      author takes a really methodical approach to keeping weather and setting in mind. the constant snow of the northern kingdom is emphasized by logistical difficulties, clothing, trade, animals and beasts that appear in it-- each region has its own associated weather as well.

      I think the most promising thing to find in a work is synergy between components, and this fic has that down pat. Detailed locations emphasize the emotion in every scene, and back up the idea of the demon realm being a complex, massive place with different social moors all over. Characters all have their own unique ways of speaking that emphasize their personalities and social classes, with care being taken w/ the honorifics/self referral nouns.

      overall everything contributes to author's take on a fleshed-out, less comedic interpetation of SVSSS world. I think when I really fell in love w/ this fic was when SQQ made an appearance; never seen cumplane written like that but it works so well!!! manages to drag both of them down to a more messy, human genre of story, making their flaws/hangups really evident without outright character bashing or taking either side.

      AGH bro it's so good. The way John is handled is literally the best anyone's ever done it, and the choices of who to give POV slots are genuinely INSPIRED. This fic digs its fingers into all the best characterization spots for each character too, it's soooo good. A must read for supernatural fans.

      I've seen this fic around a lot, but I only just read it. To anyone in the same spot: this fic is a very easy read, even if you don't know shit about what we do in the shadows. There's a lot of great jokes, an easy to follow plot even if you don't know who the fuck nandor is, and it resolves pretty well.

      This fic has absolutely wonderful pacing and direction. The POV site just behind the eyes, the narration focused mostly on the physical world in a way that gives the fic the most delightful mix of vivid, easy to follow scenes and intense yet muted emotional subtext. The epitome of 'show don't tell'.
