Summary
"“Yes, Buck,” he says, one hand gripping Buck’s shoulder, leveling him eye to eye. “He got a little banged up on that rope rescue, he just went in for a chest x-ray. We didn’t even need to transport him. Just drove him over.”
Buck’s face didn’t loosen – still completely screwed up tight, full of worry and consternation, the same as it is every time Eddie gets hurt. Doesn’t matter how much or how, well, not much.
“You promise?”"
or; Buck panics about Eddie being in the hospital but finds something else to panic about instead

Summary
"Eddie wakes up gently, greeted by the soft pale light of his bedroom in the middle of the night. The clock at his bedside reads 3:07 am and, for the first time in a while, doesn’t judge him for coming face-to-face before he was supposed to. Everything is quiet and kind at this hour of the morning, with the sheets he picked out himself and no memories screaming back at him—not today.
He takes a breath and closes his eyes, curling his bare arm around his blanket and up to his pillow, when he feels the bed shift beside him. A bolt of heat runs through his belly, but it’s not fear, he hears himself say. It’s good. Warm. Another arm, a bare arm, wraps around his left shoulder, around his chest to the right one. The arm glides across slowly, fingertips dragging down across his collarbone, before finding purchase and purpose. The hand squeezes Eddie’s shoulder and pulls, and Eddie feels small and treasured, like a teddy bear."
or: Eddie has a really nice dream. And then wakes up.

Summary
"The ride to the scene is tense, since getting the rundown from dispatch. Buck can still hear it in his head.
A mass-cas event, a bus got hit going 80… jumped the barricade and got hit by oncoming traffic… still on fire, rolled over into the ditch on the side of the road. Looks like it was one of those airport buses, going from LAX to downtown.
Getting stuck in traffic going to Los Angeles International Airport is the bane of all Angelinos, but getting stuck in traffic, sirens blaring, on your way to a devastating medical scene has to be a special level of hell. "
or; Christopher gets injured and asks Buck for what he really wants.

Summary
Buck sneezes.
The entire team is huddled around Bobby on the grounds of the University of Southern California, trying to hear his incident rundown over firehoses, sirens, and cries for help— and Buck sneezes.
"Bless you," Athena replies.
"Two more and you're cut off," Chimney quips.
"Sorry, guys," Buck croaks, wiping his hoodied forearm against his nose. "Cap?"
Bobby shoots Buck a slightly concerned Dad Glare, but continues on anyway.
Buck shouldn't be here, necessarily. He knows this. He's been sick with a stupid cold for two days. No amount of socks and hoodies seem to help, but that doesn't stop him from trying. Chills, aches, and mucus coming out his nose and down his throat, making talking just slightly to the left of miserable.
But when a biohazard incident put his friends, his family, in danger? Of course he's here. There's nowhere else he'd rather be.
or; Buck attends an emergency while on a sick day, and it turns out to be a good idea

Summary
'"Have any of you been back since they rebuilt this place?" Ravi asks, eyes aglow at the refurbished Santa Monica Pier all around them.
Buck's ahead of him, feet heavy against the wooden boardwalk, on his way to the street performer who passed out, Hen and Eddie just behind him, med bags in hand.
"Eh," Chimney shrugs, hanging back with Ravi, "I guess not. I love a kitschy tourist trap just as much as the next guy, but the pier isn't really for me."'

Summary
"It's like, I don't wanna die, you know?"
Buck takes a long drag of a lukewarm beer, setting the empty bottle down on the thick, sticky bartop. "But sometimes I think it might be easier."
The bartender, a tall, leggy blonde that reminds Buck, fleetingly, of Lucy, flicks her eyes up to look at him from where she's doing dishes behind the counter. Her eyes flick back down to the glasses in the sink before she responds.
"Easier than what?"
or: Buck's got more friends than he thinks he does

Summary
When Maddie's morning cup of decaf is interrupted by a persistent knocking at the door, she just knows it's Buck. Buck, her beloved baby brother, her pearl of great price, the biggest pain in her ass, having what is, no doubt, another crisis about his love life. Is it Tommy? Is it Eddie? Is it Taylor Goddamn Kelly?
Who knows. Truly.
She slowly pushes away from the kitchen table, forever grateful that her toddler, who would not have slept through this incessant banging, is already at school. Her belly, now at just over eight months, tilts her forward, causing her to waddle like a penguin across her living room and towards the noise.
She grips the handle and starts talking before she even opens the door.
"I told you, Buck, you've just gotta tell him--"
But it isn't Buck.
or: Maddie gets a visitor

Summary
A cup of coffee hits the table with a gentle thunk, snapping Eddie out of his thoughts.
"Ravi's right," Buck admits softly, sitting down across from him with his own cup of coffee. "I'm usually the one bringing in strays." He tilts his head to the side, leaning forward, like he would if Eddie were a scared little kid they'd found on a call. "You doing okay?"
Eddie starts to reach forward for the cup of coffee but pulls back, running his hands through his hair instead. "Yeah, Buck," he starts, like a liar, "I'm fine."

"A backflip. He injured himself trying to practice a backflip.
Not that Eddie's much better, with his knife wound and black eye, but at least those weren't done in service of being sold like a head of cattle at auction."
