It curls into the corner of the laboratory, wedged beneath banks of warm, humming computers. The fabric of its coat disguises its wounds, but cannot stop its blood from smearing across the concrete floor in wide red swathes where it moves. Its numerous wings shuffle as he kneels before it, and it hisses. The noise is old, primal; it makes Stan’s own wings twitch with the urge to flee.
“Hey, Sixer,” he says, instead, pitching his voice low. “It’s just me.”
What returns from the portal is not human, any longer.

Harry's trial before Fifth Year doesn't go as expected. Sure, he isn't technically expelled, but neither is he allowed to keep his wand or return to Hogwarts, and despite Dumbledore's newly acquired allergy to actually talking to Harry, he knows exactly what the headmaster's idea of "keeping Harry safe" will be. Refusing to go back to Privet Drive, Harry takes the first chance he can to enact his genius plan: to get money, get Sirius, and get out. To where? Well, he hadn't gotten that far. His plan fails at step one. Sort of. When he gets to Gringotts and realises he doesn't have a key, Harry learns a few things that he never had expected.
Not knowing where else to go, Harry returns to Grimmauld Place to consider where to go and what to do now that school isn't an option.

Wemmbu has never thought of romance as more of a childish selfish fantasy, especially in a place like this, where chaos and bloodshed ruled with an iron fist.
Now as he sits right next to Flamefrags, his long-time enemy/rival, planning a marriage he wants no part in. His marriage - a small part of Wemmbu's mind reminds him. Isn't that a strange thought? Wemmbu, the terrorist, is getting married.
The universe has some sick sense of humor.
His eyes flicker lazily around the room, in his hands, the details of their marriage contract. Lettuce is standing in the other side of the desk, looking incredibly smug. Wemmbu feels his blood boiling, wishing for a second that he was powerful enough to wipe that grin off the other man's face. Instead, Wemmbu's eyes flicker to their rival, at least, Flame looks as uncomfortable as Wemmbu. It's a poor consolation prize but is better than nothing.
Or, an AU where instead of execution, Lettuce uses an unconventional method to have the two strongest player under his control.

The initial weirdness and tension got better as little while had passed; he resumed breathing at a more relaxed pace, though still not at ease. His arms found more comfortable purchase around the man and there was something genuinely reassuring in the slow, gentle way Heavy patted his back.
Scout sighed. Much as he hated to admit, this was actually pretty nice. His muscles relaxed, frantic thoughts slowed down. For a moment he forgot all about his situation, the job, the war. All melted away under the firm touch, putting his mind at ease, even if for a short while.
