And there lay Grian. Asleep (though not deeply), curled in the corner of the couch, as though he were trying to get as far away from Scar as possible. Scar tried not to be disappointed, but he understood. They had barely known each other for two weeks, of course he didn't trust him yet. He hoped that would change.
Grian looked.. peaceful. The constant worry and stress he seemed to home during the day didn't mark his face as he slept. The blanket that he'd draped over himself has slipped down do his wings and arms were uncovered.
He turned on his side, facing away from Grian, and pulled the blanket up around his shoulders. Falling asleep was difficult, unable to get his mind off of everything. Hundreds of thoughts racing through his mind, all incoherent. He tried to just focus on the sound of the fan, the crickets outside, and his breathing. In.. out. In.. out. Slowly, eventually, he slept.
Waking up was slow and comfortable. The sun was just rising, soft light peeking between the curtains and hitting the wall. He drifted in and out of consciousness, no rush to wake up, savoring the comfort.
In the midst of the haze, he realized his arms were wrapped around something. It took him several moments to figure out what. Or rather, who.
Grian had somehow in his sleep made his way over to Scar and got wrapped up in a cuddle. Scar froze, unsure of what to do and not wanting to wake him. He worried that if he did wake up and found out, he would freak out and the progress they'd made (though minimal) would be completely set back.
Scar didn't think he could move without waking Grian up. Scar's arm was trapped underneath Grian, whose wing was resting on top of him. It was, admittedly, very cozy. Carefully, gently, Scar brushed his hand against Grian's feathers. They were rough. Dusty, whipped, and weathered by the elements and poor care. It brought a pang of sadness and, once again, relief that he was now here.
After some thinking, he decided the best option was to let Grian wake up and find out on his own, but with Scar still "asleep". That would let him think Scar didn't know and, hopefully, make him less freaked out.
He closed his eyes again and soon fell into a half-sleep, only somewhat aware of sounds and touch. After an indeterminable amount of time, Grian shifted, likely waking up. He could feel Grian try to stretch, then go still, staying there for several moments. Slowly, he inches his way out of Scar's hold, trying to escape without bothering him. Scar felt the warmth fully leave, and the release of pressure from the couch. Soft footsteps moved away, and a door quietly shut.
Scar stretched, then huddled back under his blanket. He could stand to sleep some more. And maybe it wasn't purposeful, but that one little act of trust gave him hope.
