Set during the period of time after the ill-fated visit to Maxwell's that forces Ernest Donovan to leave Los Angeles as a merchant sailor, this piece explores a portion of his time at sea.
This story takes place in the late 1930's. The character makes some broad cultural and ethnic conflations and assumptions that are not acceptable to us now, but which would have been perfectly normal for him to think at that time. The writer is well aware of the differences, now vs then.

Summary
Episode 1.05 gave us that wonderful trip to the desert and that heartbreaking conversation between Maggie and Ernest. We learnt a little more about the relationship of those two - and I wanted to explore what would happen if not only Maggie were needy. Because I think Ernest does want her in his life - he doesn’t like to choose.
