Two Kryptonians and Their Pet Cat

Summary:

AU where Marinette is a Kryptonian and falls in love with both Chloe and Kara

Loosely based on Borne of the Stars by Silver White Raven, which I think is a crime that it wasn't finished.

Don't know if I'll finish THIS but that's why I'm making it a slice of life with minimal plot (ideally at least, though it'll probably sneak in anyway (the curse of being someone who loves reading)).

Notes:

So, a few notes before I begin:

1: I don't have the foggiest idea what's going on in most of the original stories. I also don't have a handle on most of the batfam. If you don't see your favourite character in the list, they probably won't be joining. It has been 7 years since my sister watched DC super hero girls and most of my experience with mlb is via other AO3 works.

2: Criticism: extremely wanted. This is my first fic, and any and all advice is wanted. I'd rather it be nice but this is the internet so go wild.

3: Smut? Not happening. This is my first experience writing fanfic, I don't need it to be my first experience with that as well. Maybe I'll do it later, but it'll be in a separate title if I do. I'll provide links in the note sections to that (If I remember).

4: Pacing: probably gonna be really weird for the first 5-10 chapters. They are planned to be a 'Marinette gets therapy for France' bit, so the plot should stabilise into a 'threat of the week' type thing when we reach the end of the therapy section. You'll be able to tell how long that'll take because I plan for there to be one time period per chapter, which will get closer and closer to the modern day, unless a few sections happen to be really, REALLY short.

5: Lila: She'll show up near the end of the therapy section and then drop out of the story permanently. I intend for this fic to be as sweet as Grayson's coffee (he seems like the kind of person who would have it exceptionally sweet) and she would get in the way of that, so she has no comeuppance. Marinette just moves on.

And finally: I really, honestly, truly hope you enjoy my writing. See you later!

Chapter Text

Marinette doesn't know where to start processing everything that happened to her in the last 8 years. A LOT happened and she really hasn't had a chance to deal with it. At all. Fortunately her girlfriends (yes, plural (she isn't quite certain how that happened either)) sat her down after moving with her to Gotham (weird how this is somehow better than Paris) with a therapist (the famous Harleen Quinzel, how did they manage that?). Harley told her to take it slow and start from the beginning. Also Kar said she (Harley) knows about her (Kara's) identity (that explains how they got her then) so probably don't worry about the superhero stuff. Also no more NDAs surrounding the Paris thing.

That seems like a good idea. Maybe. Oh whatever, maybe this'll help.

Marinette Dupain-Cheng (age 10) was in Metropolis. It had been a week since they arrived, and it was nearly time to go back to the bakery. The bakery, by the way, was getting renovated, hence the vacation. She was sat outside the daily planet, sketching designs whilst her parents were getting coffee. The most famous building in the city was great inspiration.

Then, suddenly, something struck the globe on the roof of the building, causing it to start to topple. Marinette only noticed because she was looking straight at it, it was nearly silent. Everyone else (not fashion designers staring at the building) was blissfully ignorant of their impending doom. Well, Marinette wasn't going to have that, now was she.

'Move, look out, it's falling' she yelled at the traffic.

Her voice carried surprisingly well over the cacophony of midmorning traffic. Chloe always said her voice was piercing. She supposed it came in handy now, because people did, in fact, try and get out of the way. Albeit, not very successfully, in some cases. She saw a teenaged boy with his headphones on, totally unaware of what was happening around him. She jumped over the railing, ran across the street and shoved him into the front door of the daily planet, just in time for him to not be squashed by some rubble. Of course, she also had to jump back quickly, and was soon buried in concrete, but that was neither here nor there.

Soon enough she heard Superman talking to Supergirl.

'I've apprehended the threat, are there any casualties in the rubble?'

'No. Only minor injuries, and one girl completely trapped over there. Totally uninjured, just stuck. I'll help her, you deal with the threat.' Wait was that HER Supergirl was talking about? Was she about to meet Supergirl?!

Marinette was quickly dug out by Supergirl, who gave her a once over for injuries before frowning contemplatively. 'Ok I'm going to need to speak to your parents. Are they around?'

'Oh, um... over there?' Marinette points nervously. Why couldn't she be cooler when talking to her heroes?

Fortunately Supergirl didn't seem to notice, as she swept Marinette off her feet and flew her over to her parents. Marinette, startled, blushing profusely as they went.

Supergirl did notice this, asking 'Are you ok?'

'Yes... Uh...' Marinette gestures vaguely towards herself, and the fact that Supergirl does still have her in a princess carry.

'Oh you are a cute one, ain't ya?'

'mm' Marinette squeaks, covering her face in embarrassment.

Having arrived at her parents, Supergirl proceeds to ask a few questions about her childhood, and any meteor showers she might've been involved in. Her parents say they don't know, since she was adopted at least twice and she didn't have a birth certificate when they adopted her this time. They found her after they delivered some pastries to a client, only to discover them dead of a cardiac arrest (they didn't know that at the time, but it's what the doctors said) and confirmed that she did have some scarring.

It was then that Supergirl dropped a bombshell. 'Yeah, you might want to get that checked out. She does still have the meteorites lodged in her body, after all.'

'What?!' That was both her parents.

'But... why did you have to talk to my parents for that. Why couldn't you just tell me?' Marinette was vaguely distressed by this revelation and was upset that Supergirl hadn't told her faster.

'Yeah, sorry, I just had to make sure this was actually a freak accident and you weren't some kind of plant to attack myself or Kal.'

'So... you didn't trust me.' Marinette huffed, pouting. She was still being carried by Supergirl (for some reason) so she tried to look away.

'Aww it isn't your fault, sweetie. I was just being cautious. Here, let me make it up to you.' Supergirl puts Marinette down and produces a card (from... somewhere? It didn't look like her suit had pockets) that she tucks into Marinette's jacket pocket. 'Don't loose that, alright. Call me whenever, but definitely after the surgery. I'll bring a box to safely put the kryptonite in. Also just call me in general, if you feel like it. Now, I'll see you later, alright?'

And with that Supergirl took off, rocketing into the sky like... a rocket?

That day was how Marinette learned she could weaponize cuteness.

Present

'Rocketing like a rocket? Excellent use of simile there girl' Kara smirked.

'Oh shush I was 10'

'Wait is THIS why you suddenly became so much harder to bully when you came back to America!' Chloe sat up from where she had been purring on Marinette's lap. 'You manipulative little...'

*Marinette gives Chloe puppy eyes*

'Oh it's all right.' Chloe calms down, 'Wait...'

'Carry on, Marinette, what happened next?' Harley prompted.
