Summary
Link.
That is the name Princess Zelda called him when he woke to a world of black and blue. It is the name he claimed for himself, answered to, and said to the eight individuals who share the same name.
Link is what he is known for. The name of the person whose soul this body truly belongs to.
Link is not this artificial soul’s name. Link is not him. The Hero Link of this Hyrule died one hundred years ago.

“No.” The Rancher shook his head. “They got away. Climbed the mountain.”Legend, who was still catching his breath, did a double-take. The side that he assumed that Twilight and Hyrule’s mystery person scaled was steep, which no doubt spelled imminent doom if one made a wrong move. “I’m sorry. Did you just say they climbed that freaking mountain?”
“As ridiculous as it sounds…yes.”
“Oh, goddesses above!”

“Do not forget, Hero of Twilight. Do not forget what you have lost through time and space. When the promised day arrives, he will need you again. So, you must not forget…and save him.”
-
Link remembered kneeling before her statue on both legs, pleading for what other purpose she planned for his continued existence. Her divine presence shrouded him like a delicate veil, and her voice reached his ears like the soft flutter of a summerwing butterfly wings.“Link…beseech my words. Eight heroes have descended upon these lands. Take up your sword and join their quest. Do not fear, hero of Hyrule. All shall be revealed to you in due time. Go, and bring peace to all Hyrules.”
And that was that - no follow-ups or even clarification.
-
“Do not fear, hero of Hyrule.”The Goddess’ words seemed so far away and ironic. He was running like the coward and madman he was, and she dared call him a hero? FUCKING HELL!

he wondered why he had not teleported yet. He could have even summoned the Master Cycle Zero yet had not done so. Funny what panic could do to the rational mind. That was if he was still rational at this point…which he probably was not.
