Summary
Contrary to popular belief, Izzy's world didn't begin to crumble with the arrival of Stede Bonnet. No, it began to crumble three months earlier, when news of the Whydah's sinking and Sam Bellamy's death reached the Republic. Driven by grief and desperation, Izzy lives through the events of seasons 1 and 2 feeling like the deck has vanished from underneath him, leaving him drowning as Ed leaves him behind to suffer Sam’s loss alone.
When Izzy dies, cradled in Ed’s arms, he expects to be reunited with Sam in the watery afterlife that takes all those who are buried at sea.
So why can’t he find him? Why does it feel like he’s surrounded by dirt instead of seawater? Where is his leg? Where is his ring?This isn't quite a fix-it (Izzy still dies), but Izzy is deserving of love and he finally gets what he deserves in this one. Even if he has to go through some (a lot of) angst to get it.
