Work Text:
As the Sun risen in hometown, Susie heard her phone ring in a familiar and annoying tune. She rolled in her bed, groaning and banging her head on the wall, begging for just five more minutes of sleep, she was having such a good dream that would be a sin not to finish it. Kris and her had found a huge pile of delicious and nutritive moss for them to eat and her alarm rang right when she took a bit of it. Susie reached for her phone and swiped that beep away.
Now with her phone in hand, she checked the time. 6:55 AM, way too fucking early for her taste, but unfortunately school was waiting for her. She almost wept at the thought of another boring ass class with that ball of nerves that was Alphys but on the other hand, going to school meant she would see Kris and Noelle, maybe later they could go to the Dark World and spend the rest of the day there. Susie raised from her bed, her knees going to her chest and getting up too quickly, almost falling in the process.
She went to the bathroom, washing her face and wetting her hair, combing it just a little to maintain her iconic bang to the side. Her apartment was too silent, her father either hadn’t come back yet or he already went to work again, so she grabbed her backpack and walked out into the hallway of her floor, taking the stairs and stepping out to the streets of Hometown. The air was cold today, but Susie didn’t felt it and just kept walking to school. As she walked, she noticed heart decorations in most buildings, red and pink paintings on some walls, making Susie very confused, even the entrance of the school was covered in hearts and huge banner that read “Happy Valentine’s Day”.
Susie suspiciously read the banner and tilted her head, trying to make sense of any of this. To her, today’s date was just a normal and boring date. Yes, all of the chocolate was very attractive and the gifts as well but all that would vanish the next day.
Walking into the classroom, she sat in her usual seat and lowered her head on the desk, closing her eyes just for a second. She noticed that Kris and Noelle weren’t there yet but it was still early so they would come sooner or later. As time passed, her other classmates and Berdly stepped into the classroom and sat, taking their materials and placing them on their desk. Everyone glanced at her in shock as they entered the room, especially the blue jay monster but none of them dared talk to her.
The human and the doe were still missing, Susie sighed as she grabbed her phone and quickly texted Kris, “where are u?”
She waited on their reply but Alphys’ voice called her attention, telling her to put the phone away as her class was about to start, her voice stuttering as she looked into her yellow eyes. Susie simply placed her phone in between her tights and waited for their reply, which eventually came in the form of “busy” and “can’t go today”. She began typing, asking where Noelle was and what did they meant by that. Kris quickly replied simply with “she’s sick, i guess” and “good luck today”.
“What do u mean?” Susie typed, tapping her nervous foot on the floor. A weird feeling began forming on her guts, almost telling her that something was wrong and that something was definitely wrong since they hung out together yesterday, there was no way for them to miss school, Noelle wasn’t sick and Kris was hiding something. They didn’t replied and went offline. Suspicious as fuck, she thought.
Unfortunately for Susie, all of her sleepiness had vanished with that brief talk with Kris and now she couldn’t even nap in class as she used to. Paying attention was really hard, especially when the person you’re supposed to pay attention to didn’t stop stumbling in her own words. The lesson was so hard to understand that Susie just placed her feet on her desk and leaned back trying to relax, almost falling in the process.
Eventually, the class was over after the most boring hour and a half of her life. It was recess time and she decided to stay in the classroom, there wasn’t much to do anyway, Susie couldn’t annoy Kris and vice-versa, Noelle couldn’t play Dragon Blazers with her and there was way too many people outside to enter the Dark World, so staying in the class it was.
“Oh, dear Susan. What a pleasure seeing you here!” Susie could feel a vein in her head pop when Berdly’s voice came near of her. “May I, in all my glory, sit with you?”
Susie thought in telling him to fuck off, but desperate times, desperate measures or whatever the hell people said. “Whatever. And my name is not Susan.”
“Of course, of course.” Berdly sat across her, in Kris’ chair and that upset her immensely, “So how are you doing, Susie?”
“’m fine.”
An awkward silence fell between them and under Berdly’s plumage, sweat was starting to form in his forehead. He cleaned his throat, trying to come up with a topic for them to talk about, but nothing came into his mind. “So…”
“So what?”
“Um… You know why Kris and my dearest Noelle didn’t showed up today?” Berdly asked nervously, making some of his feathers fall slowly to the floor.
“Kris said they’re busy doing Angel knows what and they said Noelle was sick.” Susie said as she scrolled though her phone. Berdly raised one of his eyebrows or whatever birds have and hummed. “What?”
“Noelle was fine yesterday. Did something happened to her? Did I passed something to her!? Did she passed something to me!? Oh sweet goddess of education!” Berdly began spiraling and Susie paid no mind, finding his desperation weirdly amusing. Both heard the bell rang again, and the teenagers return to the classroom.
The rest of the class passed smoothly for the most part. It was still boring as hell but at least, it passed quickly. Everyone was leaving after a long day, but right as Susie was leaving, Alphys called her name weakly, “What?”
“Um… C-can you p-pass today’s homework to Kris?” Alphys passed a paper to her and raised from her chair, “I noticed they weren’t here and you two are… close? So c-can you do it?”
“Sure.”
“Oh, g-great. W-well, have a g-good day, S-Susie!” She ran out the door, leaving Susie weirded out as usual. Stepping out of the school, she let out a breath of relief and the chilly air invaded her nostrils. The whole way to the Dreemurr household was somehow a hellish experience, couples publically expressing their love, loud and passionate declarations on the middle of the goddamn street, businesses offering discounts to couples, Ice-E’s had something call “Extreme Lovebomb” on their menu, a complete mess.
Susie was already pissed at the fact that Kris wasn’t by her side today and now she had to deal with annoying lovesick people. As she approached the Dreemurr’s front door, it suddenly opened and out of it, Toriel and that skeleton guy from the grocery store were heading out, hands intertwined. “Oh, hello, Susie!” Toriel kindly said.
“heya, kiddo.”
“Hey… You guys going out?” Susie asked hesitantly, eyeing the couple all dressed up.
“Well, yes! We have been planning this for a while now!” Toriel excitingly said, her soft fur bristling with excitement. “Are you here to see Kris?”
“Uh… yeah. Are they, like, okay?” She scratched her mane of hair, “They didn’t come to school today.”
“Aw, were you worried for them?” Toriel didn’t meant to come out as teasing but it did, making Susie blush a bit.
“I mean… kinda. Never saw them sick.”
“well, we have to get going. see ya, sus.”
With that the couple got in Toriel’s minivan and drive off to the town. Sans wasn’t a bad guy, she knew that but his puns were extremely aggravating, seeing them together was a bit hard but Toriel was an a smart woman, she knew what was doing, Susie just wished that she paid more attention to Kris. But their family issues weren’t none of her business.
Stepping into their living room, she slid her hand in the furniture that Tenna once was, seeing how much dust it had collected ever since that whole deal. She took off her jacket and tossed it on the couch, leaving her white tank top exposed. It was too quiet, as if at anytime someone would jumpscare her. Going up the stairs, Susie knew something was wrong, the whole hallway was covered in rose petals, the crunching sound made Susie’s heart beat even faster.
The petals led to Kris’ bedroom, she stood in front of it and knocked gently on the wood. “Kris! You there?”
Their muffled voice came out, “Yes.”
“Well, come out. There’s some weird shit going on, dude!” Susie looked down to her feet and shook off the rose petals stuck in her shoes. Inside Kris’ room, she could hear whispers and things being moved or dragged, “Kris?”
“Susie, come in.” Kris was just on the other side of the door, Susie heard them getting away from it.
The door was opened swiftly and Susie honestly had no idea what she was expecting, a corpse that Kris needed help burying it, a whole lab cooking drugs like that one TV show but their whole room covered in heart decorations, a picnic towel on the floor and food on it, Noelle laid across the towel with a rose on her mouth, posing and holding a seductive smile with her life was definitely unexpected. “Uh…”
“Am I interrupting something?” Susie asked with her eyes widened, her eyes switching between Kris and Noelle.
She stepped into the room and Kris closed the door behind them. Noelle was struggling to keep the pose, “You can stop, ‘Ellie.”
“Oh, thank the Angel.” Noelle got up from the ground and took the rose out of her mouth, dusting herself off a bit, “Hi, Susie.”
“Uh, hi, Noelle.” Susie was so damn confused, all that her mind could ask is what was even happening in this room, why does Kris’ room smells like lavender or whatever, was she about to get sacrificed? Noelle was wearing a nice green dress and Kris had their iconic green and yellow outfit but it wasn’t their sweater, it was their button up version and brown pants. “So… can someone tell me what is happening here?”
“It’s Valentine’s Day, Susie.” Kris answered in their usual monotone and stood beside the doe, grabbing a box of chocolates that were in their bed, “We did this for you.”
“For me!?” Susie’s mouth went agape, eyeing them and everything around on the bedroom, “Guys, you didn’t had too. How much it cost to do all this!?”
“Money is not an issue, Susie.” Noelle pronounced herself and giggled a bit, “You want to go first, Kris?”
Their face became red, looking away to their feet. Seeing that they needed a moment to compose themselves, Noelle walked up to Susie, standing confidently in front of her, she grabbed both of her hands and took a deep breath, “Susie.”
“Yeaaaah?”
“You are the most amazing girl I’ve ever met. You’re beautiful, kind, funny and brave. When I saw you, I thought that would be just a matter of time until that feeling pass but it never did, and then we started talking, we became friends and now…” Noelle sniffled a bit and let out a shaky breath, “What I’m trying to say is that… I love you, Susie.”
Noelle thought in kissing Susie’s lips but her body was already in movement to kiss her cheek. The girl almost fell on her back when she felt the doe’s lips on her, her words made Susie’s heart tighten and her legs felt more shaky than normal, their hands were still together but the hold was over when Noelle turned to Kris, as if she asked if they wanted their turn now.
Kris stood in front of her, almost passing out of nervousness. They never felt like this before, maybe with Noelle when they were kids but this felt a lot more intense, Kris couldn’t even look in Susie’s eyes, their hands trembling as they grabbed her hands. Kris looked to the side, to see Noelle nodding to them. The human couldn’t handle anymore, so in a sudden movement, they hugged Susie’s large frame.
“Woah, chill, dude!”
“I–I don’t know how to deal with this.” They said without looking at her, their head resting in her collarbone, “I didn’t liked you at first. Like at all. And then I felt like there was something more than a angry girl, like we could be friends, and then we talked and… I fell so hard that it hurt me, every time I saw you, my heart ached because I thought you wouldn’t want someone like me.”
“Kris…”
“Let me finish, damn it.” Their red eyes appeared through their bangs, “But I realized that maybe, just maybe, if I tried… you could see that you are the best person I’ve ever met, I would gladly die for you, Susie.”
“Jeez, dude, really intense with you, huh?” Susie chuckled as she wrapped her arms around Kris, lifting them off the floor.
“You don’t like it?”
“Dude… I love it.” Their foreheads touched as they laughed. Both of them heard a forced cough right beside, they looked at the doe waiting for them to finish their moment, “Uh… Whatcha doing standing there? Come here!”
The three of them hugged and stayed there for a while until the human and the doe broke it, both of them looked at each other and nodded, holding Susie in her place, getting on the tip of their toes (and hooves) to kiss Susie’s cheeks. She laughed as her face became a light shade of blue as she reciprocated their kisses, Noelle almost fainted when she did that, Kris maintained their composure but inside they were celebrating wildly.
“Ugh, okay, enough of the mushy stuff, can we eat now?!” Susie had already sat on the floor, picking a apple and biting the whole thing.
“Aren’t you gonna say nothing to us, Susie?” Noelle smiled as she crossed her arms and Kris imitated mockingly.
Susie blushed and said as she finished swallowing her food, “Yeah, yeah, I like you guys too or whatever, now let’s eat!”
Kris sat across Susie and began to eat like an animal and seeing this as an act of defiance, the purple dino began a competition between them. Noelle watched them and thought they had a long way ahead of them.
--------------
"So when did you plan all this?" Susie said as she sipped her soda.
"Noelle forced me." Kris said pointing at her, "I just wanted to do a letter."
Noelle simply covered her face with her hands and screamed in her mind.
