Chapter Text
After their conversations the previous night they had both agreed that they would start planning the wedding they didn’t want the fuss of an engagement party or a big white wedding and both agreed that they only wanted a very small intimate celebration. Jim had joked that aside of Buck he only had 20 squad to invite anyway so it would only really be Chris’ family there. Although Chris did have a large extended family, she had never envisaged walking down the aisle of a church or even wearing the big white dress it just wasn’t her style. She even joked about getting married in jeans and trainers however this was less of a joke and more of a testing the water situation. She had gathered from Jim’s response that he would love to see her in some sort of wedding ‘attire’ as he phrased it. What that exactly looked like Chris would have to see.
Their first job was to tell everyone they were engaged, with Chris not on SWAT anymore no one had the opportunity to question the ring or guess! Chris had sworn Annie to secrecy as really, they should have told Chris’ family first. But like Jim said 20 squad are just as much of family as Aunt Helena and Uncle Sarzo. Having spoken to Annie she came up with the idea of inviting everyone over to their house as it had the biggest outdoor space, and that way Chris and Jim can announce it to everyone all at the same time.
So that following weekend when everyone was off shift, everyone including Chris’ family were invited to a BBQ at Deacon and Annie’s no one had suspected a thing. As Chris, Jim and Gabi arrived they were immediate welcomed by everyone, and Gabi was quickly taken by Nichelle and Hondo. “Chris, you look so well, motherhood really suits you” Bonnie spoke while pulling Chris closer for a hug.
Deacon stood back and waited for everyone to retreat he walked over to Chris and embraced her. “ I feel like I haven’t seen you in ages, I really miss you on 20 squad Chris. Its just not the same without you.”
“I’m sure your fine without me I hear Cabrera is doing well?” Chris exclaimed trying to hide the emotion in her voice. She hadn’t let on to anyone just how much she was missing being on the team. She loved motherhood and loved the safe house. But Aunt Helena had been helping out at the safehouse while she had been off, and the girls had responded really well to her, and it was something that Aunt Helena had also really enjoyed too. Chris was beginning to wonder whether this was a full-time role for her at all and how easily it could be managed by a team of volunteers. Chris pushed this thought to the back of her mind for now, they were here to share their secret with everyone.
Jim walked over to Chris as she was stood talking to Deacon “sorry to interrupt but please may I steal Chris away?” Deacon laughed “of course you can!”
Chris looked nervous and Jim was concerned, “second thoughts?” he asked.
“Hell no, just a lot on my mind” Chris replied. Jim frowned “talk to me Chris, what’s bothering you?”
“Nothing important don’t worry we can talk about it later.” With that she threw her arms round his neck and hugged him tightly. Jim wasn’t fooled he knew her body language too well now, but he also knew to trust her, and know that she will talk when she is ready. He breathed in her scent which made his hairs stand on end. She looked stunning, she had a white pair of jeans on and a fitted black top with the back cut out. She had already got back into her pre-pregnancy clothes something that Chris was really pleased about, but Jim wasn’t bothered he found her just as beautiful pregnant as not! She had also grown her hair it was slightly longer and it really suited her, she really did look well. From the other side of the room, they could hear Gabi’s chuckle ‘Uncle Luca’ was on form. They walked over and watched at how relaxed Gabi was with all of 20 squad she really was a happy sociable baby. In that moment the doorbell rang, and Aunt Helena and Uncle Sarzo and the rest of the clan had arrived. After exchanging hello’s everyone started eating.
Jim stood up as everyone was sat round chatting “can I have your attention for a minute guys” he asked loudly.
Everyone turned to face him looking puzzled “I’d like to thank Annie and Deacon for inviting us round today but we as in me and Chris had an ulterior motive for getting you all together.” There was silence, even Gabi was staring at her daddy. Street continued “Just after Gabi was born, I asked Chris to marry me and thankfully she accepted.” Everyone erupted into cheers and jumped up to hug them both. Gabi reached her arms out for her mama and Aunt Helena passed her over. The 3 of them stood together hugging.
Annie was stood at the back and put her arm around Deacon’s waist “do you know who they remind me off?” she spoke quietly.
“Us?” Deacon replied. Annie nodded and smiled at how content the 3 of them looked together.
“So, what are the wedding plans?” Luca asked.
“Erm, we don’t have any, we were kind of hoping that you would all be able to help us out” Jim exclaimed. He was met with a chorus of replies. Chris and Jim chuckled their plan had worked perfectly.
Their issue was their time together was so important now especially with the length of Jim’s shifts that there never seemed to be the time to be able to plan things. Chris wasn’t the most organised of people anyway but with a baby she was even worse.
“We know we want a really small intimate wedding, not in a church. I want to get married on the beach and Jim agrees.” that was meet with series of chuckles "You mean Street is just going along with anything you say? " Tan shouted. "Jim knows what good for him" Chris added.
With that Annie walked over to them both with a pen and paper in her hand and started writing down all the ideas that everyone had come up with. By the end of the evening, they pretty much had the whole thing planned and Annie was going to do some ringing round tomorrow.
Aunt Helena couldn’t contain her excitement her little Chrissy was getting married, Chris was like the daughter she had always wanted. She was so unbelievably proud of the woman she had become. After all that had happened to her in her early life, things could have easily been so different for her. She walked over to Chris and hugged her tightly with tears in her eyes. No words needed to be said by either of them, both understood what each other was thinking. Chris just hoped one day she could repay them back for their kindness and love that they had showed her.
