhou’s best efforts to placate his doubts, to uplift his self-worth. He’s more than Fei Du could’ve ever asked for in a man, more than he deserves, honestly, and that’s why it scares him to think about losing him someday. Still, he loves him, can’t imagine his life without him, doesn’t want to be apart from him for even a second, and most importantly, wants to be with him for the rest of his life until they’re old and gray and perhaps then, the rings they wear on their left hands will have become ‘real’ in the eyes of society.

It’s a moment before Fei Du hears Luo Wenzhou’s low, quiet chuckle. “I’ve missed you too, baby.” Luo Wenzhou places a soft kiss to the top of Fei Du’s head, hand gently cradling the back of his neck as if he were something precious to him, something akin to a newborn child and its mother he supposes.

He’s warm, Fei Du’s long legs loosely entangle with Luo Wenzhou’s similarly long legs beneath the large comforter he and Luo Wenzhou picked out together at the beginning of autumn at their local department store for what the latter called “a good price”. So so so so warm, the heat created by his and his boyfriend’s naked bodies huddled underneath said comforter now nearly lulls him to sleep.

“Fei Du,” Luo Wenzhou nuzzles Fei Du’s ear with the tip of his nose.

“Hm?” is the only intelligible sound Fei Du is able to make in response to that.

“Go to sleep, baby, if you’re tired.” His voice is still somewhat gruff from their earlier escapades making Fei Du’s heart flutter upon hearing the remnants of it spoken so sweetly next to his ear. “I’ll still be here when you wake up in the morning.” Luo Wenzhou places another kiss to Fei Du’s face, this time to one of his eyelids which are struggling to stay open for another second.

“Nnn.” Fei Du shakes his head, shifts onto his side, and snuggles closer into Luo Wenzhou’s chest.

Cute, Luo Wenzhou begins running his fingers through his boyfriend’s long hair, the scent of the expensive shampoo Fei Du insisted on having if they were to move in together making him feel like it was worth the credit card bill he received in the mail a few weeks later due to how silky the freshly blow-dried strands are between his fingers. “The case should be wrapping up soon.” Luo Wenzhou says matter-of-factly, reaching over to turn off the dim glow of his bedside lamp for the night without ever letting go of Fei Du in his arms. “The victim I spoke with earlier today might’ve led to our first major breakthrough within the case, so you won’t have to wait much longer for me, baby, I promise.”

“I don’t care how long it takes.” Fei Du murmurs, breath hot against Luo Wenzhou’s skin, before looking up to return his lover’s soft gaze. “As long as I have you by my side at the end of the night, then I’m satisfied.”

“You-” Fei Du relishes in every second of having won over Luo Wenzhou in the romantic department for once in their relationship. “You really know how to charm a man, don’t you?” Still, that doesn’t prevent the wide smile from spreading across Luo Wenzhou’s face when Fei Du’s words finally settle deep into his heart, not to be forgotten any time soon, if ever, that is.

To Luo Wenzhou’s amazement, the usual snarky reply from Fei Du never comes and is instead replaced with the sound of Fei Du’s laughter muffled against his chest. Luo Wenzhou opens his mouth to speak when the sound of a big, fat pair of cat paws scratching at the wood of their closed bedroom door interrupts him; unsurprisingly, the sound is then followed by a disgruntled meow when it receives no answer from the two humans inside.

“Are you gonna let him in?” It isn’t a question, but rather, a statement made by Fei Du. The question is just an excuse for him to not outright say ‘I just want to be alone with you right now’. Luo Wenzhou doesn’t particularly mind this side of Fei Du, however. This side of his boyfriend is endearing, in its own way.

Luo Wenzhou’s thoughts trail off as the scratching continues to grate his ears, but one look into Fei Du’s beautiful but sleepy, dark brown eyes is all it takes for him to decide that it can wait; Luo Yiguo will still like him in the morning when he feeds him his breakfast from the tin, but he doesn’t know when the next time he’ll be able to hold Fei Du like this in his arms will be with his schedule at the moment, so he forgoes that thought and holds onto him as if his life depends on it.

“He’ll give up…” Luo Yiguo meows again, louder this time, as if to remind the two lovebirds cuddled up in bed right now who’s the real master of this house. “eventually…”

Fei Du smiles before his eyes finally succumb to their exhaustion. I’m never letting go of this man, Fei Du hugs Luo Wenzhou tightly to sleep that night, and his hug is just as tightly returned by Luo Wenzhou.
