Work Text:

Shinobu does not cry. The tears she should shed are exchanged for the irremediable anger that accumulates within her.

A turbulent storm that extinguishes her melancholy and transforms it into fury.

Her sadness has turned into hatred.

So she doesn't know why she is crying. It was as if the bubble of hatred had burst, leaving behind an endless black rain.

Salty drops falling from her face. She hated this sadness, but what she hated more was the cause of it. The same one that disguised it with a cordial smile, just like the one her sister Kanae always had.

Her hatred, her sadness, her feelings. Hidden behind an insincere smile.

"Are you crying?" Giyuu's calm voice resounds in all her inner turmoil.

"It's raining, Tomioka-san," she forces herself to smile despite her wet cheeks betraying her.

Remembering the desperation, the cries of the victims for the loss of a loved one. Because of the demons.

That always generated a hatred that didn't stop growing, but it reached the point where that hatred generated fruit. And those were the tears of helplessness. Because no matter how many demons she kills, somewhere there is a victim and it's too late.

"It's not rai..." he begins, but Shinobu doesn't let him finish.

"Don't contradict me, Tomioka. If I say it's raining, it's raining," her voice sounds broken.

Giyuu looks at the sky without a single cloud, only the bright shining sun. He remains still, next to her, not knowing what to say or do. He doesn't know how to console someone.

After a while, the body of the Insect Pillar trembles from the furtive sobs that she can't stop shedding.

"What are you doing?" Shinobu asks, looking up, noticing that her head is covered by Giyuu's haori.

"Covering you from the rain."
