“Did you even love my mother?”
Trevor’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts. The boy was standing in front of him, but not so close that Gabriel might try and touch him.
He raked his nails against the throne’s armrests instead. “Does it matter now?”
“I’m just wondering if you were capable of love back then.”
Gabriel opened his mouth to say that of course he’d loved Marie, but found the word was now meaningless, as if someone had stolen the very idea of love from him and left him with nothing but a useless shell of a word.
