A Heart Worth Loving

Summary:

Fate has it out for Clint Barton.

After a few too many heartbreaks, he's given up looking for his Soulmate; who needs happily ever after anyway? He’s perfectly content with his dog, his job, guarding eccentric billionaires, and drinking Natasha’s contraband vodka. Just ask anyone.

So he doesn’t think anything about inviting a random sex worker home for coffee to get him out of the cold - no need for any special company, thanks - because that’s just the decent thing to do. But when he keeps meeting Bucky again and again, it’s not fate he’s gotta worry about, it’s his heart.

 

Bucky’s just living his life. He’s got work he doesn’t hate, a degree program he loves, and and a side project out to prove Green Arrow's archery antics aren't possible outside the comics. He’ll meet his Soulmate when the time is right, but for now he’s content to wait.

But then his roommate pulls a Breaking Bad, leaving him caught up in an NYPD investigation, out of his regular work, and scrambling for a place to stay where his demon-cat won’t get them both evicted. Before he knows it, Clint is turning his whole life turned upside down, and Bucky thinks fate shouldn’t be tempting him.

Notes:

This fic is mostly silly fluff, with classic misunderstanding, and a slow growth relationship type deal. I've tagged as best I can for everything I think you might be looking for or avoiding. Bucky is a sex worker in this fic. It's not graphically detailed, but it's also not avoided, and at two points he does describe himself as a hooker. If I've missed anything else you think should be tagged, please reach out and let me know. But overall this is a feel good fic with a happy ending and I hope you enjoy it!

Also, each chapter is titled after a song lyric, because I am who I am.

ETA 11/7/2021: Following a couple of questions I have received, I just want to clarify the Jewish representation found in this fic. I am not Jewish, but I did do my best to be sensitive, kind, and respectful of an identity that is not my own. I asked for sensitivity reading and tried to check with members of that community re: my narrative choices and characterizations as much as I was able. It is not a perfect representation by any means. In this story, Bucky is a traumatized, post-war Vet who is choosing to do sex work to support himself, and in that context, I imagine him as a person who is more culturally Jewish than religious. My intent was to demonstrate his care and love for Clint through a cultural lens, and as such I don't explore his relationship with Judaism very closely. I also don't necessarily feel qualified to do that . If I have made narrative choices that are grossly offensive, please do reach out to me and I will do my best to correct or clarify any mistakes that I have made.
