Summary
Light has gone her entire life seeing the world as it is: in black and white, with shades of exquisite grey highlighting the city she resides in. Everything from the mundane buildings she passes on her way to school to her own well-kept straightened hair and round eyes — all presenting themselves as dark as sinful, pitch black obsidian, as light as pure, enlightened ivory, or somewhere in between.
All L has ever seen is a cacophony of brown. Shades of wonderful warm chestnut, soft and pleasant with captivating fawn undertones, hues painting up to the gingerbread sky down to the cold mocha ground beneath her. For the longest time, she admired the sweet coffee-like pigments that decorated her vision, but lately there’s been more; a bloody tint is clawing its way into her peripheral. Burnt russet, an equally concerning and baffling smear of sepia, gnawing into her field of vision.
What was once an innocent acknowledgement of her soulmate’s eye color is developing into a new mystery, and with the rise of the recent trends — the internet praising a mysterious new being called “Kira” and a string of murders that has the police desperately scrambling to locate the perpetrator — perhaps it’s worth looking into.
