If Shang Qinghua tilted his head and squinted, Shizun was probably the closest thing he had to a father figure. This was a pretty fucking sad state of affairs, considering Shang Qinghua hadn't been promoted until he was -- what? How old was he? Eighteen? Nineteen? Twenty, twenty-one, who even cared?
The point was that Shizun hadn't paid Shang Qinghua any individualized attention until he'd been, at the very least, a core disciple, and at that point, Shang Qinghua was pretty damn grown. When you were grown, you didn't need a father figure. When you were an adult, you outgrew fathers. You had to; you didn't have a choice. You turned eighteen and then your dad gave up the illusion that he ever wanted you to begin with. If you still needed a dad at that point, then you were pretty screwed, weren't you?
