“Please, everyone has a scar on their side. Raise your hand if you have a scar on your side.”
Bob did not realize how his participation could backfire on him until every single person in the room raised their hand and somehow, he was the one they all looked at. He slowly lowered his hand back down to his lap, dropped his gaze to his book as if he hadn’t paid attention to their banter at all. Unfortunately, he was not half as subtle as he wished to be.
The odds of everyone raising their hands were high, which was why Bob joined in—he expected it to be funny. He did not expect the joke to be thrown back at him when John said, “All right, if Bob’s scar is cooler than mine, I’ll concede.”
The Thunderbolts start comparing their scars and Bob starts spiraling.

“You okay?” asked Yelena.
“Yeah,” Bob answered instinctively. He hesitated before he corrected himself with, “I’m trying to be. I just… I’ve been covering up my arms for years, you know? And between that and everything the serum did to me, I— it’s like there’s a disconnect somewhere. I know it sounds weird, but I don’t feel like my body is mine.”
With the Thunderbolts' support, Bob tries to stop hiding his scars from himself. It's harder than he expected.
