Work Text:
Pete watched Macau and Vegas hug in front of the Suv as the bodyguards loaded the car with Macau’s luggage.
Pete didn't know what to feel. Macau was leaving them to go to college abroad. He was happy for the young man to get out of Bangkok and the mafia life, but he felt grief that shouldn't be associated with simply saying goodbye to his boyfriend's younger brother.
Pete thought maybe it was because he finally felt he had a family. A place to belong. He glued himself to this family. So maybe, Macau was just leaving with a piece of Pete.
Macau and Vegas walked up to Pete after they said their goodbyes. Macau looked into Pete's eyes and glanced at his brother, "Can I say goodbye to Pete alone, hia?"
Vegas’s eyebrow quirked up and he glanced at the two before he nodded. He ruffled Macau’s hair and gave a kiss to the side of Pete’s head and went back into the house.
They were alone. Pete ignored the quickening of his heartbeat that seemed always to happen when he was around Macau. Macau’s eyes shifted from his shoes to Pete's chest as if he could hear Pete’s heartbeat and then to his eyes.
Pete fumbled as he suddenly had an armful of Macau. Macau’s arms were wrapped around him tightly, their chests pushed together, and Macau’s chin resting on Pete's shoulder. Pete should feel uncomfortable, but he didn't. This was strangely the most content he felt all day. He wished he could keep this boy in his arms forever.
Macau spoke up. His voice was soft but sounded so loud next to Pete’s ear. The words were ingrained into Pete as an ex-bodyguard and a boyfriend. "Take care of hia for me. You're the best thing that's ever happened to him."
Pete couldn't stop the words from escaping him, "You're the best thing that's happened to him. But I will. I would do anything for your brother." His following words were softer, almost a whisper, "I'd do anything for you as well."
Pete felt a bit of sorrow wash away as he heard the noise of Macau giggling into his ear. Macau pulled away and looked into Pete’s eyes.
They were so close. Their noses were touching. Soon they wouldn't be. Macau will be out of this city, out of this country. Pete knew he would see Macau again knowing him, he would FaceTime them within the day from boredom. But still, some part of Pete just thought he would never see his beautiful boy again.
Something must have shown in Pete's eyes. He felt one of Macau’s hands grip the back of his neck, and quickly a pair of lips touch his. He felt more than heard, "I'll miss you too, phi."
Before Pete could reply, Macau pulled out of his arms and ran to the Suv. Pete felt cold without Macau in his arms. The boy sucked all the warmth out of him it seemed.
When the car disappeared in the distance, Macau couldn't see how he left Pete's chest heaving with tears streaming down his face.
