Tommy loved Phil’s wings. They were glossy and soft when they curled around his shoulders, they sounded like a whisper when they rustled together, and they were beautiful. Tommy would brush up against them whenever he had a chance, and Phil never complained.
And then one time he had offered for Tommy to help him with Preening.
Tommy wasn’t sure what that was, so he asked. And by the stars did he wish he hadn’t.
No Phil, he did not want to help pull out your feathers. No matter how much you insist it doesn’t hurt.

“Hello?” The voice called again. “Tommy? You up yet? Dad made pancakes, you don’t wanna miss it.”
There were a lot of things wrong with that statement. Not just that Tommy had no idea where he was and didn’t know this person, even though they were speaking like the opposite was true. No, the main problem was that Tommy didn’t have a dad.
His parents gave him away as soon as he was born. He’d been passed around the foster system for most of his childhood until, just two months ago, he’d gotten emancipated. With the little money he’d had, he’d moved into the apartment he currently lived in.
Point is, Tommy doesn’t have parents and he certainly never has the money for breakfast or pancakes.

After getting emancipated from the foster system at seventeen, Tommy is convinced he’s going to spend the rest of his life alone.
That changes when one day, he wakes up in a different dimension, one set in medieval times, one with magic, and more importantly, one where he has a family. Despite the fact that Tommy never existed there in the first place.
Miscommunication, hurt/comfort, and found family occur.

“The-seus,” the villain sang tauntingly, taking slow, calculated steps toward him. Broken rock crunched beneath his steel-toed boots. “C’mon, I know you must be exhausted by now, little hero. Why don’t you just put down those kitchen knives of yours and we can have a civilized talk?”
His voice was light, almost like he was attempting to calm him down while so obviously lying. Like he hadn’t been seething in rage only seconds before. It almost made Tommy feel sick to have that faux comfort directed towards him; he’d seen the camera footage; he’d seen the autopsies; he’d seen exactly what happened to every poor victim that Siren had directed that croon to.
Siren must have sensed his unease, tilting his head to the side, like he was some sort of interesting bug. “Aww, come on now, there’s nothing to be worried about,” he grinned, the white of his teeth glinting in sword light. “We just want to chat! What are the heroes up to nowadays when they aren’t trying to ruin all of our fucking plans?”

Tommy shifted, tears dripping from his face to land on Techno’s neck, blood smearing with each drop of water. It was so warm here in his brother’s hold, just enough to set off the instincts tucked away with the wings in his back. He couldn’t help but let out a small chirp, thanking his protector for the safety he was gifting him, mind unable to focus on anything else.
It was like a dam had been released, and Tommy’s instincts suddenly took control of his body. Because that was it, wasn’t it? This was his protector. His brother. The one to keep him safe, and always had and always would. He chirped again, just to voice his satisfaction at his protector being there, comforting him through the injuries covering his skin.
Techno flinched at that, much to Tommy’s confusion. Was he unhappy? Had Tommy done something wrong?
