Chapter Text
“Elphieee!” Glinda calls into the silent void that is currently their new home. “Elphie! I need to go to the store!” She begins making her way upstairs, assuming that her wife can already hear her. “Do you want to come with me? Or do you need me to get you anything?” She asks.
“No! I'm okay!” She finally responds from one of the three rooms upstairs. “Come here!”
“Come where?” Glinda asks with a laugh.
“The empty room!” She calls. It’s the fourth bedroom they have. The other three have all been taken up. The one in the basement was quickly turned into a guest room, they of course took the master, and the third is serving as a storage room for the time being. But this last room, directly across from their bedroom, has remained empty aside from the extra shoes Glinda keeps in there.
The second Glinda steps into the room, Elphaba begins speaking. “I know what we can use this room for.”
“Great! What?” Glinda happily waits for her suggestion as they haven’t been able to agree on anything.
Elphaba begins gesturing around. “We can paint this wall a light green,” She walks to the opposite end of the room. “and then this one can be a pastel yellow.”
“Mhm?” Glinda decides to wait to shut down that Oz-awful color selection.
“Then maybe a dresser here.” She gestures to one side of the room. “Then a rocking chair here.” She hesitates for a moment. “Then a…a crib here.” She stands in the spot and hopefully looks back to Glinda, waiting for a response.
“A crib? Like? For a baby?” Glinda asks, holding a shocked look as she catches up to the moment.
“That is…” Elphaba strides back over and places her hands on Glinda's waist. “Only if you want one too.” She anxiously bites her lip. “I mean, we’re both in a good place with our careers and we have this entire house for just the two of us.”
“Who will carry it?” Glinda asks blankly, still reeling slightly. But her question tells Elphaba she’s almost on board.
Her eyes light up. “So it’s a yes? You want to have a baby with me?”
Glinda finally smiles, a sweet and adoring smile. “Of course I want to have a baby with you.” She utters softly, instantly melting Elphaba's heart. Elphaba leans in and presses a hard kiss to Glinda's lips. When they pull back, Glinda asks again, “So who should carry it?”
“Well… I don’t know.” Elphaba shrugs.
“You’ve been thinking about having a baby and you’re not leaning towards which one of us should carry it?” Glinda crosses her arms and raises her eyebrows in disbelief.
“Weeell…” Elphaba starts and Glinda playfully scoffs, of course Elphaba has probably already thought of every last detail and likely has a donor already lined up. “Just, taking our jobs into account… I’m on my feet all day and outside working and you… are not.” She winces. “Purely from a practical standpoint!”
“Elphaba.” Glinda steps forward. “If you want me to have the baby,” She reaches up and clasps her hands together behind Elphaba's neck. “Then just say that.” She makes sure her tone is light and welcoming.
Elphaba smiles back at her and takes a deep breath. “Galinda? Will you have our baby? Please?”
Glinda grins. “I would love to.” She pecks her. “As long as you promise to be at my beck and call.”
“Deal.” Elphaba takes a step back and outstretches her hand for Glinda to take. The blonde snaps her eyes down to Elphaba's hand between them and loudly gasps while she slaps it down.
“I just agreed to getting fucking pregnant and you are trying to shake on it!?” She screams in disgust.
Elphaba's eyes widen. “Oh my oz sorry, no! I just- I-“ She fumbles for an excuse but the steam coming out of Glinda's ears tells her it's best to shut up. She instead opens her arms and ducks down to wrap her arms around Glinda's waist so she can lift her into the air. She returns her to the ground and kisses her.
“I can’t wait to have a baby with you.” She mumbles against her lips.
Glinda lets out a content hum. “Did you ever think the annoying girl you met in middle school would be pregnant with your baby?”
Elphaba hums a sturdy, “Nuh-uh.” and kisses her once more. “But I couldn’t be happier.”
2 years later
While Glinda is picking up around the house, she can hear the sound of Elphaba kindly encouraging their one year old daughter to walk. “Good job baby! Biiiiiig step!”
Elphaba has the kid in front of her, with her little hands grasping onto Elphaba's pointer fingers as they “walk” around the house. They do it at every single moment they get. Elphaba complains that her back hurts from hunching over for so long but that isn’t stopping her from teaching Poppy to walk.
“She’s so close!” Glinda hears her yell from the dining room.
Glinda smiles to herself and steps into the room to see Elphaba hunched over and their daughter waddling out from behind the table. Elphaba then carefully slips one finger out of her grasp, letting her get used to missing some of her support. She wobbles slightly but continues on, heading straight for Glinda.
“Yeah, go to Momsicle.” Elphaba instructs her and Glinda crouches down to her level and opens her arms.
“C’mon Poppy!” She beams and Poppy lights up and screams with delight, slightly speeding up.
“Today is the day! I can feel it!” Elphaba beams at her wife who just smiles fondly and nods back at her. Elphaba then focuses back on the child and pries her other finger out of her grasp. The two of them stay dead silent as Poppy wobbles on her feet for a moment before finding some balance and taking a step on her own.
Glinda can’t help but gasp and Elphaba's eyes widen and she holds out her hands, ready to catch her if she falls. But she stays sturdy with her chubby arms bracing for a fall as she continues to take baby steps closer and closer to Glinda.
“C‘mon!” She waves her closer and Poppy once again lets out a delighted squeal. Then she wants her arms in excitement which sends her falling to her butt. Glinda finally lets out her ecstatic squeal and runs to scoop up the child.
“That was so good!” She kisses her on the cheek then Elphaba appears next to them.
“You did it!” She kisses her as well and Poppy giggles adorably. Elphaba grins at the kid and says, “You learned from the best.”
“Hey! I walked with her too!” Glinda feigns offence.
“She said Momsicle first, let me have this.” Elphaba takes the kid from her arms and raises her in the air. “Next stop, the Olympics!” She sets her back down and they begin walking again while Glinda fondly laughs behind them.
