Detective Richard "Dick" Grayson has a great deal of respect for the Capes of the country. Typically, they did a lot a good in the cities they worked. He, after being adopted by Billionaire Bruce Wayne and kidnapped for ransom a couple times as a kid, had even been rescued by Gotham's local hero the Black Canary and her partner Osprey. But that was a long time ago. The abductions stopped when he left Wayne Manor at the age of sixteen and the world seemed to have forgotten about the eldest son of the eccentric billionaire.
Or so he had thought.

After the death of his parents, he had a plan. He had resigned himself to a life alone in the dark and shadows. But then Dick came into his life. Then Jason. And now, here is was, up at the crack of dawn to celebrate the thirteenth birthday of his youngest son. There were plans in motion, surprises in place, and Bruce was happier than he had ever imagined he would be. It was a shame someone else had plans that could see him losing everything.

It's rare when Batman lets him patrol on his own. He understands why, especially after what happened to his predecessor, but doesn't mean that he won't take advantage of the fact that tonight Batman and Corvid are elsewhere. Robin is thirteen. He's supposed to do dumb stuff like street racing random bikers through Gotham. Just his luck (bad, obviously) that the Red Helmet Guy had something a more sinister planned than a little racing.

Gifted the use of one of the Wayne's many vacation properties, an isolated house on the coast of North Carolina, Dick plans to enjoy a few days of sun, surf and quiet on his own before Jason joins him.
