Chapter Text
1. The unknown girl
Tokyo never sleeps. A city of endless lights, towering skyscrapers, and restless souls. But beneath the neon glow and the hum of life, something unseen lingers in the shadows.
Dark spirits—curses—born from humanity's deepest fears and hatred, prowl unseen, feeding off negativity. To combat these creatures, there exist those who wield supernatural power—jujutsu sorcerers, warriors who harness Cursed Energy to maintain the fragile balance between the living and the damned.
Amidst this unseen battle, Yuji Itadori walked through a grocery store, unaware that his life was bound to forces far beyond his understanding. His steps were casual, his expression light—just another evening, just another errand. Yet, within him, a presence stirred. A presence with eyes that had seen centuries pass, a voice that echoed through the blood-soaked pages of history.
The King of Curses was watching. And soon, no one knew that the past would awaken once more...
"Um, excuse me? " A soft voice he heard. Yuji turned back to see the person who spoke to him. A girl no- a woman, with dark-blue hair like the night framing her face, and the big blue eyes like the sky. She was slightly shorter than him, but not by much, her posture slightly awkward like she wasn't used to approaching strangers.
"Are you... Itadori Yuji?" she asked, her voice light, almost careful.
Yuji blinked. "Uh, yeah. That's me."
He stared at her for a second and wondered in his mind- Do he know her? Then thought that no, he doesn't. He asked "Can I help you with something?" out of courtesy, maybe she is just a passerby who needs some help. She didn't answer right away. Instead, she just... looked at him. As if hesitating.
Her fingers lightly fidgeted at the hem of her sleeves. Her lips parted, then closed—like she wasn't sure if she should say it. Yuji tilted his head, confused.
Then, barely above a whisper—
"Sukuna..."
Yuji's eyes widened.
Sukuna.
Ryomen Sukuna..
The name alone made his breath hitch. The King of Curses, the monster inside him.
But—how did she know?
How does this person know his name?
In this world, only jujutsu sorcerers and curses know his name, are aware of him. So how..
His expression hardened instantly.
Yuji stiffened, his muscles tensing as if preparing to fight. "How do you know that name?" His tone wasn't friendly anymore.
Yuji looked at that girl, she didn't look anything like a.. like a THREAT!
The woman—Mirai, as he would later learn—flinched slightly at his harsh tone. She seemed a little startled, like she didn’t expect his reaction to be so defensive.
Yuji narrowed his eyes. Only sorcerers and curses should know about Sukuna.
But this girl… she wasn’t a sorcerer.
And she didn’t feel like a curse.
Yet—
"Can I…" She hesitated, her voice soft, almost unsure. Then, with a small smile, she continued,
"Can I meet Sukuna?"
Yuji’s entire body tensed.
"What?"
Nobody asked to meet Sukuna. That was like asking to die.
Yuji immediately took a defensive stance. His fists clenched. "Who the hell are you?"
She blinked, slightly startled by his reaction. Then, almost hesitantly—
"My… my name is Mirai," she said.
Yuji studied her face. She looked nervous.
Was she scared of him? No, probably Sukuna.
She should be.
He glared at her. "What do you want with Sukuna? How do you even know where to find me?"
"I… I just want to meet him," she said, her voice quiet, almost timid.
Yuji didn’t drop his stance. This could be a trap. This girl who looks innocent, she could be a high level cursed spirit who maybe knows how to hide the cursed energy.
But before he could press further—
A sharp pain pierced through his skull. His body froze.
A smirk curled onto his lips.
Except—it wasn’t his smirk.
Dark marks crawled across his skin.
And just like that—
Sukuna was in control.
The curse king’s crimson eyes lazily trailed over Mirai.
Then—
"Tch. What is this?" His voice dripped with boredom.
His piercing gaze examined her—once, then twice.
Just some human girl.
"You're the one who called for me?" Sukuna scoffed. "How dull."
Mirai froze in place.
Chapter 2: Sukuna’s amusement
Chapter Text
2. Sukuna’s amusement
Sukuna has now taken over the control. It's him here.
Looking lazily at this woman— Mirai. She barely held his interest.
"Tch. What is this?" His voice dripped with boredom.
His piercing gaze examined her—once, then again.
Just some human girl.
Sukuna scoffed, clearly unimpressed. "How dull."
Mirai froze.
He raised his arm slightly— ready to unleash cursed energy and swat the annoying pest..
But then, his eyes twitched barely as he looked at her.
He expected her to be trembling with fear like the rest of the weak mortals who spoke his name. Maybe cowering. Maybe glaring with hatred.
Instead—
There was a strange light in her eyes. She was… blushing?
A smirk formed on his face.— What?
A human, standing before the King of Curses, with that kind of reaction?
Now that was new.
He lowered his hand and looked— this woman seemed.. excited to see him.
He chuckled low— dark.
Pathetic.
"Are you… Ryomen Sukuna?" she asked, there was no flinch in her tone. Rather, just a confirming as if she was a postman looking for the right address.
He leaned down, lips curling in mockery. "And who gave you permission to speak, girl?"
"I am Mirai," she whispered, stepping back slightly—but her blush only deepened.
Sukuna laughed. A dry, cruel sound.
"Cute name. Shame about the creature wearing it."
She nearly stumbled.
Weak.
Entertaining.
"How did you… switch with Itadori Yuji, sir?" she met his gaze.
He blinked.
Sir?
"Polite, are we?"
He strode toward her without warning. His hand snapped up, grabbing her chin.
"You think this is a conversation?" he hissed.
Her eyes widened, but she didn’t pull away.
That was new.
"I—I was just curious!"
He barked out a laugh.
"Curiosity? That's what you’re calling this stupidity?"
Her trembling was gone. Her face was neutral now.
Just blinking at him.
Strange.
Amusing—but more annoying.
“For a moment, Sukuna almost killed her right then and there—
But instead, he grinned.
Darkly.
He was about to say something but before he could — she spoke.
"So you can switch with him whenever you want? Are you bored?" Mirai asked.
Her questions only dared to annoy the King. — his nails never leaving her cheeks.
He was enjoying this.
Humans screamed, begged, cried in his presence. Even strong sorcerers tensed when he appeared.
But this one?
She looked at him with fascination.
…Ridiculous.
"And what’s it to you, little insect? Planning to entertain me?"
"Then... if you're bored," she said carefully, "why don’t we watch a movie?"
Silence.
And then—
His fingers left the grip from her cheeks.
He laughed.
Mocking. Sharp.
"A movie?"
Did this girl think he was some bored nobleman looking for entertainment?
Mirai flinched slightly but didn’t take back her words.
Interesting.
He leaned down, voice low and dangerous.
His breath was warm against her ear—
"And what makes you think I'd waste my time with something so… foolish?"
She should be scared now,
Trembling.
Begging.
Sukuna pulled back to look.. at her,
He braced for the usual terror.
But she didn’t tremble.
Didn’t flinch.
Only stared.
Her lips didn't quiver.
Her breath didn't hitch.
She flinched—slightly.
Then met his gaze. Calm. Unwavering.
"What?" she made a low disappointed sound.
Sukuna's grin faltered—just for a second.
And then grew wider.
This little human—this fragile mortal—
Was she… not afraid?
"Then," she asked, tilting her head, "do you have other plans, sir?"
There it was again.
Sir.
He stepped closer again, eyes glinting with malice.
"How long do you plan to keep pretending you’re not terrified?"
This is… pathetic.
Sukuna’s smirk slowly grew sharper this time.
How interesting.
So she wanted to play pretend?
His lips curled cruelly.
His gaze dark with anticipation.
He couldn’t wait— to see this girl break.
To hear her scream.
To watch her beg for her life.
She was human.
Mortal.
And yet, she dared to look him in the eye.
Speak without trembling.
Mock him with politeness.
Disgusting.
He would crush her act soon.

Sukuna tilted his head, watching her with something between disdain and amusement.
"You really don't fear me, huh?" he muttered, his lips curling. "Or are you just pretending, little human?"
Mirai didn't answer immediately. She simply blinked, her expression calm, unreadable.
Sukuna clicked his tongue. "Tch. Annoying."
Faster than she could react, his clawed hand shot out, gripping her throat—not too tight, but enough to send a message.
Mirai's eyes widened slightly, but—
She still didn't panic.
Instead, her fingers hesitated before reaching up—not to pry him off, but to lightly touch his wrist.
"Are you done testing me?" she asked softly.
Sukuna's smirk froze.
For the first time, his amusement wavered—just slightly.
What the hell is with this woman?
A slow chuckle rumbled from his chest. Then, with a flick of his wrist, he let her go.
"Fine. Let's see how far you'll go before you start shaking."
His grin widened, wicked. "Where's this 'movie' you're so desperate to watch, little mortal?"
His tone? Utterly dangerous.
Soon they entered a private theatre in a eerily place that had not many people. A place where there are no pathetic humans to deal with.
A VIP private lounge in a luxurious building.
The atmosphere is dark, moody, and luxurious—black leather couch, dim golden lighting, expensive wine on the side.
The screen is massive, almost like a personal IMAX theater.
But on the first step in, something felt odd.
Was Mirai right to enter this place? It looks too dreamy
Or
Maybe, like a nightmare....
Sukuna dropped onto the couch like the king, spreading out comfortably. His grin was sharp, dangerous.
Then, he patted the empty space beside him.
A silent invitation.
Or maybe, a trap.
A chill ran down Mirai's spine.
Did she just walk into something she shouldn't have?
She wasn't sure. Her expression stayed unreadable.
But then—
She smiled.
Soft. Gentle. Almost mocking.
And then—
She sat beside him.
The movie was being played on the screen but neither of them, not Sukuna nor Mirai were in it.
Mirai every now and then, stole glances at Sukuna. Her cheeks turned pink with excitement.
And Sukuna?
He had no interest in such dumb human things like movie but what was catching his eyes, amusing him, was this girl.
This ridiculous, unafraid little mortal— was amusing.
She kept stealing glances at him, blushing as if she could actually develop feelings for a curse.
Disgusting.
Yet...
Interesting.
Sukuna chuckled, a low, dangerous sound.
"Say, sweetheart. This movie is boring, isn't it?" he spoke in a way to mock her.
"S-Sweetheart!?" She turned to him, her face was truly red.
Sukuna smirked, delighted.
Ah, now this was a reaction worth playing with.
What is with this reaction? Sukuna thought of teasing her more, his eyes gleamed, eager to play with this new toy.
"Yea, you got a problem, sweetheart?~" He leaned closer.
"S-Stop calling me that, sir!" she shot back, but her voice was barely above a whisper, her embarrassment overpowering her confidence.
How cute.
Sukuna's smirk widened.
"Don't wanna be called 'sweetheart'? Then how about princess?" He said as he leaned more closer.
"J- Just.. just call me Mirai! "
She backed away slightly, her breath unsteady.
Sukuna's grin sharpened.
So, she is weak, after all.
Pathetic.
Like all humans.
In one swift motion, Sukuna grabbed her wrist—pulling her close.
Too close.
Their faces—mere inches apart.
His sharp, inhuman eyes burned into hers.
This girl. This ridiculous, fearless little mortal.
She acted like she was something special.
But in the end—
She was just a weak, fragile human, wasn't she?
Sukuna's hunger grew.
Not for food. Not for blood.
For more reactions. More fear.
He wanted to watch her tremble. Break. Beg for mercy.
And in that moment, Sukuna knew—
She had just dug her own grave the moment she asked to meet him.
The King of Curses.

Chapter 4: Not your toy
Chapter Text
The space between them was nonexistent.
Mirai could feel it... His hot breath against her skin. The distance between them had been erased in an instant, leaving no room for escape. His fingers, firm around her wrist, were neither harsh nor gentle—just possessive, as if testing how easily he could break her.
The once felt surreal luxurious private theater, now felt like a trap.
A trap that she herself willingly walked into.
The movie continued to play, was mere a noise in the background now.
Instead, the real game was unfolding between them.
Sukuna had been watching her—testing her. Playing with her.
And Mirai?
She had yet to break.
But how much longer could she last?
His voice, low and mocking, broke through the quiet.
"What's wrong, princess? Nervous?"
Mirai flinched.
Sukuna..
His smile that is finding amusement,
his touch— casual yet possessive.
His power.. it was overwhelming— crushing, suffocating.
Once smiling, confident girl was now no longer smiling. Her blush from earlier was now fading.
After a brief silence, she spoke— her voice low unsteady and yet it wasn't broken.
"P-Please don't touch me. "
Sukuna's smirk deepened.
Ah. So this girl still is not ready to break?
It takes courage.
A more reason to break her.
He chuckled at her reaction. His grip firm yet playful as he pulled her closer, until his lips closer to her ear.
He whispered,
"Why not?~"
A shiver ran through her. Mirai clenched her fists, eyes squeezing shut.
"I... I... "
Her voice wavered, stuck between hesitation and fear.
Sukuna tilted his head, watching. Waiting.
And then—
"It's uncomfortable."
Her voice wasn't loud, but it carried weight.
A small, hesitant protest.
Sukuna's eyes flickered—just for a moment. Not quite shock, but something close.
No one had ever said that to him.
No toy of his has ever dared to complain.
None had the courage to even form such words.
She is different.
Mirai kept her eyes squeezed shut, shoulders tense.
She wasn't liking where this was going.
She wasn't enjoying this.
Not one bit.
And for the first time—Sukuna could feel it.
She wasn't playing along.
She wasn't treating this as a game.
She truly did not like it.
And that realization?
It made her all the more interesting.
Sukuna chuckled.
The slightly scared look on her face was what he was craving for.
He wanted more.
He slowly, in a playful yet possessive voice said as his fingers touched her soft lips.
"Oh? So me touching you is 'uncomfortable'?~ "
His other now moved to her waist, pulling her closer.
Keeping her close.
"Don't worry princess, I won't kill you. " He said in a low voice.
How could he possibly?
He wanted that confidence smug off her face.
Killing her easily won't be fun.
As the tension of the room increased, the film forgotten.
Suddenly, Mirai spoke.
Her words— not weak
But, something more.
"Stop. " her eyes no longer of the fear that Sukuna craved, but more build with confidence.
As if she has the right to speak.
How frustrating.
Sukuna kept his hold on her, an urge to kill her.
An urge to destroy her.
Why is this woman not scared?
His hand from her waist moved to her thigh.
"I said stop. " She said. Her those big innocent eyes now giving a glare. A command.
Tch. Now she is frustrating him.
"And what will you do if I don't stop? " He said, his eyes giving a death glare.
But she didn't flinch.
His smile slowly fading.
Just then, she raised her fist and— and struck.
Her knuckles collided with the side of his face, right at his jaw.
It wasn't a hard punch, but it was sharp, unexpected.
His head barely tilted, but the impact was there.
A deep, eerie silence filled the room.
Sukuna's smirk vanished.
His fingers twitched.
His amusement? Gone.
"Oh?" His voice was low, dangerous.
"You actually hit me?"
A mere human.
Powerless.
Not a sorcerer.
Nor a curse.
Dared to hit him.
Chapter 5: What is she?
Chapter Text
The room was silent.
The only sound to hear is the movie playing on the screen left forgotten in the background.
The atmosphere was suffocating.
Mirai didn't move, the glare still on her face.
The playful smile on Sukuna's face— gone.
She was at his mercy.
Yet, she dared to hit him.
Sukuna lifted his hand, his fingers slowly brushed the spot where the fist had struck.
No pain.
No mark.
No harm.
Yet,
Pure humiliation.
His eyes slowly dragged up to look at Mirai as if a deadly beast was deciding whether to toy with it's prey or rip it apart.
"No toy of mine is allowed to dare speak, you dared to lay a hand. " he murmured, his voice low.
His eyes— piercing as if slicing through a hundred corpses.
Mirai’s heart pounded, but she forced herself to stand.
To hold her ground.
Looking right into his eyes, her breath steady.
"Kill me if you want. " She said as her eyes were fearless. She didn't shake. "But I am not your toy. "
Tch. What the hell is with this woman?
A grin formed on his face.
In a flick of a second.
He moved.
Faster than she could have imagined.
Sukuna stood right in front of her.
One moment he was on the couch— seated.
The next?— he was right in front of her.
Just a few inches apart.
"Oh?~" His eyes gleamed with darkness.
"You speak as if you have a choice. "
She flinched.
Before she could think— Her instincts kicked in and she made her fist again.
And raised her hand to punch again—
But
This time, Sukuna wasn't going to play her game.
He hold her punch when she tried to struck a punch on his face again.
Smirking.
"Same trick won't work twice, princess. "
His one hand held her punch and the other touched her waist, pulling her closer.
And then—
Mirai barely had time to think—to react—
She lifted her knee and—
SLAM.
Sukuna let out a low grunt, his body stiffening.
For the first time since they met—his smirk actually twitched.
A deep, dangerous silence fell.
Mirai didn’t wait.
She turned.
She ran.
In the room nearby, where no one was.
Tap.
She was hiding...
Beneath a desk.
Tap.
Crouching, head touching her knees.
Trying to hold her breath to make no sound.
Tap.
A slow, measured footstep echoed through the dimly lit hall.
Tap.
Another.
And another.
A shiver ran down her spine. He was close.
Too close...
"I know you are here, princess. " he said, the smirk still on his face
But,
It wasn't playful.
It was cruel.
"Come out.~"
He said, yet she didn't come out.
It was silent for a brief second.
Tap.
He started walking towards her.
Tap.
The place where she was hiding.
Tap.
His steps— slow and dangerous.
Finally, he will see that look.
His grin widened.
The scared face he was hungry for.
He stood right next to the desk she was beneath.
He tilted with a grin, to see that look.
Sob.
A silent sob he heard.
His smirk that was supposed to grow wider— falter.
He was hungry for her to break.
Wanting her to fear.
Making sure she cries.
Yet,
When he heard that sob.. so low, so silent.
For the first time in thousands of years, he felt— wrong.
Why?...
He has killed more than he could remember, countless deaths, countless tears he has made people shed.
So why does this woman..
Why her tears..
It shouldn't matter.
The king of curses doesn't care.
"Hey. "
He said. His voice was possessive, but a slight guilt in his voice was forming.
What the hell is with this feeling?
Why does it feel.. wrong?
"Come out. "
Mirai looked up from the tears, her visions were blurry.
She again pulled her head down, crying— barely audible.
"I told you... I don't like it."
She sobbed.
"I told you it's uncomfortable... "
Her voice grew louder.
"But you.. you didn't stop, you kept touching me.. "
She cried more..
Her tears..
He wanted to see her break.. he had been waiting for it.
But why does it feel.. different?
Why.. does it feel like something inside him had cracked?
He tried to make her come out.
Slowly.
She crawled out.
She wasn't feared by him.
His actions had made her cry.
Chapter 6: Mysterious
Chapter Text
After crying, her cheeks were red from the tears that had streamed through her cheeks.
She inhaled.
Exhale.
And then—
She stood up.
Wiping away those tears in her eyes.
Smiling bright as once she did.
Bright.
Genuine.
Real.
His fingers twitched.
What the hell is wrong with this woman?
He slowly stood up, watching her.
She is.. interesting.
"You're smiling? " he said in a tone that was slightly irritated yet unreadable.
"Yeah! " She beamed.
Tch. This woman..
"I need to thank Itadori-san."
His eyes darkened— That brat..?
"Why?" he asked, though his tone barely hid his curiosity.
"Because, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have been able to meet you. " She smiled even more brightly.
Sukuna was taken aback.
This woman was thankful for.. that?
Something sharp, unfamiliar, and unwelcome twisted in Sukuna’s chest.
The King of Curses didn’t feel things.
Not like this.
And yet—
s
He couldn’t look away.
Just then,
Bzzz.
Yuji’s phone vibrated.
A call.
It was a call from the people in the Jujutsu Tech.
He hadn't yet come back from his little grocery shopping, no wonder.
Sukuna was going to ignore it.
But a sharp pang hit his head.
The damn brat was trying to get back control.
That little..
"Uh.. " Mirai blinked looking at Sukuna "Are you okay.. Sukuna-sama? "
Sukuna-sama?
That girl looked at Sukuna with no fear, just innocence..
She's odd.
He looked away and said,
"That brat is trying to take over."
She said "it's okay"
Then, softer, with a strange sadness in her smile—
"Thank you for meeting me, Sukuna-sama."
She spoke as if she had known him for years.
As if this moment had meant something.
Her face again was turning red.
Sukuna’s eyes flickered.
And so, the marks started to fade.
Yuji took over.
Blinking in confusion— where was he?
He turned, spotting Mirai. "Wait, you—"
"Itadori-san," she cut in.
Yuji straightened.
Mirai’s flushed face had returned to normal, her composure perfectly intact.
"Thank you." She smiled.
"For what?" Yuji frowned.
"I was able to meet Sukuna-sama because of you."
Yuji froze.
Sukuna… sama?
What kind of person calls him that with respect?
"I will... go home now!" she said quickly, giving him a polite wave before turning away.
Yuji watched her disappear into the night.
His heart pounded.
That girl knows Sukuna.
A non-sorcerer knows Sukuna’s name.
He should have stopped her.
He should have asked who she really was.
But she was gone.
His phone buzzed again.
He was getting late.
Still…
Yuji’s grip tightened around his phone.
Who was she?
And more importantly—
Would they ever meet again?
Chapter 7: Meeting again
Chapter Text
It's been a few days.
Itadori Yuji had been going on his missions as usual.
The mysterious girl— Mirai.
He never saw her again since that day...
The sun was shining bright.
People passed by, busy with their lives.
Yuji was just another person among them—until something caught his eye.
"Oh!"
A new game he had been waiting to buy!
He entered the store, excitement bubbling up.
His hand reached for the stack of the game to pick up.
Bump.
"Ah! Sorry!"
He quickly pulled his hand back.
"S-Sorry!"
A soft voice, unsteady.
Familiar...
Yuji looked up.
She looked up.
Their eyes met.
Mirai.
Yuji's jaw dropped.
"You- You are that crazy girl who went on a date with Sukuna!" Yuji shouted, pointing a finger on her.
He was so shocked.
A crazy girl.
"EEEEHH!!?!?!" Mirai's face turned pure red from embarrassment.
Her composed posture was forgotten.
"You— " She shut his mouth from her hand.
"Shhh " She hinted at him to be quiet as she glanced around.
On the mention of Sukuna, her cheeks had turned so red.
"We are in public. You can't talk about him... here!" She said with her face— slight irritation and embarrassment.
"Mm mmm!" Yuji struggled to speak with her hand on his mouth.
Inside Yuji—
The demon opened his eyes.
Tch. That woman again..
He said with slight irritation but tilted his head slightly— bored.
Yet, a flicker of him— Interested.
Yuji dragged Mirai outside to a quiet, empty ground.
She stumbled after him.
"What the—?! What are you doing?!"
He ignored her.
Stopping in his tracks, he turned, dead serious.
"Tell me. How do you know about Sukuna?"
He demanded.
She hesitatingly opened her mouth to speak—
"But first— " he inhaled "ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND TO GO ON A DATE WITH HIM!!"
He yelled.
Mirai blinked— what?
She wasn’t expecting this.
"He is the worst person to go on a date with!"
Yuji said.
"He could have KILLED you!"
A purple vein popped on her head.
"Will you... SHUT UP!" She started pulling his cheeks really hard.
"How can you say that about Sukuna-sama!?" She huffed.
"Owwowwooowowoowww" Yuji whined, his face stretching painfully.
They were fighting like some real small kids.
Inside Yuji—
Sukuna scoffed.
"Shameful."
Yuji's cheeks were dark red from the pulling.
This girl is really something else...
"Hmph." She looked away, pouting.
He started to pat his poor cheeks.
Did she really... defend Sukuna?
After a moment of silence.. the atmosphere shifted.
"How do you know him?" He asked.
His voice, firm, serious.
Demanding her an explanation.
Mirai turned to him, the playful pout vanished.
Her expression— unreadable yet deep.
Then.. with a moment of hesitation.
Her eyes had something..
Something deep.
Mirai slowly opened her mouth.
"I learned about him, in a book. "
Yuji blinked at her
"A book?"
Is this a joke?
No.
When he looked into her eyes, they were— honest.
She wasn't lying.
Yuji blinked at her, once and then twice.
"What book?"
Mirai looked down.
Holding the edge of her hoodie.
"I found a book in a library and.."
Yuji looked closely.
"..found about Ryomen Sukuna. "
This is weird, a book?
"And... ? "
"And I liked the way it described Ryomen Sukuna.. "
She looked more down.
Her cheeks turned red.
Embarrassed?
After a moment of Yuji processing what he just heard—
"You what!?" He shouted.
"You like him!? That evil- " There's no end to the hate Yuji was feeling.
She.. a normal person..
A Non-sorcerer..
likes... Sukuna??
"I.." she looked away "..found him ...cool."
Her cheeks turned more red.
Yuji stood still.
His mouth wide open in shock.
She- what?
He couldn't process what he was just.. hearing!
He was speechless.
Inside—
A grin came to Sukuna's face.
A smirk, in that dark.
"A book? Is that all it takes? For someone to like me?"
What a joke.
Chapter 8: Friendly
Chapter Text
Yuji's head was still spinning from what just Mirai said.
He just—
He can't even take it in his head.
Standing there, crossed arms.. spirals in his head.
"Itadori-san. "
Mirai spoke.
Her voice firm yet.. a hint of something else.
His eyes slowly looked at her.
"Please.. "
Her mouth spoke, hesitant.
No, a slight view of fear.
".. don't tell anyone about me! "
She pleaded.
"What!? " Yuji shouted.
She's suspicious, she knows— No, she met Sukuna. This—
" They will exorcise me! "
Yuji's stomach dropped.
Exorcise?
".. what do you mean?"
Yuji still asked.
Mirai didn't speak.
Her hands trembled slightly.
After a moment of silence..
"Sorcerers... "
She spoke.. her voice, barely audible.
Yuji's eyes widened.
"It's a rule— in Jujutsu High. " She blurted.
"No normal person.. should learn about curses.. "
She looked down.
"If they... found that- That I.. a normal person.. met Sukuna.. "
There was a tremble in her voice.
"They will.. see me as a threat. "
For the first time —
Mirai showed a real hint of fear in her eyes..
What is‐
Yuji clenched his fists.
A hint of anger —
She wasn't scared of that monster.
So why.. The Jujutsu High?
His mouth opened to speak —
"Oi, Yuji!"
A voice came from the back.
Yuji turned behind.
Nobara and Megumi.
They were entering this ground.
"We had been looking for you. "
Nobara said—
Her eyes noticed Mirai.
"Hm?"
Mirai flinched, it was barely noticeable.
"And who's this?" Nobara looked at Yuji.
Yuji looked at Mirai,
She was looking at him,
She wasn't smiling like her usual cheerful manner,
her lips were pressed, Yuji could see the fake mask of smiling.
Her hands were at the back— clenched in a fist.
His eyes again back to Nobara and Megumi.
This is it.
This is the time.
He should tell them.
That this girl— Mirai is suspicious.
That she knows Sukuna. That demon.
He should tell.
But —
When he looked at her..
Her eyes... that looked
Genuinely worried.
It was subtle, barely noticeable.
"She's..."
Mirai looked at him, her fists at the back still tight.
".. an old friend. "
Her eyes widened. She couldn't believe.
A smile curled her lips.
A genuine happy smile.
She looked ahead, at Nobara and Megumi.
"I’m Mirai. Nice to meet you!"
She said happily.
"Oh? " Nobara looked at Mirai.
Megumi as composed he is said,
"You never told us about her. "
Yuji with his usual friendly demeanour said
"We had lost contact. And just happened to bump into each other here. "
Friendly.
"Say Mirai. You wanna hang out with us? "
Nobara smirked.
"Sure! " Mirai said.
The four started to talk to each other.
Mirai blend in so well.
Too easily.
By the time they realized,
It was already evening.
Under the yellow shades of the sun.
Yuji, Nobara and Megumi had come the train station,
To say bye to Mirai.
"Bye bye!! " She waved at them.
Turned around.
Happier than you could believe she would be.
Disappeared— in the crowd of the station.
"Well, she wasn't bad. "
Bad?
Nobara smiled— satisfied.
As she started walking back towards the path of jujutsu tech.
Megumi was walking along.
They looked behind.
"Oi, Yuji! What's wrong? We need to go back. "
Nobara said in a carefree tone yet slightly annoyed.
Yuji..
.. had just realized..
How—
How did Mirai know—
That such a rule exist?
A rule that even he wasn't aware of.
Chapter 9: Looking through
Chapter Text
It was just another day in Jujutsu High.
Everyone— doing their training and so.
Thud.
Megumi fell on the floor.
He and Yuji were doing combat training.
"You have yet to be more strong, Megumi. " Gojo said with that usual playful smile.
As the teacher, he was directing Megumi and Yuji.
Though he did nothing really just laugh standing there.
Yuji sat on the floor.
Huffing.
It was a good training.
Yet, there was a question in his mind.
Ever since the day Mirai last was seen.
No one ever saw Mirai, it's been a month.
After a good training.
Yuji finally asked.
".. Gojo-sensei. " — huffing
Gojo looked at Yuji.
"Is there ... some rule about normal people should not know about curses?"
Yuji's voice was laced with a bit of seriousness though he didn't wish to.
"What do you mean?"
Gojo asked with the usual carefree tone.
"Uh— like to exorcise them if they learn about curses?"
Yuji said with a slight hesitation. He didn't know if this information was even correct.
Gojo just stared for a moment and then—
He laughed really hard.
"Exorcise? What are you even talking about?" He kept laughing.
And soon he calmed and in firm voice said
"There's no such rule. We can't just kill non-sorcerer for knowing a bit about curses. If we had such a rule then there would have been no civilians left than us. But.. "
Gojo looked up, turned around, his finger on his chin as he started to think.
The smile was still there.
He looked back at Yuji and Megumi and completed his sentence —
".. a civilian should not know more than the basics. "
His lips still stayed curled yet his voice deepened, serious.
" You should never tell anyone about that Sukuna inside you."
Yuji's eyes widened.
He didn't mean it, he never told Mirai—
About Sukuna.
Gojo came close to Yuji and asked in his usual friendly demeanour —
"You didn't tell anyone about Sukuna, did you?"
Gojo's voice was the usual yet.. there was a bit of something.
Yuji again returned to his usual tone and said "Of course! I didn't tell anyone. "
Yuji tried to hide the bubbling doubts in his mind.
What if Mirai is actually a threat?
Should he tell someone?
He tried to act to be his usual— all energetic.
But—
He couldn’t hide.. from Megumi.
Megumi stared at him, and saw through his facade. Yet, he said nothing.
Just watched Yuji.
In the mind,
already doubting.
Suspicious.
Yuji must is hiding something— he knew.
Chapter 10: Rule
Chapter Text
Walking the hallway,
Gojo was holding a big box.
Helping Shoko Ieiri. The doctor and Sorcerer at the Jujutsu High.
"Hey, Shoko. " Puts the box down and exhale.
"What even is in this box anyways?" He says.
His voice was tired and annoyed.
Shoko looked back at Gojo,
"Mm " turns again, focusing on the report in her hand.
"Just some new equipments. "
And suddenly she started laughing while reading the reports.
Gojo felt like chills. And asked "What's so funny? "
Shoko smirked and then said,
"Oh! It's just I was looking at an old piece of paper I found deep inside the main building. The language is difficult but.. "
Gojo looks at her like it's something super boring or just utterly useless.
".. it's the death records of people. Maybe this paper is made recording the deaths with a 100 years of gap. "
Gojo makes a laid back and bored comment— "Who even had this much time to look through 100 years?"
Shoko smiles and says,
"Yea, that's lame. But, I'm a little amused. "
Gojo thought what a terrible time he has come here.. to hear some old rubbish.
"These reports show that.. like a thousand years ago there was a high death rate. I guess, it's pretty much because of the old jujutsu rule. "
Jujutsu rule?
Gojo straightened himself, his eyes even though hid under the mask were sharp.
"What rule?" He tried to ask casually.
"Ah, that. Around maybe until 900 years ago, there was a rule. To exorcise civilians even if they know a little about curses. "
Wait..
Gojo became a little concerned to hear that.
This was unexpected.
But why does it match the question Yuji asked a few days ago?
He stayed casual and asked,
"I didn't know such a rule existed. " He acted to be not so interested in this topic.
"Yea, cuz this rule was dismissed 900 years ago. People in that age were seriously crazy. Jujutsu killed civilians just so they can secure 'secrecy ' and people don't get all scared. " She said nonchalantly.
Gojo still acted cool and bored but his voice was a little more concerned.
"And, how do you know about this old rule?"
Shoko turned to him and said,
"I read about it in the ancient library of jujutsu in the building back when we were in high school. "
Saying that Shoko looked at Gojo and said
"Now, let's get to the medical room. I don't have all the time in the world."
"Huuuuh!? " Gojo sighed in disappointment.
He doesn't want to carry these stuff.
He picked up the box again and started following Shoko.
But.. is it a coincidence?
That Yuji doubted about such a rule?
Or..
Gojo tried to dismiss it, thinking it must is a coincidence.
Chapter 11: Doubts
Chapter Text
It was just another day at Jujutsu High.
Maki Zenin was training with her weapons like usual.
Toge Inumaki and Panda were sitting there watching her while Nobara was standing next to her.
"You know? There's something I've been thinking about. "
Maki swinging her metal polearm was focused in her training.
Though she did keep hearing Nobara at the same time.
Her face didn't show any interest.
Nobara said, "Last month I met an old friend of Yuji's. She was really good. But.. "
Nobara acted indifferent though her voice started to sound concerning—
"But.. When Megumi and I had showed up, that time I saw- "
Slight doubts in Nobara's voice.
"..Yuji looked really angry. But he didn't say anything when we met them. "
Isn't it concerning?
Nobara looked at Maki.
"Hah!" Maki swung her practice weapon as she glanced at Nobara for a second and said.
"If she's not a sorcerer, nor a curse then I don't care. "
She was straightforward and continued her training.
This conversation was not much but.. they didn't know, at the distance Megumi was watching them.
His eyes slightly narrowed.
That girl?
Now that he started to think about it..
Yuji was angry that day, but he didn't care much.
However, that Mirai..
When he recalls the events of that day, the time they all hung out together, he noticed a few things.
That day, they had gone to a few places.
Like shopping. <- Nobara's suggestion.
The cashier lady's monitor wasn't working, there were multiple clothes they had in their hands.
And, Mirai went to the lady and calculated the total amount with tax without even a calculator.
They checked in the phone's calculator if she was correct or not.
And, she was.
Maybe she was smart in maths, he thought.
But then—
When walking on the street, they met a tourist who was maybe Chinese.
The tourist was asking for directions. But all three didn't know the language.
And there.. Mirai spoke.
He was a little shocked and impressed that Mirai knew Chinese.
She spoke fluently.
And.. Mirai was 'an old friend ' right? So why did she.. called Yuji as 'Itadori-san'?
San is not supposed to be used for friends or 'old friends'.
Did she use it because she had been meeting Yuji after a long time?
Maybe it was all a coincidence but..
On today's date when he thinks about it, Yuji's been acting weird since they last met Mirai.
He had been.. more alert!
Megumi sighed and started walking.
Soon, he reached Yuji.
Yuji was cooking, trying to relax.
Stirring the soup.
"Megumi. " he greeted in his cheerful friendly way.
Megumi was not into the act, he asked without waiting,
"What's up with you these days? "
Yuji was caught off guard. He tried to act normally.
"What are you- " he was going to be casual as if there's nothing.
"You had been acting weird. Is it because of that Mirai girl? "
Megumi asked without a blink.
Should Yuji tell him?
Or should he just keep it to himself?
Chapter 12: Conflict
Chapter Text
Far from the city- Tokyo.
In Shinjuku,
Life there was bustling, the night was so bright with those lights.
However, in the less crowdy area,
she was there yawning.
Mirai.
"Urg.. Maybe I should have chosen an even less crowded area." She murmured to herself, her expression was tired and annoyed.
Walking when the street light signaled. Carrying some groceries she bought.
She had been living in Shinjuku for quite a few years.
She was a runaway.
Left her home when she was barely 13 or 14.
Right now, she is 20.
She was looking around, maybe for another brand of cup noodles she wanted.
Just then, she saw a weird place.. it was a building at a distance from her home.
Today, it looked unusually upsetting.
She felt chills seeing that building. It's not like always, that building never felt like this before.
She thought of avoiding,
"Maybe I should take a different route."
she started to walk, taking a different route.
"WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF " A dog in front started to bark. It was a pet.
"AAH!" She was shocked.
She is not usually scared of 'dogs' but maybe because she was already feeling.. a bit scared to see that building.
She looked up at the owner of that dog.
"I am sorry, dear. " The lady said.
"No, it's okay. " She smiled.
The lady dog owner started to walk away.
She looked where they were going.
And it was that building.
The building that feels creepy today...
Is it okay?
DROP
The lady owner dropped her wallet.
"Ah..! Excuse me- you dropped this- "
The lady entered the building.
Mirai looked at the wallet as she picked it up.
Confused if she should give it back to that lady..
But.. the place feels.. off.
She looked at the building..
“Urg. I should just throw it at the gate and go away.” She grumbled
But then.. She looked at the wallet and sighed.
She doesn't like.. to just walk away.
Not when the lady was polite to her.
She squeezed her eyes and thought- Fine, I will just go to the gate and if the lady is there then I will give it to her or I will leave at the gate!
Mirai's foot started to step.
Her steps— slow.
She stood at the gate,
her face— a little scared.
She didn't see anyone around.. it felt weird.
The lady must have yet just reached a few steps ahead of the gate..
She didn't like it, she took a step ahead.
Entering the gate..
Her eyes quickly scanning for the lady.
"Hah! " her face gleamed when she saw the dog lady owner with her dog.
She sighed in relief.
“Now let’s end this crap asap.”
"Excuse me! " She ran to the lady.
A chill still she was feeling around but she thought she would be quick.
In Tokyo, Jujutsu High.
"What are you hiding, Yuji? " Megumi asked.
Yuji tried to act, "What are you talking about, why do you think that? "
Yuji started to look for something, maybe an ingredient for the recipe.
Megumi wasn't buying this act though.
Yuji is definitely hiding something.
But, Megumi didn't press harder.
He understood, Yuji won't tell.
So he left him alone..
Yuji sat down on the floor, feeling conflicted.
"Sukuna.. you better tell me, who really was she? "
An ally of Sukuna?
Or an enemy?
Or just a weird girl?
He wanted Sukuna to answer but.. he didn't reply.
Inside him—
Sukuna was walking in his domain.
"That woman.."
Even he didn't know.
But.. he felt weird every time he thought of her.
An unfamiliar feeling that he doesn't want.
He was annoyed.
Chapter 13: The Building Incident
Chapter Text
In Shinjuku,
Today, the building in Mirai’s neighborhood felt off.
Mirai wasn't going to go even near the area. But,
A dog owner lady had dropped her wallet and so..
Entering the gate..
Her eyes quickly scanning for the lady.
"Hah! " her face gleamed when she saw the lady owner with her dog
"Excuse me! " She ran to the lady.
A chill still she was feeling around but she thought she would be quick.
The lady turned..
Slowly—
"Ah.. " The lady turned, smiling "I didn't realize I dropped it, dear. Thank you"
The lady showed gratitude.
Mirai smiled but in her mind..
This place was feeling too off, she wanted to just— just run away.
It doesn't feel good.
There's something off.
She should go.
She said bye to the lady and sighed, she was relieved that the lady wasn't gone so far.
The lady turned.
Mirai turned.
But—
The moment she turned around...
Her heart dropped.
She saw.. the gate.. The gate.. vanished!
The gate.. wasn't there.
That's where she had entered.
The main gate of the building.
A chill ran down her spine.
"What the-"
She looked back
And there was no one.
Not even the old lady or the dog.
All gone.
No one was around.
The place felt darker.
And darker.
Silent.
This place was already giving her chills—
Suddenly, a tug at her collar she felt.
Terrified.
She tried to look behind, there was no one.
She was scared.
She should run.
She should—
She felt something..
She didn't see but..
She felt— A hand on her mouth.
"Mm mm!"
Someone caught her collar and pulled her into the building...
Thud.
Before she could even scream.
Next night, Shinjuku,
Fixing the glasses, Kiyotaka Ichiji explains the mission to Itadori Yuji, Fushiguro Megumi and Nobara Kugisaki.
"A report was filed regarding this building in the morning today. "
They all looked at the building.
The building was dark.
"A curse spirit might be behind this— 2nd Grade or 1st Grade. We don't know if there are any survivors. There's likely a domain expansion. Your Primary Objective is to investigate the building, determine the curse’s strength, and rescue any survivors. "
The three started to get ready.
"I will stay outside and communicate with Jujutsu HQ if needed. Be careful. "
The three entered.
As soon as they entered, they felt the chill.
This was likely a domain expansion.
They looked behind and the main gate they entered with— no longer there.
But it wasn't something they were scared of.
"Demon dogs. "
Megumi summoned a demon dog.
They were alert.
Was there any survivor?
Is there anyone alive?
".. p.... !" A voice they heard.
A survivor?
They entered the building in a hurry.
Following the voice.
The voice..
The voice—
It was the dog owner lady.
Collapsed there.
They checked her pulses.
Likely faint.
She was hurt,
Her one hand was.. cut.
They looked around.
The dog.. was killed.
Left there in half.
They started the rescue.
"Urf. " The demon dog called.
They looked, it was signaling — another survivor.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
They started to follow asap.
There were many people in this building.
They were hurt.
But they were alive.
Chapter 14: Horror
Chapter Text
The Team—
Yuji, Megumi and Nobara
Were rescuing people.
"How will we get them out of here?" Yuji asked while helping some people.
The people weren't even conscious much.
Likely scared.
They were hurt, some had injuries, lost limbs or arms and some just scratches.
But all scared.
Just walking as they were directed by the team.
Megumi was thinking, how to get these people out?
Nobara was helping and keeping a watch if incase the curse spirit appears.
"Huh?" She noticed.
Ichiji was calling over, his half body could be seen in the domain expansion as if the barrier is so weak that it can be just walked through.
An illusive domain expansion?
Most of the people were now out of this domain expansion.
The domain expansion looked odd like the vanished main gate.
But—
Now that people were out, it was less of a risk.
"It looks like the curse spirit isn't as strong as we thought. " Megumi said as he looked at all the people getting in the ambulance.
"It's not. I just did the analysis. The curse could have used its domain expansion to scare people by showing that there's no main exit. " Ichiji claimed.
"So that curse is just some kind of coward?" Nobara said in annoyance looking at the main gate.
Yuji looked at them as they spoke.
Understanding the situation.
"Yes, some curses get stronger when they sense fear. I believe this curse could be feeding itself with fear of these poor people. "
Ichiji said as he glared at the main gate- the entrance.
"We should go inside again, to see if there is anyone left. " Yuji glared at the gate, ready to enter again.
"We will crush that curse. " Nobara said with an annoyed face.
Megumi didn't even need to say a thing, he was ready.
They can't leave a curse.
Not when they know they can eliminate it.
Inside the building,
At the roof.
SLUUURP
The curse sat.
It was huge.
"Ah.. ah..! " A man there among the remaining people that Yuji and friends didn't find yet, he was awake.
He couldn't see the curse. But—
The view of a cut arm's blood being drunk in the air... was already terrifying.
"No.. "
He couldn't believe what he was seeing.
So scared, so terrified.
Horrific.
The curse stooped and looked at that man.
And he didn't even know that the curse was looking.
The curse raised its arm.
Its sharp nails were reaching him.
Just then—
SMACK
A punch combined with the cursed energy-
Was thrown at the curse.
Yuji.. was angry.
THUD
The curse hit the wall border of the roof.
"There's still a lot of people! " Nobara said.
She and Megumi started helping people escape.
Megumi summoned some of his shikigamis to be quick with the rescue.
While they were on it.
He exhaled.
Collecting his power in his muscles.
Yuji was ready for the combat battle with this curse.
The fight was on between Yuji and the curse.
Yuji alone was enough to defeat this curse.
This curse..
His rage increased just at the thought of how many were victims of this curse.
Meanwhile, Nobara looked if anyone was left.
Megumi was sending off the last person there they found on his shikigami.
"Hah! There's one more! " She saw someone at the corner.
A girl.
It looked like she was hit on the head.
Bleeding.
"Hurry! " Nobara said as she ran to-
Her face horrified.
"Mirai!?" Nobara shouted.
She wasn't expecting this.
She ran close to Mirai...
On Mirai's name, both Yuji and Megumi looked.
Mirai?
Here?
"I will send her on the shikigami. " Megumi quickly came.
Yuji's battle was forgotten for a moment as he watched Mirai.
He had questions.
His eyes were seeing the person.. who stood against Sukuna.
Weak?
Now in blood?
Chapter 15: Confusion
Chapter Text
Megumi sent Mirai.
Mirai wasn't even conscious.
Who knows how long she had been left like this..
Hit in the head.
Bleeding..
Inside Yuji—
Sukuna was standing there.
His fingers twitched.
He didn't mean this,
He hated this,
He didn't know why—
Seeing Mirai in this condition.. was making him angry .
He is the King.
The King of Curses.
He doesn't feel things like these.
He..
"Tch. "
On the roof,
The battle was between Yuji and the curse.
"It's all clear. Everyone escaped. " Nobara notified.
Megumi nodded.
This was a signal.
That Yuji can full-fledged battle and end this curse.
"Alright! HAAAH!"
POOW
Yuji threw a powerful punch.
Mirai..
She was crazy..
She went on a date with Sukuna..
But—
She never hurt anyone!
He threw more fists and kicks.
His eyes raged.
It's not just about Mirai.
It's about everyone..
The victims this curse made!
POOW
He threw his final blow.
BAAM
And so.. the story of this curse, ends here.
Two days later, hospital, Tokyo.
Mirai was in the hospital, yet unconscious.
Luckily, the injury wasn't deep.
But since she was bleeding and left untreated for 20 hours, this was an emergency.
A bandage was there rolled around her head.
Yuji, Megumi and Nobara had come to meet her.
"She's still unconscious?" Nobara asked as they three entered.
"Yes, the doctor says she will wake up anytime soon. "
The nurse said as she left.
Door closed.
And all three were left alone with the patient.
Silent..
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Nobara reached Mirai's bed. Touching the railing of the bed.
"Um.. atleast she's safe. " Nobara said. Watching Mirai.
She was glad.
She doesn't show it, but she doesn't want anyone hurt, not friends at the least.
Yuji came and sat on the chair next to Mirai.
He had a lot of questions.
His expressions unreadable yet his eyes fixed on Mirai.
Megumi stood at the distance as he watched.
The room stayed silent.
"We should go now. " Megumi finally said.
Megumi turned, starting to leave.
The others were ready to walk too.
Just then,
Mirai's fingers twitched.
" ! " Nobara saw it.
They all looked behind, at Mirai.
Mirai's eyes snapped.
Wide open.
"AAAAAH" She screamed and sat up.
Panicking.
Her eyes squeezed shut from the horror.
The last she remembered
that moment..
In the building,
The feeling.. of some hand covering her mouth.
The feeling of being pulled.
She breathed heavily.
Throwing fists.
All three blinked at her.
"Wow, girl it's okay, you are safe- "
SWISH
Nobara tried to calm Mirai but she threw her fists in defence.
Nobara backed off a little.
She was still feeling that nightmare, that building.
"Mirai, you're okay! " Yuji spoke,
his voice was frustrated.
This girl.. is she real?
She is scared?
She wasn't scared of Sukuna.
Now she is scared of some low grade curse spirit?
Nobara snapped,
She caught Mirai's one hand,
"Open your eyes, idiot! "
Slowly
Mirai opened her eyes.
She calmed down,
looking around..
It's.. not that building.
She looked at Nobara.
Then Megumi.
And then.. Yuji.
"This is a hospital. " Megumi said.
"Hos..pital?" She was now calm.
Yet, in confusion..
Wasn't she.. in the building in her neighborhood?
Chapter 16: Observing
Chapter Text
It was another beautiful day.
The birds were chirping and flowers were blooming.
The leaves on the trees moved as the wind blew.
And, in the hospital where Mirai was recovering —
"Haah!? This looks so delicious! " Mirai said excitedly with sparkling eyes as she parted the chopsticks seeing the delicious food in front of her.
Cooking of Yuji.
"Thank you for the food!" She started to eat.
Enjoying the taste.
"Mmm.. so delicious. I.. neve eal shomethin dis tasty! (I never ate something this tasty) " She spoke while eating.
Yuji looked at her.
A weak smile on his face.
He still was unsure,
But—
This woman is.. actually good .
Apart from the fact that she likes Sukuna and went on a date with him..
She is normal.
Mirai looked at Nobara as they talked about something.
She is.. friendly .
Is she actually.. a good person?
Not a threat?
Then why does she know things about Sukuna?
Was it actually all from that book?
Back on that day when she woke up from the building incident.
She told us about how she entered the building and the gate vanished.
And the feeling of a hand on her mouth and being pulled inside the building.
It was all easy for us to understand—
That it was all that curse spirit's doing.
And the fact that she didn't see a curse, that means she is just a normal civilian.
Isn't she?
Just a non-sorcerer.
So we made a story,
"That.. it must be because of that head injury " Yuji said.
A non-sorcerer should not know about curses.
Because.. Knowing about curses will create unnecessary tension and trauma.
"Yeah, you were probably hallucinating." Nobara said, trying to help in covering up.
"Uh.. " Mirai looked at them, a little confused.
"But.. how did I hurt my head? " She said as she tried to recall.
"You must got a hit from somewhere. A wall? "
Mirai blinked at Megumi.
We thought— crap! She will figure it out.
"Well, " she put her hand on her face and thought
"That can be... "
She looked at us.
Did she actually believe us?
Or did she just played along?
Back to today.
"Wooow. " Mirai looked satisfied.
"You cook so good, Itadori-san!"
Mirai said happily.
"I'm glad you like it. " Yuji said in his usual friendly manner.
Nobara was watching them both, keeping both of her hands on the side of her face.
A question came to her mind.
"Why do you call Yuji, Itadori-san? "
She asked Mirai straightforward.
Not forced, not deply into it.
Just asked as the question had popped up in her mind.
Unlike Yuji and Megumi who kept waiting for the opportunities to come.
The room went silent for a moment.
Megumi felt watching them closely.
He wants to hear this answer too.
Yuji stayed shut.
Not speaking anything.
"Uh.. " Mirai started to speak.
Her voice was a bit shy, hesitant.
".. Because I am older than him. " She felt embarrassed to even say this so she looked down.
She didn't know what reason she should give,
"I thought it won't be nice to call someone casually when you are seeing them after a long time. " She lied.
But her embarrassed face for lying..
It just made it look perfect.
As if she was telling the truth.
"Oh! Don't worry, forget that idiot. You don't need to be formal, you can me Nobara or Kugisaki, whatever you like. " Nobara smirked.
Mirai smiled— genuine.
"Really!?"
The girls started to talk.
Yuji's eyes didn't waver.
Staring Mirai.
He noticed,
When she spoke, her eyes didn't spark the honesty today.
Her eyes speak honestly.
Chapter 17: Not suspicious but is suspicious
Chapter Text
It was a soft chilling night.
Peaceful.
Everyone at the Jujutsu High were asleep.
Gentle breaths.
Yet, in this peaceful night.
Somewhere things weren't so peaceful...
Inside Yuji —
Sitting on the throne of skulls.
Faint memories were forging before him.
Sukuna.
The memory of..
A familiar voice.
"AAAH!!! " screaming with pain.
Someone..
He can't recall.
It was a faint memory, too faint.
Was it even worth?
He had killed several but..
Never did he remember them this way..
A familiar voice..
A girl..
Faint in his memory.
He slowly opened his eyes.
Irritated look yet.. something more.
Something deep.
Something that he himself might have forgotten.
He couldn't name what he was feeling...
It was annoying.
Same night,
In Gojo's room, he was reading a book.
Wearing his glasses and his hair down on his head.
The casual black outfit he wears when he is not in the role of a teacher or the sorcerer.
He wasn't the kind to read books, yet he had set the table lamp on and focused.
Knock knock
A soft knock on his door.
"Hm? " he looked behind at the door.
He kept his book aside and stood up
Who would it be right now?
In the middle of the night?
Could be some mission.
He walked to the door and opened it.
"Huh?" He was surprised.
"Megumi? "
At this late night, it's Megumi.
"What a surprise, still awake?" Gojo smirked, speaking in his usual banter.
Megumi stood there.
His eyes— serious.
"I have something to tell you. "
His voice was firm yet it was enough to tell
That something is serious.
Gojo's eyes narrowed.
"Come on in." He said calmly with a smile yet his voice also sounded concerned.
He stepped back allowing Megumi to enter.
Something serious is going on, he could tell.
Gojo and Megumi sat.
"So, what is it? " His smirk is still there.
"It's about Yuji's friend. " Megumi said without a blink of hesitation.
"You mean his friend who was caught in the incident in Shinjuku? What about her? " His smirk starting to fade.
Yuji's friend, huh?
Megumi isn't the type to talk about other's ' friends '.
Gojo's eyes narrowed.
Starting to look slightly serious.
"She didn't do anything but—" he slightly averted his gaze.
He didn't have any proof.
"Yuji had been acting differently since the first time we ever saw her. "
Was it right to even suspect her?
Or was it all in his mind?
Megumi didn't know.
"Tell me from the start. " Gojo said, he felt that something was not right.
And so—
Megumi started from the start, the first time when he and Nobara met Mirai.
How they had seen Yuji angry at Mirai but dismissed his anger quickly when he saw them.
Yuji's weird behavior, like being more alert than usual, weird question about the rule.
How Yuji acted when Megumi had asked him if something was wrong.
How Yuji stays friendly yet not as usual when Mirai is around.
And not just that, but also some things that he was feeling weird about—
Mirai’s intelligence like how she could calculate quickly without needing a calculator.
And her ability to speak in a different language.
There's something, he can't just put it.
" I doubt she even believed us when we tried to cover the curse incident. But it could be I'm just thinking. " Megumi said.
Gojo heard him all.
Thinking about it. Yet, he playfully just said,
"You must be overthinking, Megumi. But.. " His eyes turned serious "I will look into it. "
"Just in case. " He said in a low voice.
Chapter 18: Falling act
Chapter Text
Next morning,
Yuji was sitting and playing a video game when Gojo bends over, hands inside his pockets. With a grin as usual.
"Hey, Yuji. "
Yuji looks up, blinking.
"Sensei?"
Gojo pulls back.
"How is your friend, the one in the hospital?" Acting cool as always.
"Oh! " Yuji looked a little surprised.
He wasn't expecting Gojo to suddenly ask about Mirai.
"She's good. Recovering. " Yuji smiled, being the usual.
But—
That doesn't mean..
Gojo didn't see the initial surprised look.
Gojo smiled the same.
But the eyes under the mask had narrowed—
As if he was getting the hints.
Later,
In the hospital,
Mirai was looking out the window.
It felt peaceful.
Just then,
She heard the faint sound of door's opening.
She looked behind.
And smiled, "Itadori-san - " She saw the figure behind Yuji " ! "
" Hii " Gojo raised his hand, waving a hi.
"He's my Sensei, he wanted to meet you. " Yuji introduced Gojo calmly.
Trying to act normal.
"I'm Gojo Satoru. You're 'Mirai'— " Gojo smiled and being friendly.
"... Yuji's 'friend'? " Gojo kept the smile but beneath the mask
He was already narrowing his eyes.
She doesn't look like she has any cursed energy.
And doesn't look like she's a curse.
Interesting.
" Hello. " Mirai smiled.
"Yes, I am. It's a pleasure to meet you. " Mirai said.
She is keeping that smile. Making sure that her act isn't caught.
Yet,
Gojo already saw the small line of sweat already forming at the edge of her face.
Gojo and Mirai start to talk casually.
Gojo being the usual playful he is and Mirai replying to him— friendly and calculated.
Yuji was just there— standing in the mid.
Not interfering but a part of him wondered
What if Gojo figures that they're not friends.
He didn't know,
Should he wish the cover to be blown
Or just stay hid.
"Alright, Mirai. See you later. " Gojo said as soon as he saw time.
It was already past some time.
"I will take my leave. And — "
Gojo looks back,
Giving a knowing look.
".. leave you 'friends' alone. "
Click.
He left.
It was chilling.
Mirai wondered, did he doubt?
His voice did felt like he was suspicious of her.
She bit her lips.
Tightening her grip on the blanket in her hands.
But she was relieved when he left.
She left out a soft sigh in relief.
Yuji looked at her act.
Her grip on the blanket still tight.
Silence in the room remained, after Gojo left.
After a brief moment, Yuji spoke.
"Mirai. "
Mirai looked at him.
His face looked frustrated but not completely on show.
"What are you even doing, really? "
He didn't like that he had to act 'friends', he isn't the type to hide or lie.
Not atleast with his sensei.
"What do you mean? "
Mirai blinked at him, genuinely confused by his question.
He doesn't know either.
She never did anything he could possibly question.
She had already told him how she learned about Sukuna.
So, why does she fell.. off?
"You lied to me when you said that rule about jujutsu. That they will kill you just for knowing. "
Mirai’s eyes widened.
Yes, this one thing she had told him.
This one, the rule.
He had asked Gojo about it, and was told there's no such rule.
For the sake of this rule—
He was hiding her.
"That can't be— " She said in disbelief.
She spoke as if she was 100% sure that such a rule existed.
She looked down, thinking.
Yuji didn't look away.
And while they were confused.
Gojo was watching them from outside the door.
Chapter 19: Mirai’s view
Chapter Text
A long-long time ago,
In a distant memory,
They were standing at the top of the hill.
Alone at night.
Watching the villages and towns at the distance.
It was beautiful.
Just then, he spoke.
"Mirai, "
She looked up at him.
The wind was chilling.
Her hair that were falling down framed her face with innocence.
Her kosode made her look like a beautiful girl in that night.
" Whatever I tell you, about sorcerers or the curses. Never speak of this to anyone. " he spoke in a deep and serious tone.
She tilted her face.
He couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle.
His hand reached her face.
Putting a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
His tone once again serious—
" The rules are, no civilian should know about it. Not even a little hint. If they found out, they might hurt you. So, it's our secret. "
"Okay, I won't." She smiled at him.
Back to the hospital.
"You lied to me when you said that rule about jujutsu. That they will kill you just for knowing. " Yuji said.
Mirai's eyes widened.
She wasn't lying, she knows.
But Yuji thinks she is!
"That can't be— " She said in disbelief.
"That.. " She looked down.
She didn't know what to say.
She wasn't sure what now.
Yuji didn't look away.
He could see her eyes telling the truth but—
This time he won't blindly believe.
He won't take it, even if her eyes look.. true.
"I don't trust you. " he spoke, clearly telling what he feels.
Mirai looked at him.
"Trust..? " She murmured.
Yuji stood up.
Without a word.
He walked out of the room.
He is not the type who needs answers.
But—
Mirai just watched him leave.
" Trust... " She murmured to herself again as she kept staring at the door.
Then, she looked down.
Staring at the blanket she had yet held with her hands tight.
"Trust.. " She repeated again
She squeezed the blanket with her fists even tighter.
Her expressions— unreadable.
As if there's something deep.
That word..
'Trust'— he speaks of?
That's one word— she hates.
Her eyes still on the blanket.
Gripping tight.
Suddenly —
Her back of the head started to hurt.
"Urg.. "
She let the blanket go and touched her head.
It hurts..
But she was okay.
"It's just a dumb head injury. " She said in annoyance.
She spoke to herself.
As if reminding— it's not too much.
Zrrr
The automatic doors of the hospital opened.
Yuji walked out of the hospital.
Looking down at the feet.
He was feeling conflicted.
Did he do right?
"Hey. " A voice he heard.
He looked up.
Surprised.
"Gojo-sensei?"
Gojo smirked as he leaned a bit.
Hands inside his pockets.
But his face, unreadable.
"So the 'old friends' aren't so old, huh?" He said playfully.
Yet, his comment sounded more than just a tease.
Chapter 20: Suffocation and Confusion
Chapter Text
In the hospital,
Mirai was standing at the counter.
A concerned look on her face when she spoke to the staff there.
"We are sorry Miss, but we cannot allow your discharge without an ID proof. "
The staff lady said calmly.
"But—"
She tried to convince.
"We are sorry. Rules are rules." The staff lady said cutting Mirai’s plea.
A frown formed at Mirai’s face as she backed off and let others in the queue forward.
She couldn't believe this.
She is stuck in this hospital.
And for some head injury that is.
She was annoyed.
She walked back to her ward.
How can they expect her to provide a 'ID proof' for allowing her to leave..
She sighed heavily.
She lives in Shinjuku.
And this hospital? — it's in Tokyo.
If she needs to show any kind of proof of her identity then..
They will have to let her go!
Her ID, her bank details, everything is home!
She would have shown a bank card or so if her wallet hadn't been lost in that building incident..
She leaned back on her bed.
Looking at the sky outside the window.
Sighed again.
"It's suffocating. "
She held a grip on the blanket.
Jujutsu sorcerers...
After all this time...
Her grip tightened.
She narrowed her eyes— something deep in her eyes.
After all this time—
She has to be with them?
She let her grip go
Just to see
Her fingers trembling.
It's been so long..
Yet, she still trembles—
Still trembles to think of.. Sorcerers.
Her first trauma.
She is angry.
Still fears..
"Should I run away tonight?"
She whispered to herself.
Clenching her fists tight.
As if trying to hold her ground.
Her eyes had something deep— something painful.
Yuji's room, Jujutsu High.
Gojo was sitting on the bed.
Yuji sat on the chair of his study table.
They hadn't spoken ever since they met outside the hospital.
Gojo kept a smile on his face.
But who knows what he was actually thinking.
Yuji looked sad,
Probably still feeling guilty for lying that he was friends with Mirai.
After some moments of seconds.
Gojo speaks as he kept looking straight at the door instead of looking at Yuji,
Leaning back slightly
"So, what's with this Mirai girl? " he asked casually.
"Sensei, I— "
"This time I want the truth, Yuji. " Gojo's expressions changed.
"Because.. "
Yuji was surprised seeing the shift in tone.
"I'm not tolerating another lie. " Gojo said in a serious tone.
Hearing him say that..
Yuji knew that this was the farest he could hide.
And—
Why to hide?
Mirai had lied to him about the rule.
She is suspicious.
Possibly a threat.
Or else, why would she speak of some lame rule that doesn't even exist?
He inhaled.
And exhaled.
His body language — no longer showing confusion.
Gojo waited for Yuji's reply.
"Sensei. "
Yuji looked into Gojo's eyes.
Absolute.
"I think, "
Is he correct to tell?
It doesn't matter, she could be a threat.
And this can't be changed.
"Mirai knows something. "
Gojo looked at Yuji — something?
Tilting his head slightly.
"About Sukuna. "
He's sorry he hid this for this long.
But now, he won't hide!
Chapter 21: Escape Plan
Chapter Text
The atmosphere of the room was chilling.
"..Sukuna? " Gojo's voice sounded a bit serious.
He stood up and got close to Yuji.
Dangerous voice.
"Explain."
Yuji took a deep breath and spoke.
About Mirai’s first encounter.
She knew Sukuna's name since the first time.
She wished to meet him.
Gojo looked intrigued.
"And..?"
Sukuna took over.
"Sukuna.. that evil.. he.. " Yuji felt a little ashamed to speak.
"He.. went on a date with her. " Yuji finally said.
Gojo stood there, just staring.
"For real? "
"For real. " Yuji said making a annoyed and disturbed face.
Gojo was froze.
And then, breaking the ice, he finally..
Laughed!
He laughed so much
"That's new. "
He chucked and then finally stopped.
His voice slowly down, low— dangerous.
"Anything else?"
His smirk lingered.
It was past midnight.
In the hospital,
Mirai was in bed. Eyes closed.
But was she really asleep?—
No. She wasn't.
She was waiting, for the right moment.
She opened her eyes when the clock ticked past 3 am.
Her eyes, without her moving— scanned the room.
No one is here.
She sat up and looked out of the window.
The street looked deserted.
This is her chance.
She walked to the door, slowly peaked out of the room.
It's still a little busy, huh?
People were still there, nurses walking around, patients being moved from here to there.
She figured— This wasn't a safe option.
And so, her next option is...
Her gaze moved to the window.
Some time ago, she had noticed. This tree she sees everyday out of her window— it's huge.
It's huge and strong enough that it connects to the wall outside the hospital.
If she uses it well, then this is her best escape.
She narrowed her eyes, this is her chance.
She climbed onto the bed, looking out of the window.
The cold breeze..
So chilling
Yet, nothing mattered.
She is not some weak.
And climbing a tree? It's a easy task.
She needs to escape.
She doesn't want to be with the jujutsu sorcerers.
She grabbed the thick branches of the tree. Started to crawl on it, moving.
Slowly.
Slowly.
She kept her eyes out, no one should see her.
No one.
Please, no one.
Please, just no one.
SWISH
"! " She turned around.
No one.
What the hell? She .. she felt something passed by!
No, maybe.. maybe she's seeing things.
Yeah, of course. Afterall, it was supposed to be bed time. Not tree climbing.
She moved ahead.
Ahead and ahead.
Wah!
Her face gleamed.
She finally saw the wall of the hospital.
The tips of the branches of this tree were weak.
Can she reach the wall?
Well, escaping was always about gut.
And she had it.
She jumped!
LAND~
She is out.
Easily, right?— She was proud.
Clap clap clap
"Huh? " She looked up.
Her eyes widened as she saw the figure in front.
"That was a safe landing, Miss.. Mirai. " he smirked.
Gojo Satoru.
Chapter 22: Interrogation
Chapter Text
Urg..
"Umm..."
What happened?
Mirai tried to open her eyes. But they felt too heavy to move.
What had happened..?
Is someone saying something?
Her fingers twitched.
.!?...
Are her wrists tied?
She tried to open her eyes again, slowly opening them.
A pale yellow room.
Charms and seals everywhere.
Where is she—
"Ah, so you finally are up, Miss Mirai. "
Gojo Satoru?
He was sitting on the chair, smirking.
Mirai looked at him, shocked but then
Glared.
What does he want?
"What is all this? Where am I? Uh!"
She looked at her back, her wrists were tied to a chain.
What is the meaning of this?
She looked at him again, confused, but still strong.
"How did you learn about Sukuna?" Gojo didn't bother to act.
"What..?"
"Yuji told me everything. My student is good but you— What motives do you have?" Gojo stood up.
"I don't have any! I only learned about Sukuna from a book! " She said glaring right at him, yet was she lying?
"Still trying to act, huh? " Gojo looked bored.
Mirai looked at him, furious.
She dislikes being held like this.
Gojo started to walk.
But the second he moved, she flinched.
It was instinct? Was she.. did she remembered something.. the sorcerers walking to her..
No , she shouldn't think of that—
But, Gojo already noticed it.
"Scared?" Gojo smirked.
Mirai kept her ground and said,
"What do you want? Why am I here? Where am I?" She was getting more and more frustrated.
"Now now, the smiley woman is getting wild?" He chucked dangerously.
"This is the interrogation room. You are our suspects. You have some information about that Sukuna, don't you? " He leaned close with the dangerous smirk of his..
Mirai just glared at him..
If only she had.. if only she had anyway to save herself..
Her fingers twitched instinctively, wanting to get something to attack but her wrists are tied..
"I already told you. I read about him in a book—"
THUD
Gojo threw a book on the floor right in front of her eyes.
An ancient book.
"I found the book at the library you mentioned. " Gojo said as his voice got low and serious "But, it doesn't describe about Sukuna as much as you know. "
Mirai flinched.
"It barely has his name as evil demon, nothing more. So, what are you hiding?" Gojo smirked.
Is Mirai out of cards?
Her eyes kept staring the book as if thinking of another escape plan.
"What are you, what do you want? Are you a high level cursed spirit who can hide their cursed energy? Or are you a sorcerer with that skill? "
Mirai glared at him.
Mirai.. is annoyed.
In the past,
On the the hill she lived,
16 years old.
Searching for some fruits for the dinner.
"Hello" A group of men appeared— sorcerers.
She looked there.
" Please come with us we are Sukuna's friends. "
They didn't felt good. She is told to not trust sorcerers.
"Huh? I am sorry but I am not aware of any friends he has. He never mentioned. "
She glared at them, her hand slowly moving to her katana as the moment passed.
"So, you are one smart curse, huh?"
Mirai widened her eyes in disbelieve— curse!?
But she is a– a human!
And before she knew it, she was already attacked by them.
She hates sorcerers.
Even now.
"Your tendency to keep glaring in this position tells you are something more than you show it. " His smirk widened.
He leaned close, so dangerous that he could actually erase her.
Mirai got more furious, and annoyed.
She lifted her leg and kicked Gojo's stomach.
" Oufh !" Gojo immediately put hands on his stomach.
" Mind your distance . I said once, I'm not repeating again, I learned about him from that book. I'm not some cursed spirit or whatever sorcerer. I'm Mirai. "
She said that all with a firm yet annoyed voice.
It seems, this crazy woman is not going to speak.
Chapter 23: Battle of enigma
Chapter Text
Oof..
Now Gojo was actually irritated.
His lips twitched in annoyance.
She won't speak a word more than what she has already told.
But he is sure she knows something..
Something..
His lips curled into a smile again as he straightened himself.
Something, huh?
He laughed like a devil in waiting.
She was confused but refused to show fear.
Glaring him— What is on his mind next?
He took a deep breath from his nose and then looked at Mirai.
"So.." His smirk widened as if he has a perfect card to play on her
"How did you know about that rule?"
He said as his voice dropped dangerously.
Mirai's eyes widened slightly— What?..
"That lame rule about civilians getting killed just for knowing about the curses. You know, you told that to Yuji. " He smirked wider.
Mirai's eyes widened.
She is shocked, in disbelief.
She remembers telling Yuji about this rule.
But back then, she had no idea that.. this rule doesn't exist anymore.
If she had known.. she would have never used that rule for her escape.
She bit her lips.. what should she do?
She was thinking and there, Gojo..
He just smiled, waiting for her response.
He knew Mirai was trapped.
She can't escape this one.
Now she will have to tell the truth.
He was sure—
"I.. " Mirai looked down.. her voice like a whisper
That's it he knew— She is going to reveal.
She is now.
She—
"I.. "
Gojo watched closely— here's his win.
"I made it up. Your student looked gullible. " Mirai stuck her tongue out like an innocent girl as she looked at him.
"What!?"
"Wait, no way! Did such a rule really exist? " Mirai asked with wide eyes and a surprised face.
Gojo just stared at her.
Such an enigma.
A hard to be caught fish indeed.
"Yea, it did. It got dismissed 900 years ago or something I guess. " Gojo said casually.
They both acted.
Just playing along.
This is a touch battle indeed.
Later, in the evening,
Mirai was bouncing as she was walking onto the streets.
She was freed from the interrogation.
Gojo just watched her go.
Why let her go?
This interrogation was being done without the involvement of the higher ups.
No higher up was aware of this whole case.
And as she showed no curse energy or traits of a curse..
He had no right to keep her locked for the interrogation.
He had to let her go.
His lips curled into a wide smile— interesting.
Now he will have to look into this more.
This woman Mirai... is such a mystery
Creator's note: This was my favorite chapter so far to write!!! XD
Chapter 24: Sounds of the past
Chapter Text
Zrrr
Mirai walked out of a convenience store.
Smiling as she held the bag in her crossed arms.
But, there was a twitch at the end of the curl of her lips.
She is annoyed.
By this idiot man following her at the back.
Gojo Satoru.
He had been following her since that day.
Mirai was annoyed despite showing a smile on her face as she walked ahead — urg, if you want to follow me atleast don't make it this obvious!
The day when she escaped the interrogation, after that, she had come home.
Her injury was healed.
Started living her life in Shinjuku just like she used to.
But–
Ever since, she noticed a figure always keeping an eye on her.
Waiting for her to leave any signs.
Anything that could lead to something.
Mirai looked up and inhaled from her nose deeply.
Screaming in her mind— I swear, I'm never going to Tokyo again!
"Hm?"
Suddenly she felt a wave of wind.
Cold and yet nice.
She looked at the sky above.
The night sky looked beautiful.
Slight hid because of the lights of the buildings.
Yet, it still stood out.
Just then, as she kept looking at the sky.
A moment passed inside her mind.
A clip of the past—
Where, she was 12 or 13 maybe.
Walking through the hill, passing by the huge trees under the brightness of the sun.
She was wearing a Kosode. A knife at her side because she couldn't afford a katana.
Her hair tied up— to give her a look of a boy.
And there was one annoying boy who was her same age— followed her.
"Will you stop following me!?" She shouted at him, not hiding her feline voice.
She never had to hide her being a girl in front of him.
And he in return,
Stuck out his tongue and said
"Who do you think you are to tell me?" He just teased her more.
And yet, they still walked together. Bickering and laughing
It was annoying, yet it's one of the beautiful memories...
Mirai's lips curled into a smile, a happy smile
As she remembered the past.
It was a happy memory.
And Gojo following her, just reminded her of how he used to follow her.
She couldn't help but feel her cheeks slightly burn red.
Smiling.
And so, started walking ahead.
Forgot that she is being followed.
Meanwhile,
In Tokyo, Jujutsu Tech dorms.
Yuji had lay down on his stomach on the bed.
Reading a manga.
No one was around.
His voice lower than a whisper
"Hey, Sukuna. You actually don't know who is Mirai? "
He asked as he just stared his manga.
Silence—
Sukuna gave no replies.
"I know you are hearing me, just spill it already!" Yuji got annoyed, his voice just a little louder. Loud enough for Sukuna and still low enough that no one would know he is speaking.
Why would Sukuna not speak?
Well, he's not the kind who would reply to Yuji but..
Inside Yuji —
"Tch. That brat thinks I will answer him? " Sukuna spoke to himself in annoyance.
But was he actually annoyed by Yuji?—
No.
He was sitting on his throne.
His chin rested on one palm.
And his other arm rested on the armrest of the throne.
There, his fingers taping it.
Sheer annoyance.
He had just remembered something—
A buried past that he doesn't even acknowledge.
Yet, still holding something in it.
In that memory,
There's a girl..
Screaming.
Screaming his name.
But.. not out of fearing him.
But, out of need for help.
She was bleeding.
This view somehow, wasn't a moment he remembers as something to be amused about.
This view—
This—
No, there's no way.
He is Ryomen Sukuna— the evil.
He enjoys taking lives.
Not—
Not mourn over them!
This is annoying.
Frustrating.
He grits his teeth.
Just then—
"Hey, I'm talking to you. Tell me! I know you know something about that Mirai, atleast tell me if she's a sorcerer— "
"Will you shut up, brat! Why do you think will I even speak to you!? " Sukuna snapped.
He shouted in Yuji's mind.
So loud.
Yuji felt his head is spinning from hearing such a loud shout of Sukuna.
And inside —
"Tch."
Sukuna leaned back on his throne.
This is not his style to lose his control.
He closed his eyes.
And tried to calm down.
Nothing had ever made him snap like this before.
This woman surely is annoying.
Chapter 25: Too human
Chapter Text
Mirai was sitting in the garden, sketching on a book for practice.
Gojo Satoru?— long forgotten in the background.
She stopped caring about him and just worked.
On the other side,
Gojo was getting impatient.
He stood hid, crossed arms.
His fingers tapping in annoyance on his arms. — Why isn't she making a move?
Is she really a normal human?
Are all his suspicions just suspicions and she actually doesn't know a thing?
No.
He sighed.
She does. He is sure of it.
Mirai stood up, went to an open air gym in the park and did some physical training — As always.
He has gotten used to her daily routine.
She wakes up at whatever time. Lives alone. Only survives on cup noodles, instant food and fruits, sometimes restaurants.
Her source of income? — seems like she relies on some manga work.
Her day usually goes with her sitting on the screen for hours till midnight.
In the evening she takes strolls and does some physical training like the open air gym.
She doesn't seem to hold any kind of grudges.— clear and straightforward.
Like, he saw a woman by mistakenly dropping water on her, she showed a sad reaction but weakly smiled and said it's okay. But at the same time, there was a man who looked at her in an indecent manner and tried to indirectly joke in a bad way and she.. slapped him. She didn't hold grudges, her responses were immediate.
So human.
He is intrigued.
This woman shows no signs out of ordinary.
"Hmm..."
Gojo watched her closely as she did some bodyweight press.
It looks like.. she won't give him the information he needs.
He puts a finger on his chin as he thought,
Maybe, he needs to make her make a move.
But how?
As he watched—
"Senpai, what about we go shopping now? " Nobara's voice.
Gojo looked with the side eyes under the blindfold.
What are they doing here in Shinjuku?
Nobara, Maki, Yuji and Megumi were here too.
All of them walking at some distance.
Unaware that Gojo is here.
Just then,
Gojo remembered that they had a mission related task here.
But should he care about that now?— No, this woman is a more dangerous threat, isn't she?
He looked at Mirai again.
Mirai was done with her exercises, so she took her bag and started to leave.
Gojo followed her in the shadows, to get seriously hidden.
He doesn't want to play this game any longer.
Tap.
Tap.
Tap.
Mirai stepped out. Feeling refreshed.
"Huh? " Someone's surprised voice.
She looked, it was Nobara. With a girl with glasses, Megumi and...
Itadori Yuji.
She just stared at them.
Seeing Yuji here..
He reminded her of.. Sukuna.
Her eyes widened as she remembered Sukuna.
Her heart pounded.
She was stopped in her footsteps.
Sukuna..
Ryomen Sukuna...
Her hold on the strap of the bag on her back tightened unknowingly.
Unaware of her feeling, as all those sorcerers saw her,
Nobara waved a hi, "Hey, Mirai! "
Nobara looked happy.
"So that's Mirai, huh?" Maki said in a low voice, she wasn't that interested.
And Megumi and Yuji?
They exchanged glances with each other.— What if it's a trap?
Only Yuji and Megumi are aware of Mirai being suspicious.
All four started to walk towards Mirai.
As soon as Mirai saw them approaching, she straightened her composure.
All the feeling and burning cheeks?— gone.
Her lips curled into a smile as she said, "Hi! "
Innocent smile.
They approached her, and Nobara and Mirai started to talk like friends.
Megumi and Yuji stayed quiet as Nobara introduced Maki to Mirai.
Mirai blends in so well.
But, at the distance—
Gojo was still watching.
His lips curled into a smile, as he saw the students and Mirai interact.
"So, my students are helping me unknowingly, huh? " He muttered to himself.
Expecting her to leave some clues now.
Chapter 26: Recap and spark
Chapter Text
Story so far,
Itadori Yuji had met a strange woman— Mirai.
This woman, not only knew about Sukuna but went on a date with him too!
Date?— damn.
And Sukuna being the ever evil jerk got kicked in.. well by Mirai.
This showed she was not afraid of him.
But not just that,
She blushes seeing Ryomen Sukuna.
And..
When Sukuna made her cry, he.. felt something in him.. guilt? He knew he did felt something.
That monster has emotions?
Who knows, but one thing was certain— Mirai was making him feel.
Ever since the date, Mirai actually.. never got out of his head.
And the funniest part?— Mirai seems to possess no cursed energy.
She is a human.
It's so difficult to accept.
Because, she plays the game really well.
Her each card is a win.
Megumi noticed her— super intelligent, knows foreign languages. It's all good but..
Megumi couldn't help but be suspicious of her, because, he never saw Yuji so disturbed. Yuji has been so alert ever since meeting Mirai.
So, Satoru Gojo came into the story.
And Gojo's investigation took him here— This girl is too normal yet she knows something about Sukuna.
Her fearlessness against Sukuna alone is terrifying.
But the fact that she can't see curses?— interesting.
Gojo noticed, she shows small signs of— but does that— She is afraid of.. sorcerers?
Now that's new.
Gojo tried to interrogate her.
But she defeated him in his own game.— irritating.
She won't say a word other than that she read about Sukuna in a book.
Gojo followed her, kept a close watch.
Yet, all he found was.. she is normal!
A simple routine, no signs of anomaly.
She did nothing out of the ordinary.
Yet, it was itching— he knew Mirai knows something.
She does know something.
If we see her.
She is too green.
Yet, too red.
She doesn't seem to hide anything.
Yet, it looks like..
She is hiding everything.
After keeping a watch on her for so long.
Gojo understood one thing— She is not going to say anything.
He will have to make her.
Gojo Satoru, Itadori Yuji, Fushiguro Megumi — all are suspicious of this woman.
Ryomen Sukuna?— he seems to be battling his own war.
Memories. That he doesn't recognize, yet. At the bottom, he knows they are true.
Now,
Nobara put a hand on Mirai's shoulder.
"Say, Mirai-chan! Wanna go shopping with us? " Nobara asked casually.
Mirai blinked, "Shopping?"
Nobara remembered— Mirai's fashion sense is good.
But before she could drag Mirai to shop—
"Uhem-uhem. " Maki stopped Nobara.
"We can't right now, we need to go back. " Maki said.
Nobara looked at Maki and made a face— Why?
They can't go, Maki tried to hint Nobara that she.. has a weapon on her back. Inside her bag,
Maki's katana.
Megumi and Yuji tried to persuade Nobara too that they need to go back.
They all spoke in a signaling, hinting, whispering rather than speaking full or loud sentences.
Because Mirai is a civilian, they have to believe that.
And they can't tell about their exorcism in public.
They needed to go for reporting about their mission.
Just then—
Mirai's eyes widened.. as she stared at the small visible thing from Maki's bag.
"Is that... "
Everyone turned around when they heard her voice.— little surprised.
".. a Katana? "
Mirai's eyes sparkled.
Chapter 27: Katana
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
"Is that.. a Katana?" Mirai asked, her eyes were sparkling.
The four there were confused, how to react.
Her eyes shined brightly as if she was excited.
Now, this was unexpected.
Maki Zenin looked at Mirai — is she real?
Megumi just stared at her, he didn't know what to expect.
Yuji and Nobara were just.. clueless.
Maki made a bored expression and scoffed "yea, it is. What's with that face? "
Mirai..
She opened her mouth but.. nothing came to her lips.
She was hesitating.
But then, she asked, "You can use a katana? "
Her cheeks were burning red as she asked that.
What was going on here?
Maki was taken a back.
Then scoffed —
"Isn't it obvious? "
No one knew why Mirai looked so excited.
It was unexpected.
Yet, Mirai had always been— unpredictable.
Mirai bit her lips.
Her hands at the back, intervened tight.
But then,
She finally spoke
"Can I.. use it?"
Huh?
Huuh?
Maki snapped— who does she think she is to even ask this?
She is a non-sorcerer, how can she ask something like this?
Maki could see the sparkle in her eyes.
But some excitement isn't enough to make her give her katana for a 'try'.
"No. "
She said and turned around,
"Now, let's go. We don't have time to play. " Maki said and started to walk.
All three started to follow Maki.
Leaving Mirai behind.
For the first time.. they saw Mirai.. making a sad face...
Nobara and Yuji felt guilty, they weren't expecting this.
But they just followed Maki.
Mirai didn't say a word, just looked down and behind her back, her hand held her wrist tight.
As they all walked..
"Uh.. Maki‐senpai. " Nobara whispered.
"What is it? " Maki made a distant face, just walking, her face just looking ahead.
"Can you not.. let her just.. hold once? " Nobara asked.
Why should Maki? She is not some friend of Mirai.
She has nothing to do with Mirai.
So, why would she—
"Zenin-san! " Mirai's voice called out.
They all looked behind.
Maki was annoyed.
Mirai ran to them,
Her eyes were with determination
"Zenin-san, how about this? We have a match, if I win you will let me hold your katana once!"
Is this woman.. real?
Maki felt irritated.
"And why should I accept your challenge? I have no reason to—"
"Please! " — Mirai requested, her eyes sparkled.
Maki felt even more..
Why should she—
Just then,
Seeing the eyes of Mirai.
She smirked and said,
"Fine"
This girl thinks she can challenge Maki?
"What match are you talking about? "
Maki can't wait to crush her.

Chapter 28: Enthusiast
Chapter Text
Tap.
Tap.
Tap.
The five were walking up the hill.
The tension was palpable.
Kugisaki Nobara walked crossed hands up behind the head.— unsure yet nonchalantly walking.
Yuji walked with Megumi— doesn't know what to expect.
Megumi walked along. His eyes never leaving Maki and Mirai ahead.
"Do you think she knows how to wield a sword? " Megumi asked, his voice barely audible. Only a whisper ment for Yuji.
"I... don't know. " Yuji replied, in the same low voice.
Earlier,
When Mirai had challenged Maki.
"What match are we talking about?" Maki had asked Mirai.
Mirai stood still, with the same determination
"A mock battle, with wooden Katana. "
Maki smirked hearing the challenge.
And so, here we are.
Going to a place where no one is around, so the battle can go on without interference.
But is it worth going to a hill?
They could battle in a ground.
Does Mirai know how to use a katana?
Megumi narrowed eyes.
As he watched Maki and Mirai walking ahead—
Maki Zenin didn't look interested.
But, Mirai— She was smiling yet her expressions were unreadable...
"I think this much far is enough. " Maki stepped on the land, this wasn’t too far.
But it was enough to have no interference.
The trees around weren't too many, just right giving them a space to move.
Mirai stepped in,
"Okay. "
Mirai nodded.
Maki set her katana bag nearby under a tree and the three— Nobara, Yuji and Megumi stood there.
Mirai placed her bag down and pulled out two wooden Katana.
Earlier,
When they decided the challenge.
The question came how would they battle?
Maki didn't had any wooden katana at that moment.
Just then—
Mirai said, "I have them at home."
They all looked at her— What?
"My home is nearby, wait I will go and get it. "
Now,
Mirai gave one bokken (wooden Katana) to Maki and took the other one for herself.
Maki looked at it.
"These look new. "
Mirai looked at Maki,
Then chuckled weakly
"Yeah, they are not.. new. I bought them a few years ago. "
Then she smiled weakly
"I just couldn't use them. "
Saying that.. Mirai looked at the bokken in her hand.
Her eyes showed.. pain.
Sadness.
But Maki..
"Fine, let's get over with this. "
Saying that Maki turned and took her position.
She was now sure,
Mirai is not more than a mere enthusiast.
And she has no time to spare for some enthusiast with no real deal.
"Come on. "
Maki positioned herself.
The three at the back looked not so surprised— already accepting that Maki would win. But.. still watched closely.
Mirai got up, a smile playing on her lips.
The smile still with the faint hint of sadness.
Yet,
The sooner Mirai held the bokken.
Her expressions shift.
" ! " Maki looked surprised though she didn't show it much.
Mirai turned to Maki.
Her hand raised ahead, taking the stance.
And her face..
Looked like a warrior.
Chapter 29: The battle begins
Chapter Text
Last time,
Maki moved taking the bokken.
"Fine, let's get over with this. "
Took her stance.
"Come on. "
Mirai who was kneeled on the ground pulling out bokken from her bag rose up.
Her expression was a simple smile with a hint of sadness.
She closed her eyes.
Inhaled.
And exhaled.
Her grip on the bokken tightened.
She opened her eyes.
Positioned her legs.
Hands with bokken ahead of her.
Her stance was perfect.
And her expression—
Of a warrior.
Maki and Mirai looked into each other's eyes.
Mirai, the supposed to be a enthusiast — didn't look like one anymore.
Her narrowed eyes, fueled with power, rage and..
So much more.
Like a warrior.
Maki didn't expect that.
Yet, Maki's expressions unreadable.
"You have a good stance, but let's see how you battle. "
Maki said.
And then—
The battle begins.
SWISH
Maki moved ahead, directly hitting the bokken.
CLASH
The force was powerful.
It won't be a surprise if Mirai's bokken had flung in the air, but it didn't.
Mirai took the hit well.
Didn't moved an inch.
Her expressions didn't change.
Now that's something amusing.
Maki pulled back,
"I didn't expect you to take that hit so easily. " She scoffed.
"But let's see if you can take this—"
She moved to again hit.
SWISH
" ! " Maki's eyes widened slightly.
Mirai dodged her.
And before Maki could see—
SWISH
Mirai swung her bokken.
CLASH
Maki endured the hit. But she got on the ground. — Is this girl really an amateur?
She doesn't know.
She looked at Mirai's openings — current weak points.
Mirai's legs.
Maki swung a leg.
Expecting her to fall.
But she pulled back and before Maki's feet could touch— She was already out of the range.
Her stance taken again.
Maki rose up from the ground.
A smirk formed on her face. — Now this is going to be fun.
She moved,
So fast
That the three at the back couldn't see where Maki go.
Mirai's eyes widened but, she kept her guard up.
Just then—
SWISH
Maki was next to Mirai.
Her leg lift to kick on Mirai's face but then—
THAK
Mirai rose her bokken in cross of that kick.
Enduring it.
Her eyes showed that she was trying,
Her body wasn't on the same page though.
It was difficult for her.
And then—
Maki took the opportunity and twirl jumped while Mirai was enduring that kick.
She was going to hit for sure this time.
She was—
" ! "
SWISH
Mirai kicked her out.
Maki didn't shake much but stood on the ground.
Mirai's strength wasn't good.
But her expressions, her reflexes and her way of swinging the sword
Screamed one thing—
She is not a weak.
She is a warrior.
Maki was liking this.
So, she moved ahead and attack again.
SWISH
CLASH
And then again CLASH .
And again another.
Their clashes were palpable.
As the three watching this—
Nobara was shocked. She didn't expect this.
"You are doing so good, Mirai! " She started cheering.
Yuji— he didn't know.. Mirai could hold her ground against Maki.
He for now, forgot. That she is an enemy.
And looked at the battle with interest.
And Megumi — he just watched. Carefully .
Chapter 30: Maki and Mirai's clash
Chapter Text
SWISH
CLASH
SWISH
Mirai and Maki had been battling.
"You are good. "— Maki smirked while clashing the bokken with Mirai's again.
Mirai's eyes showed no fear.
Still the eyes of a warrior.
But—
she was huffing already.
Her body wasn't good enough to keep up.
The three watched them.
Nobara kept cheering.
Yuji was so into this battle.
And Megumi was queit, analysing, watching every move.
Inside Yuji—
The demon was watching.
His crimson eyes glowing under the darkness.
Not with interest but not with disinterest either.
Unreadable.
CLASH
Mirai started huffing heavily.
As she was enduring the force of Maki's bokken upon her's.
She was reaching her limit.
And Maki?— nowhere close.
Yet, Mirai was nowhere giving up.
Her eyes never leaving Maki's.
SWISH
Sweating.
Reading every move, dodging, attacking.
But, not everytime she could dodge— even if she saw the move coming.
And yet— Maki showed no mercy.
In the past.
SWISH
SWISH
SWISH
The young Mirai, 13, wearing Kosode was swinging her bokken.
Her hairs tied up in a ponytail as she practiced.
Her clothing was like a boy.
It was a green area, full of trees.
No high buildings to be seen anywhere.
No noise, almost as if it's not even our timeline.
Swinging her bokken for the 300th time today
RUSTLE RUSTLE
Sound from the tree nearby.
Her annoying friend was on that tree, Swinging upside-down.
"Say Mirai, why do you train everyday like this? Don't tell me you plan to work under some monarch. You know they you would be in trouble. "
He was bored seeing her swing everyday.
SWISH
"Hah! " Mirai swung her bokken.
CLASH
Maki endured it easily.
"You are getting slow. Is that all you got? " She smirked.
Mirai pulled back immediately.
Huffing .
Her loose hold on the bokken again tightened.
And she—
SWISH
Swung the bokken again.
In that greenery,
When he asked that with a bored face.
Mirai finally stopped her swinging.
Catching her breath.
He rose up and sat on the branch on the tree, looking at the fruit that the tree had.
Mirai looked at him, and started moving to the tree.
"Don't be an idiot, ghost boy. "
He looked at her, watching her as she started to climb the tree.
"I— " She reached the branch he was at.
"... don't train everyday to join someone. "
He started munching the fruit he picked from the tree and she reached out and plucked a fruit as she sat next to him.
"I do it. Because.. " She turned to look at the fruit in her hand.
" ..when I hold a katana. I feel like.. I can do anything! " She smirked looking at him.
CLASH
The battle between Mirai and Maki was still up.
Mirai, even though tired didn't look close to give up.
Maki liked the spirit.
And then—
Mirai started to run to a tree when Maki was going to attack.
She stepped on the tree's trunk.
Maki's eyes widened.
Everyone was watching closely as.. Mirai stepped another foot.
A true warrior.
She used her every last strength and reached the branch of the tree by running.
And back flipped— aiming right at Maki.
Maki— at the first moment just watched.
And the second — She rose her bokken ahead.
CLASH
Their bokken clashed.
But Mirai couldn't hold her ground from that flip and fell.
THUD
And lost.
She sat up immediately.. eyes wincing that she had fallen on her back and it hurts.
Maki just watched her.
Nobara ran to them.
Yuji too.
And Megumi followed.
"Are you okay?" Nobara asked.
"Yeah " Mirai weakly smiled and then —
Looked at Maki,
"You are really amazing! " She smiled — genuinely.
Appreciating Maki.
Maki looked at her, then turned away
"Of course, I am." She scoffed.
Nobara was amazed by Mirai.
And Yuji couldn't help but admire her either.
Mirai just chuckled weakly as she felt embarrassed and thanked them.
"You were actually good. To stand against Maki-senpai isn't easy. " Megumi couldn't help but feel amazed either. Though he didn't expressed it much.
Mirai thanked them all.
Smiling even though she lost.
"So, it gives you a sense of freedom, huh?"
He asked as he finished eating his fruit.
She looked at him.
And with ease he took away the fruit in her hand from her and started to eat.
"Hey! That's mine! " She shouted at him.
But he ignored her.
He sat quiet and then said,
"You really think you can keep this up? This katana and act of a boy. " he smirked.
His question came out of nowhere.
So she stared at him for a moment.
Her expressions unreadable.
And then— She snached her fruit back from him and said
"I said I can do anything. "
"Hey, I was eating that! " He tried to take the fruit from her hand but she pushed his face away and muched in the fruit.
She started laughing at him as he kept protesting.
Just like that their days were.
Teasing and laughing.
Remembering that..
In the darkness,
Sitting on the throne.
Sukuna's fist clenched.
His expressions remained unreadable.
Chapter 31: Potential of a warrior
Chapter Text
The wind was breezing.
And on the hill,
Mirai was on the ground, sitting, trying to catch a breath.
"You were so cool, Mirai! " Nobara said.
Nobara, Yuji and Megumi stood around her.
"Hehe.. thanks." She calmly smiled, but weak.
Maki stood at a distance as she saw her juniors unfold drama.
Annoyed.
But..
She looked at Mirai who wasn't upset over her lose.
But she.. she did look sad.
"How bad, you tried so hard but you didn't win. " Nobara made a sad face sitting next to Mirai.
Her hands on Mirai's shoulder.
"Huh? But weren't you the first to say she would lose?" Yuji said, blinking and confused like an innocent puppy.
" SHUT UP! " Nobara shouted at Yuji.
They both started to fight.
Nobara— all angry
And Yuji— trying to justify
But their clash is a fight.
Megumi just pinched the bridge of his nose in sheer annoyance that his two classmates are fighting like kids .
Maki sighed and left the four alone.
Mirai looked at both of them and smiled. — these two are so funny.
But..
In the bottom of her heart..
She didn't show but..
She looked down—
Brushing a soft hand on the bokken.
She was sad..
She.. really wanted to..
hold a katana.
"It's been a long time. " She whispered to herself as she stared the bokken.
Her hand placed on bokken softly.
Her expressions unreadable.
She sighs.
"There's no need to be sad over it. " She said to herself in her mind.
And looked up.
The sun was setting.
She has a lot of pages to draw for her manga.
She pushed herself.
And, stood up.
Just then—
"Hey. " Maki's voice.
Maki was looking at Mirai. Ready to leave but—
Why was she holding her katana in her hand instead of at the back in the bag?
Yuji and Nobara stopped the fight.
Everyone looked at Maki.
She rose her hand forth. The hand that held the katana. And said,
"You can hold it, once. "
Mirai's eyes widened.
She froze—
In disbelieve.
She just stared at Maki who didn't even looked bothered.
"Are you.. sure? But I lost—"
" You want it or not? " Maki cut her words.
Mirai couldn't understand— Why?
Why was she allowing her?
Then—
Mirai's lips curled into a wide smile.
Her eyes filled with a mixture of happiness and a hint of tears that were barely to be seen.
"THANK YOU!" She exclaimed so happily that no one was expecting.
She took the katana.
Her eyes shone bright.
Slowly, she drew the katana out of it's scabbard.
And the moment she took the katana in her hand...
Mirai looked like... she was born to be a warrior.
Maki's eyes widened.
The way Mirai stood there, the bright smile.
The hues of the setting sun were on her like they all stood beneath.
SSSSH
She carefully put the katana back into it's scabbard.
"Here. " She gave the katana back to Maki.
"Thank you for allowing me, Zenin-san. " She smiled happily.
Maki looked at her then at katana.
She took it back and said,
"You fought well. If you practice, your body might reach to the same page as you. "
She started to walkway,
"Let's go. "
Mirai just stared Maki, her expression unreadable.
The moon was rising up, it was turning dark.
They had just started to walk.
Just then—
Clap
Clap
Clap
The echoes of the clapping were heard.
Everyone looked ahead.
It was Gojo.
Right in front of everyone.
Mirai's eyes widened but composed immediately.
His eyes under the blindfold, staring only Mirai.
"That was a great battle. "
With his dangerous smirk.
Chapter 32: Post-battle
Chapter Text
The sun was almost gone.
The shades of the night were starting to darken the area.
"Let's go. "
Maki took her katana from Mirai.
Placed it in the bag, zipped it up.
And started to walk.
Her eyes fixed on the exit path ahead.
"Well then, it was a good battle. " Nobara said, taking a last look at Mirai and then following Maki.
The others started to walk too.
Mirai just looked at them and then was about to bend and pick up her bag.
The two bokken were in her hands.
Just then—
Clap
Clap
Clap
Echoes of clapping.
Everyone looked ahead.
And—
"That was a great battle. "
Gojo Satoru showed up.
With his dangerous smirk.
The atmosphere between Gojo Satoru and Mirai was chilling.
Yet, those who were unaware of the suspicions couldn't see it.
"Sensei, what are you doing here? " Nobara asked, not too interested.
Maki glared at Gojo,
"You were watching us?"
Gojo looked at all the students — acting to be just a annoying teacher passing by.
"Why not? It was a fun battle. I didn't expect you to take this battle so seriously. " Gojo said.
Maki made a annoyed face.
"When did you come here?" Yuji asked innocently.
Those students and the teacher—
They seem to be in their own world.
And,
In the opposite,
Mirai was froze for a second.
She wasn't expecting him to show up.
No.
She forgot he was following her.
Her grip on the bokken in her hands tightened.
But then,
She exhaled.
And looked at the bag below.
Kneeled down and started to put her bokken inside.
Zipping it up.
And soon, stood up.
She was full of dust, some minor bruises but nothing mattered.
And then—
Gojo looked at her.
"Hey, Yuji's friend. "
Mirai looked at him.
A neutral smile.
He is calling her that on purpose.
He by now of course knows— Mirai is not Yuji's friend.
It was a lie.
"I didn't know you could sword-fight. " he asked with a grin.
Here it comes, a simple question.
But actually — a trap.
Mirae weakly smiled and said,
"I didn't know either. I just liked katana and used to watch its videos. And.. "
She looked at Maki.
".. I most likely copied Zenin-san. And added the ideas I got from the videos I watched. "
She looked at Gojo.
What a convincing answer.
"So, you are a copycat, huh? " Gojo's grin widened.
Maki turned around and started to walk down.
"Huh, hey! Wait for us! " Nobara followed Maki.
Megumi and Yuji were starting to walk too—
Just then—
Yuji felt chills.
He stopped on his feet.
And turned around. To see..
The extra eyes of Sukuna—
Were glaring Gojo.
Chapter 33: Conclusion— not normal
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
It was starting to get dark.
The trees and land were darkening in contrast to the lights of Shinjuku they could see from up here.
Nobara and Maki were walking down.
Megumi and Yuji were going to too.
But the second Yuji stepped a foot.
He felt chills..
Chills running down his spine.
He stopped in his steps and turned to look at Mirai and Gojo.
"What's wrong?" Megumi asked in a low voice, looked at Yuji.
Couldn't see his face.
Yuji..
He could feel.
The extra eyes of Sukuna—
We open and..
Glaring Gojo.
"So, you're a copycat, huh?" Gojo asked, his grin was wide.
Almost as if mocking.
Teasing Mirai.
Wanting her to speak.
Mirai looked at him — slight annoyed.
Sighed .
"Huh? " Gojo looked at her.
She just walked away.
"Yea, I did copy her, sorry. "
She waved her hand in dismiss and walked ahead.
Never turning to see the reaction.
She passed by Yuji and Megumi.
Unaware that—
Sukuna's eyes followed her.
Stepping down,
Carrying the bag on one shoulder.
Step
Stepping
Step
Another Step
And so, she walked down
Out of the sight—
Just like Maki and Nobara.
As she walked and nowhere to be seen.
Suddenly —
Gojo's shoulder tensed,
Shivering
"Hm hm hm hm hm ha ha ha ha ha ha " and started laughing like a crazy man.
Megumi and Yuji looked at him.
The extra eyes, now closed.
"Sensei? " Yuji looked confused.
"That woman. She's seriously something." Gojo couldn’t help but keep laughing.
So amused by her.
And—
So intrigued.
He smirked— finally stopped laughing.
Everyone walked down the hill.
Back to the street of the city.
The lights were shining in contrast to the night.
Mirai bowed to Maki as she thanked one last time before leaving.
She smiled so bright.
And said "Bye bye"
And left.
She was in a hurry.
She had to complete her remaining pages before tomorrow.
Poor girl.
As she ran away, everyone watched her go.
Maki's disinterest face.
Nobara just waving a bye.
Megumi was watched.
Yuji— in his own terror but still managed to say a bye.
And Gojo— A grin on his lips.
Once she left,
Maki looked at Gojo.
Her eyes looked like demanding
"So, why are you here, anyways?"
He never showed such interest in any non-sorcerers.
Maki wondered if Mirai is special.
But,
Before she could assume any further —
"Oh that? " Gojo grins.
"That hill there, I sensed the presence of curses there. "
He started to stretch like he was trying to show off— As usual.
"There were reports of missing people there. So, till you guys had your little battle there. "
He chucked and showed a victory sign with a smirk
"I finished off those curses. And then sat on the tree and watched the battle. "
He was such a show off.
All the students blinked.
"Tch" Maki turned away— annoyed by this show off.
Nobara made a— eeeh annoyed face.
And Megumi?— What else could he expect.
Yuji— he is always amazed but today he's not in the mood. Just blinking at Gojo with a bored expression.
And then they all started to walk for the station.
It looks like—
Gojo needs to come up with a new plan.
To reveal Mirai.
So for now,
Mirai can enjoy the little time she has for herself.
Tap
Tap
Tap
Tap
Mirai was huffing.
She reached her building.
"Oh no, Oh no, Oh no! "
She ran all the way here.
Finally entering her home.
"I need to complete those panels asap! " She entered in a hurry.
Her home was a mess— As usual.
"If I won't get these done by morning. I won't be paid! "
The ultimate terror of Mirai—
"I won't will be able to buy that game!!!! "
She sat on her chair, in front of her pc.
Ready to draw.
Her hands full of dust.
Bruises.
As she started to work,
Just then—
Her eyes started to blur.
Darkness was coming forth her eyes.
THUD
Her head fell down on her tablet.
She fell asleep.
Maybe, tiredness took over.

Chapter 36: The odd feeling
Chapter Text
Heian Era, a time known as the Golden Age in the Jujutsu world. A time when curses and sorcerers were both with immense power. Immeasurable compared to the era in the present. And yet.. in this era, the civilians were the most kept in the curtains. Unaware that there are such supernatural phenomena going around.
Their lives were filled with war, clan, household and marriages to get an alliance. The way the jujutsu terms the monsters — Curses.... was unheard to the normal life in the same sense. It was simple to name every odd phenomenon as a "monster", "caught by an evil spirit", "Lord's punishment." or so on and on. It's a human tendency to name everything they can't understand or can't accept as the work of an evil spirit regardless of the reality. The concept of doing something 'out of the box' was a road people never looked at.. because.. it was the most difficult, barely anyone reached the other side and mostly everyone.... met a dead end.
A dead end... that every common person gave to those who were — the odd phenomenon.
Just like that one girl...
Under the beautiful rays of sun falling on the ground, it was a simple day as usual in the Shirakane household. Everyone doing their part.
"Big sister look! I finally did a perfect strike, did you see it? " A boy.. the 4th child of the family, Yoritsune, 8 years old — shouted with excitement. He was in joy showing his little achievements in Tachi (sword used in heian era) training as his big sister.. rather a mother than a sister to him watching sitting on the veranda.
She was beautiful, smiling as always, cute and yet just 12 years old herself, she combed the younger sister's hair to braid them. The young sister Reiko was just 4 and so excited for no particular reason, full of energy that she couldn't sit still for the last braid to go.
The big sister giggled as she said "Now.. um.. stop moving and we are just.. Done! You look adorable. "
"Hehehe, these look so cute, Big sister! Thank you! " Reiko bounced around.
"Huh! Big sister, did you not see my strike?" The young boy made a childish angry face.
"I did, Yoritsune. It was wonderful!" She smiled as she looked at him "At this rate you will soon be as strong as the elder brother.
His eyes sparkled "Waah? I can be that good?"
She giggled and said "Yes, just keep working hard" Her expressions shifted slightly as she started to look at the sky high above, still a smile but.. the eyes were distant for the moment "and.. you will one day be a strong warrior. "
Her expressions were silent.. the word 'warrior' had always felt odd to her.. it made her feel something.. something she can't define.. something.. when she spoke the word.
But.. why? She wondered. Perhaps she wants her husband to be like that? Because.. girls of that time only dreamed of a man. Yet, something inside her was telling that.. that's not really, she actually mayb-
"Big Sister Miyako! " Yoritsune called out.
"Ah yes?" She snapped out of the thinking and looked at him, startled but smiling.. she was slight embarrassed; she even entertained such thoughts.
"Would you... " Yoritsune's eyes sparkled ".. try a strike with this bokken?"
"B-Bokken? no that's- " she was shocked he even asked something like this. Women don't touch a sword it's-
"Please big sister!? " Yoritsune's eyes widened and sparkled as he pleaded.
"Uh.. um.. I.." She looked nervous.. trying to look away. Just then,
"Tachi! Tachi! Try it Big Sister!! I want to see too!!" The young sister who just heard came bouncing and excitedly requested.
"Re-Reiko, you too? Well... "
Both little kids looked at her with big sparkling eyes.. It was difficult to resist. But.. It's wrong for a girl to even think of a Tachi yet.. well these children didn't know..
She sighed and smiled with hesitation and said "Alright, but don't tell about this to anyone, okay?". The children nodded their heads quickly and Yoritsune passed the bokken. She took it with hesitation and then.. she didn't expect but..
When she took the bokken in her hand.. a weird feeling passed her nerves as the wind blew from the sides. Her eyes widened for that one moment, her smile was gone. Her heart started to race. Not from nervousness and uncertainty but from something she couldn't explain.. That moment was as if time itself had frozen..
A weird feeling...
Something she never.. felt before.
"Big Sister, try to strike like this! Strike!" Yoritsune shouted with excitement as he gestured how to swing the bokken.
She looked at him and then nodded "Yes."
And then..
SWISH
She swung a sword for the first time..
"Big Sister looks cool!" Reiko giggled.
Yoritsune bounced.
But Miyako.. she stood stunned. Unable to explain what she was.. Feeling.. What is..
Just then,
"Miyako! What is this!?" A voice pierced through with rage. All three looked,
"O-oka-sama(mother)??" Miyako was shocked.
"What is the meaning of this? Don't you know a woman must never touch a weapon?" The mother shouted, glaring at Miyako and then at the two children.
"Oka-sama I was just.. " Miyako looked down with guilt..
"Oka-sama, I-I asked big sister Miyako to—" Yoritsune tried to speak,
"Enough." Mother shut the kids and looked at Miyako again "Miyako go inside and join your older sister Akiko for the poetry. You too, Reiko, go inside. "
Miyako immediately passed the bokken to Yoritsune and with rush steps left with Reiko.
"And you, Yoritsune. Stop mingling around and practice. You need not act like a child and be like your elder brother. Understood? Now go and practice. "
"Yes." Yoritsune said.
Mother glared at Yoritsune and then left.
Later, during the poetry writing. The room was calm, no sound other than the writing of ink if anything. Miyako and her elder sister Akiko who was 16 years old— betrothed and soon to be married, were focused on their poetry. But.. Miyako still couldn't shake off that feeling of when she had held the bokken. That was weird.. too weird and unexplainable. Had she ever.. ever felt like this before? She doesn't recall. She looked at Akiko and then with a low voice asked..
"Elder Sister? Can I.. ask you something? "
"Hm? What is it, Miyako?" Akiko asked calmly as she worked on the poem.
"Um.. have you ever felt this weird feeling that feels like pulling you towards it? " She hesitantly asked. Akiko looked at her and tilted her head "Pulling you.. towards it? Are you talking about dreaming something? ".
"Dream?"
"Of course I dream. My dream is to marry the man father has chosen. Ah.. he's so strong and good-looking, you know?" Akiko looked up as she dreamed of her fiance. Happy dreaming. But.. Miyako looked at her with a "Eh? ",
"No. Elder sister.. I don't mean a man.. I mean, like something you want to... do?" She looked confused herself as she was unsure what she was speaking.
"Huh? What are you saying? What does a girl need other than a good husband and help her family?" Akiko looked at Miyako with nothing but confusion. Miyako was immediately taken a back, she said it's nothing and left. Was her sister correct? She wasn't sure, but isn't that a dream of every woman to be married? Maybe she should stop thinking and fulfil her duties.
Some days later,
Miyako was taking care of Yoritsune and Reiko as always.. giggling at the childish words of Reiko and Yoritsune's imaginary stories of fighting against a huge wild boar to protect his big sister Miyako from it.
Step step step
The faint footsteps were heard quietly approaching them..
"Miyako-sama" A serving woman showed up sliding the door. All three looked up. "Your father has summoned you."
"Oto-sama(father)?" Yoritsune looked confused, all the three were confused.
"Okay, " she stood up, gestured Yoritsune to look after Reiko "I will be right back" as she left with a smile and then a graceful walk as a lady should.
Following the woman to the father.
But that day...
She didn't know..
Ahead of those sliding doors.. was something that sparks and changes everything in her life...
SHIIIISH
The door of the room opened where father was sitting.
Miyako and the woman bowed, sitting with legs under them, a traditional way of showing respect to the head of the family.
"Ah! Miyako! Come in here, daughter." Father was happy. Mother was here too, she opened a bottle of sake and poured it in the cup for the father.
"I never had thought you would be an even better success than Akiko. Today, the family of the Hoganeshira clan.. one of the high nobles had sent a proposal for you. They offered multiple offerings such as an increase in our clan ranking, wealth and more. All thanks to your beauty and such tender nature to your siblings. " The father said as he laughed with happiness at the fulfilment of an asset he didn't think would bring such a high value.
"Oh my, they are richer than Akiko's fiance. But, Miyako is still 12. " the mother spoke.
"Yes indeed. Therefore, the Hoganeshira has asked her to live in as the lady in waiting in their house till she reaches 14, she has to depart in two days. Until she reaches 14, she is betrothed."
"Ah! Did you hear that Miyako? You are so lucky to find such a family. Aren't you happy? Our family is going to lift up from the title of middle level warrior family now. You must work hard. " The mother speaks in joy.
Both parents, and servants around.. were happy congratulating Miyako. Yet.. her face.. was neutral. Slightly shocked. Not from the announcement but...
A sweat rolled her cheek.— Why does she.. not feel happy?
After that announcement spread throughout the whole household, her siblings and everyone came to her as she sat in the hall of the woman quarter, little siblings giggling and sad, Reiko even cried when she understood Miyako would leave them, for her it's like parting from her mother. The elder sister Akiko was happy, giving some suggestions about how to be a 'good wife'. Mother and servants were packing her clothes.
It was all chaos on the outside.
And the inside.
Because, Miyako.. didn't react to anyone the whole day. Just sitting with wide eyes while everyone around ran from here and there, talking about love and family and everything ridiculous she couldn't even process.
Her only question in mind was.... "Why can't I feel.. happiness? I should be happy about this. "
But.. she had no answers..
Nothing..
And soon.. It was the night before her departure. Tomorrow she will leave. The estate was asleep, candles lit at places to keep some light. Yet, she was the only one awake.. just.. staring at the ceiling..
Still trying to figure her answer... then.. her mind drifted.. to her older sister's words "Huh? What are you saying? What does a girl need other than a good husband and help her family?" She knows her sister was right but.. why does it feel wrong? Is it...
What will happen if she.. marries simply.. As she is to do. It's that she would fill duties like... everyone.
Like her mother, her older sister, her sister in-law.
It will help her family... help them to have a rise in the political society.
It's best for everyone..
But.. is it for her?
Her eyes widened slowly as the thought about herself came out of nowhere and then she closed her eyes as she continued to think.
Is this.. what she really wants...?
She... if she marries then... she will become like her mother.. always taking care of everything yet no time for her own children.
She will become like her sister.. nothing is there in life than the husband, duty and family...
She will become like... her sister in-law who... has no right to speak other than asked.. known by her husband's name.. or the clan or the father...
No one takes their name..
No one talks to them without reason...
And she.. will become just like.. that.
Suddenly the feeling came to her heart... the weird feeling that pulled her close... the picture of Tachi... came to her mind.. and suddenly.. something in her spoke..
No. I don't want to live like that.
I can't live.. a life like a nameless doll...
I...
Suddenly she opened her glassy eyes, sitting up and staring at her hands in the cold mid night it was..
"I reject. To be a nameless doll." her mind spoke. Fists tight.
She stood up.. eyes sharp as if fire found its place in them. She tied her hair into a bun... and thought..
"I will write my own fate."
And that.. was the birth.. of Mirai.
I once in my sketchbook had made art of the obedient Miyako.
Chapter 37: The Damsel fallen under the wild
Chapter Text
Huff huff huff
It was past midnight, the cold air cutting the soft cheeks, she was breathing heavily as she ran through the woods. Her hair were tied in bun, dressed in one of the servants' clothes. A bokken at her side. She had never run like this, never had even run to begin with. But here she was running in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of this cold night. Tired. But her eyes burned with something desperate and something unimaginable.
The forest is scary.
But now that she is out, there’s no backing to it. She must run as far as she can..
Next morning,
“Miyako-sama, good morning. Lord Shirakane would like to have a word with you before your departure- huh?” A servant came to Mirai’s set of curtains behind which was her bed. The servant notice that her breakfast kept at the front of her curtains has gone cold, it was kept here in the early morning.
“Your breakfast is cold, are you feeling unwell?” One of the lady servants came to Miyako’s bed. She comes close to wake her up, and “Miya-” she saw the bed was empty.
Soon the word spread throughout the house, servants panicked and so did the Lord and Lady Shirakane (father and mother) and the elder siblings.
Miyako was nowhere to be found.
This was an utter insult. Just before the departure.
It didn’t took long for them to understand that she wasn’t abduct but ran away by how it was found that one of the servant’s one pair of clothes were missing and that her bed was neat enough in a manner that no one would think she is not in her bed. The elder brother Akihisa took the responsibility to find her and get her back. Troops spread in the areas nearby and searched for the disgrace before it’s too late. Yet, to their unknown was.. Miyako or now Mirai.. has made quite far, started the run in the midnight and till the first ray of the sun hadn’t stopped her. She was under a tree far in a dense forest, trying to catch a breath.
The slow faint chirps were heard.. Slowly she opened her eyes just to meet the harsh rays of sun directly into the eyes. She sat up and looked around.
The last night’s running flashed into her mind, she lifted her hands, both in front of her as she stared at them while they shone in the bright sunlight.
“..I really did it..” She said in a low voice that only she could hear, trying to believe what step she took.
“I.. really did it!” Louder this time. A smile came to her lips, a genuine one, her cheeks burned red. She stood up and bounced, happy about her achievement.
But it didn’t last long.
GROWWL
She shrunk to the ground, her belly was empty.
“Ow.. “ She had never been hungry before. But she looked up at the sky and told herself “No, I don’t have time to think. I need to move. ”
But the moment she looked at the full dense forest ahead of her.. Sweats rolled from her head. Her face got pale. She hadn’t realised last night but.. FOREST LOOKS SCARY!!
Did she really cross the forest last night? Her head starts to feel like spinning just to think of it, she had never been outside in a forest before and never without a guard when outside the house.
Now, she reminded herself again of her chosen path. She started to walk straight.
STEP
STEP
STEP
…
She stopped suddenly. A question came to her mind — Am I walking to the correct direction? Or.. was the Shirakane house that way??
Her face got pale, a sweat rolled her cheek — idiot. Should have got a map before running.
Just then,
RUSTLE RUSTLE
She heard the rustling of the leaves of a shrub nearby.
A wild.. Animal?
She stared in that direction, half trying to stay strong, half full of fear and the stance to flee.
Waiting
Watching
Should run?
Should stay?
She was nervous and then
GROWWWWL— A wild boar dashed!
“AAAAH!” She ran for her life. Away into the denser of the dense forest. The wild boar could never even catch up.
Then somewhere in the woods.. She huffed, a tear under her one eye as she stood against a large tree — That was.. Scary! How is she going to survive and be a warrior if she is this scared of even a boar.
She was trying to catch a breath when she heard her stomach growl again.. It was probably lunch time if she were home she could have eaten lunch by now..
She noticed there were a bunch of fruits on the tree. Her stomach growled even more..
“Oh!” She saw one of the fruits fall on the ground. She immediately ran to it and picked it up happily. But before she could take a bite..
“Wait, Oka-sama says.. Wild fruits can be poisonous. “ She stared at it with seriousness. Then her stomach growled louder.
She thought.. If she eats it.. She might die but.. If she doesn’t then.. She will starve to death. So.. that means she is going to die anyways. She smirks at the fruit though a sweat rolled her cheek, “Alright, lunch time! Thank you for the food-”
SSSSSSH
A snake near her feet.
Her face got pale, sweats rolled her head as she stood like a statue.
“AAAAAAAAAH!!!” She ran away.
And soon, it was already starting to get dark..
She was still huffing, every second she saw a wild animal she screamed more, not a moment to rest.
What should she do.. It’s getting dark.. She looked up at the tree..
She remembers her elder brother once told Yoritsune “When we are patrolling in a forest, wild animals can attack. If you are alone then climb a tree.”
She nods as she remembers that. Reaches out to the tree..
“Okay.. I can do it. “
She gulps and tries.
A few minutes later—
“Oka-sama… WAAAAAH!” She was already crying for her mother. She never had climbed a tree and her hands are too weak to hold her own weight. She is definitely going to die!

THUD
In a group of adult men, a boy just kicked one men down on the ground, cheek squeezed against the ground as the kid smirked and kept one foot on his back, hands held the adult man's wrists so tight up as if the arms of that man would fall apart.
"Say that again what you said, loser. "
The group looked at the kid with full horror as he smirked and pulled the man's arm tighter as if would torn them apart any moment.
"Ack- brat what do you think you are doing? Ah.."
"Hey! Stop it you idiot brat!"
The boy only smirked as he said "tsk. Sure. Once I break his arms. He himself said he is stronger than me, so can't I just test it? Eh?"
The group looked at him in horror, the man was in pain and finally started to cry apologies. And right before his arms could be rip apart, the boy let go and smirked at him.
"Lucky you. I'm in a good mood today. "
And he left. The group ran straight to the man to help him up. He just gave one glance in the back and walked out of the place "Pathetic weaklings.".
Then never looked back again, he had no attachments to these pests. They were all beneath him. Too obvious to make even a move, too weak and predictable that he doesn't even care. He moved out as he looked at a mice, he raised his hand and gestured a cut in the air. Suddenly the air formed a dark, blackish shape of a cut. But it went empty. The mice had already left.
The boy made a annoyed face,
"tsk. Still slow."
It was his unnatural power.. his cursed energy he had been trying to master, he always had physical strength so now it was that thing to master. He walked away, ahead. Until.. he heard chaos.
"hm?"
Two men probably guards or warriors with a Tachi at their sides were running after a dusty ragged clothed boy with lots of scratches and wounds.
"Stop right there! We were ordered to search for you!"
"Catch her!"
The dusty boy ran faster and suddenly took a turn towards him and
BUMP!
The dusty boy bumped into him.
"Hey what the-"
He got immediately annoyed but before he could say a word, that dusty boy pulled him behind the crates nearby as he was huffing. This was the first time the boy was ever pulled by anyone like this. He looked at the dusty boy as the boy peaked up to see the men gone from sight and then again sat back finally relieved as he let out a sigh.
"Hey, do you know who I am? " The boy growled.
The dusty boy immediately put a hand on his mouth and said, "Shut up. I don't care who you are or what. Be quiet. ", the dusty boy looked up and saw the men were again roaming around because of the noise this boy made.
Until then, the boy's eyes widened for a moment and again got back to normal. As soon as the dusty boy saw the men left and probably won't come to inspect here again.. he let the boy free.
The boy stared and then said in a lower voice then before "Who are you?"
The dusty boy doesn't reply and just was catching a breath.
"You are a girl. " The boy said, the dusty boy— Mirai's eyes widened and then immediately she shouts
"So what? Stop talking and don't tell anyone."
The boy smirks and says
"You got me into your mess without my permission and want me to follow your orders? Dream on." He gets up and in a loud voice says "Hey! She is here- Mmmph! mmph!" Mirai immediately pulled him down again and places a hand on his mouth.
"Didn't I- I tell you to be quiet? What is your problem?" a sweat rolled her cheek.
The boy gestures to let himself be free, she says she frees him only on one condition that he won't shout again and he nodded. He smirks again when free and says "Who are you, Rebellious girl?"
She was taken a back and then says "None of your business."
The boy only smirked, he never saw such a girl before and said "Tell me and I won't tell those guards about you. Or.. "
She was annoyed, she couldn't believe this weird guy and then finally spoke "Mirai. My name is Mirai."
The boy made a slight confused face and said "Mirai? That's not a name. That's a word. "
"So what? Th-that's my name! " She looked away.
Well, he wasn't wrong. In the Heian era the name Mirai did not exist as a name but only as word which means 'Future'.
The boy stared at her for a second and then smirked again "You are a odd one, you know?"
Here's a little Concept art of what I think Mirai might look like
Chapter 38: Unexpected Beginning
Chapter Text
Later, she was walking through a forest, trying to escape the village she was just about to be captured in. But to her annoyance.. There was an addition— the annoying smirking guy from earlier.
He was walking right behind her, arms crossed on the back of the head and acting like he wasn’t ‘following’ her.
“Hey, you keep ignoring me. Oi Rebellious girl! “
She kept walking ahead, trying to ignore him completely. But her patience was wearing thin— “What do you think you are going to do with that knife with you?” he asked as if teasing looking at the knife on Mirai’s side with her bokken.
“ You picked it up from the ground.” He laughed a little and said “Don’t tell me you are going to be a fighter or something, are you? Go play with dolls.”
"Will you stop following me!?" She finally snapped at him, not hiding her feminine voice. He already knows she is a girl so what’s the point to hide?
He only smirked seeing that he had such an effect on her. No one shouted at him before and he was enjoying this very much.
As for return, he stuck out his tongue and said
"Who do you think you are to tell me? Did you buy this road? " He just teased her more.
She grunted.. and in a low voice said “You…. “
She just with a “hmph” walked away ahead faster. Losing his sight and.. stopped only when her stomach rumbled again. She was hungry. It had been 3 days since she left her home, at first it was difficult to be in the forest but after a while she wasn’t scared as much as before. But.. she barely ate anything for all 3 days, and saw this village so hunger got her to enter the place and end up being chased by Shirakane’s men.
"What's wrong? Weak legs started to hurt already?" The boy's voice suddenly was heard. Her eyes widened, she thought she got him lost by walking away faster! She looked around to see where he was but he wasn't anywhere in sight-
"Up here! Can't see me?" He smirked, he was sitting on the tree, biting a fruit he plucked from it.
"You.. " Mirai was going to shout at him but her eyes went to the fruit in his hand and.. her stomach growled again— louder. She was embarrassed as there was silence between the two.
"heh. Hungry much, huh?" He smirked.
"No! I'm not." She shouted. Her cheeks were red.
The boy was liking that how much she was resisting. She sure seemed to have some pride, just like he has.
He smirked and jumped down from the tree. Landing right beside her. He raised his one arm as the hand held a fruit to her face.
"Here. You look like you're going to die." He smirked as he said that.
Mirai glared at him but couldn't resist so she snatched the fruit asap.
"You are not that bad." she said with a annoyed face along with embarrassment.
The boy laughed at her words and then with a dark smirk said "Am I now? heh."
Mirai didn't react much on him as her focus was on food in hand, she sat under the tree. "Thank you for the food!" and started to eat. The boy only watched her. His smirk was for now gone, as if calculating this girl in front of him. What a odd girl, having a bokken, full in dust and ragged clothes and a bad disguise but because of the dirt people seem to have a hard time seeing she was a girl except those guards who somehow knew this boy disguise was a girl. Just then, she looked at him
"?" - he was confused, why is she staring him.
"Well, what is your name, Ghost boy?" She smirked.
"G-ghost boy?" He was slight shocked, no one ever named him something this ridiculous.
"Of course! I thought I left you behind but like a ghost you appeared right on the top of this giant tree. "
His lips finally turned to his cocky grin again and he said,
"I'm called Sukuna."
Mirai's eyes widened, not that she ever heard the name, she never did. But because..
"Wait, that's not a name!" She shouted!
Sukuna smirked and kneeled on one leg as he got to her eye level and said,
"So what? You think you are the only one who can name yourself, Rebellious girl?"
Mirai was taken a back, her cheeks burned. She never thought she'd find someone similar to her and she laughed.. for the first time after so many days.
That was a chaotic meeting, yet, after this day… they started to travel together. None of them agreed or said they're going anywhere together yet both followed each other. Destination? Unknown.
A few days later.
Mirai and Sukuna had been walking since a few days. Taking stops every now and then, she used to try practicing with her bokken.. more like she was trying to mimic her brothers she used to see how they used to train in the past everyday. Though.. she wasn't good— Sukuna laughed at her weak stance very loudly, she used to snap at him!
But that was only sometimes that he laughed.. mostly he was kind of.... close to amazed that.. her eyes shone with fire and he in secret in day and at night used to practice on his own powers— his cursed powers aka cursed energy and cursed technique.
She had no idea that he had such powers.. she only saw him as a annoying guy her same age.
When Mirai was training and Sukuna was somewhere far she doesn't know but doing concentration for his cursed energy manipulation... Suddenly an old man appeared before Mirai... assuming she's a boy practicing with a bokken hidden in the woods. He was old.. winkle face... white hair.. maybe in his 60s or 70s yet with ease standing on his two feet. A retired old man?
"Oh ho ho. What do I see here? A young boy with a bokken in the middle of nowhere. "
Mirai looks up. Flinched suddenly seeing the old man, she hadn't even noticed the man's presence before he appeared. She tried to tighten her voice and her body language like a boy like she learned from being with Sukuna.
"Uh? How can I help you, sir?" Old habits can't be gone so easily, she couldn't help but have a polite tone to an old man even if she keep her voice slight boyish, I guess.
The old man stared her and then said, "My, where do we find such young man who speak so polite?"
The old man's hand suddenly reached behind him and took out a bokken.
"Young boy, would you mind if we have a little spar?"
Mirai's eye's widened and then immediately narrowed,
"What?"
The old man smiled and leaped to charge an attack already, Mirai moved side to dodge it. A sweat rolled her cheek..— she couldn't understand.. what was going on!?
"Haha, polite boy, won't you let this old man have a short little exercise? " The man striked again with his bokken.
Mirai was shocked and shouted in her mind— exercise!?
She for once forgot she is Mirai not Miyako and then her eyes went to her bokken. Her wide eyes of shock shifted to narrowing suddenly.
Old man's expression shift as he saw those eyes again.. the flaming eyes.. he showed a grin at Mirai trying to have a stance.
SLASH — the old man's bokken moved with ease against her and
CLACK — clashed with hers.
THUD
Her bokken fell on the ground as soon as the old man's sword hit it. Her hands are too weak to grip even a bokken tight...
She stared at her fallen bokken and then the smiling old man who kept his bokken in front of her face, close to her neck— a sign of defeat.
"My, I expected more from you, young man." The old man said as he kept the position still and staring her.
A drop of sweat rolled at Mirai's side..
"W-what do you mean?" She was cautious.
The man suddenly took his bokken down looking at it and brushing a hand on it before putting it back behind.
He said, "I saw you from far. Thought I should ask you for direction. But then.. I saw you train. It was clumsy but... "
He looked at Mirai and said,
"...your eyes when I look at them.. they had a odd shine in them.. you are born to be a warrior my child. "
Mirai's eyes widened.
"Therefore, I thought I must test you. I'm sorry if I startled you but I couldn't ignore.. those eyes. They are rare to find. I used to be in the main guard troops of the King of this land, now I'm old so I travel places to places sometimes for peace and sometimes for work. I need to reach the village ahead to pass a message of my Lord, may I ask where the village is if you know? "
Mirai stared him..
Her mind was blank. She had no idea what to think or say. A warrior and she? That's...
"Um.. " her lips quiler. She exhaled and
"Mister. If you don't mind I had something to ask." Mirai said with narrowed eyes and serious.
The old man for a moment was surprised by her sudden change of expressions and then smiled, "Of course."
That day Sukuna came back to her late at night, stretching his body as he walked to where she was. Mirai.. was standing in the center of the trees. Slicing the air through her bokken.
"Hiyaa! Hiyaa!" Still training.. Sukuna made a bored yawning expression but as soon as he noticed— her stance had changed. His eyes widened for a moment then immediately back to his bored act though.. he wasn't actually bored.
"Huh? You suddenly got a good stance for yourself. " then smirked "Did something happened while I was away?"
She turned her head towards him and smirked, back to her girl voice and said "I just found how to train correctly."
Mirai never told him the details, he never needed to know.
"By the way, I think I know where to be headed next." Mirai said.
Her tone and her stance both.. have gained confidence all of a sudden... A girl full of surprises indeed.
This was the design I made for Sukuna though I think I could have done better. Maybe will or will not change this design some other day
