“You’re really awake,” says MJ. Her voice cracks and, to Gwen’s astonishment, MJ begin to sob—huge, full body weeps. Gwen wonders if she’s still asleep. “Jeez louise, girlie. I can’t believe you’re really awake.”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” she rasps out, and there’s some more pain—her throat is raw and unpracticed. “Did I die? I kinda feel like I died. Or like I should have.”
