Summary
Now, in this gray zone between leaving his profession behind and clinging to it because it was all he knew how to do, how to live, he struggled to enjoy things people around him had always taken for granted. The taste of gourmet food. The scent of clean country air, free of the ubiquitous taint of car exhaust that plagued the cities. The meandering curve of the coastal road that he had driven to get here, to this secluded beach house. The feel of the breeze in his hair. The soft grains of sand cascading around his bare feet. The orange and lavender hues of the sunset on the horizon. The sight of his wife beside him, her gauzy dress flowing around her legs.
He still viewed the world in grayscale, like a silent movie from decades ago. She was the one spot of color in his field of vision, the vibrancy of her life slowly suffusing the air around her, drawing him in like a frostbitten traveler to a warm hearth.
-----
Given a brief reprieve to get away alone, Twilight and Yor take the last steps to bridge the chasm between them.

“Back in Berlint,” he began after a while, “we talked about having more children one day.”
“I still want to. I meant what I said back then, that I would love to have children with you. And I already know you’ll continue to be a wonderful father.”
He smiled gently and held her close. “And you’re already the best mother in the world. I’m relieved to hear you still want kids. I do too. But is there anything that makes you hesitate?”
-----

Summary
“Secretary Sherwood, I presume?”
Ever aware of her surroundings, Sylvia had sensed the former SSS officer’s attention on her throughout the boisterous reception. Cocktail in hand, she turned to greet him.
“Sylvia is fine,” she said with a wry smile, and offered her free hand to shake.
The corner of his mouth quirked as if sharing an inside joke. They both knew her embassy job had only been a cover. And it would be rude to remind him of her current title—Deputy Director of the Westalian Intelligence Service, the second highest rank in the parent agency of WISE.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you in person, Lieutenant Kruger."
-----
After peace is won between East and West, some dividing lines still stand. With her star on the rise in Westalian politics, Sylvia Sherwood can afford precious few personal liberties. Least of all, the company of a former SSS officer who hasn't quite given up the hunt.
