Shikata ga nai (仕方がない), pronounced [ɕi̥kata ɡa naꜜi], is a Japanese language phrase meaning "it cannot be helped" or "nothing can be done about it".

Shikata ga nai—it cannot be helped.

It is the marrow of existence in the Borderlands. At some point, you stop asking why you're here or if you deserve it. It doesn't matter in the end, because you are here whether you deserve it or not.

People die. Friends betray you. The world here is cold, indifferent, and immovable, and no amount of tears or rage can alter its course.

Shikata ga nai—it will never be helped.

The game demands sacrifice, and you are its dutiful servant. Their death ensures your life. Their blood buys you one more moment in twisted purgatory. This is the only life left to you, and it is as inevitable as the sunrise and just as cruel.

    Summary

Where were you when the world came to a screeching halt?
    When society crumbled to ash?
Where were you when order and structure dissolved into complete and utter chaos?
Where were you when the dead began to rise?

Bad news tended to create lasting memories.
It was why some people could remember clearly the exact moment they found out the world had ended. Some found out in the safety of their homes while watching news stories of people being torn apart and eaten alive. Some found out in the rioting streets as chaos ran amuck. Some found out, first hand, as they watched this virus, or act of God, take a loved one away from them.

Bad news tended to create lasting memories, yet Evie Smith couldn't remember a single, damn thing.

In the end, it didn't matter where you were when the world ended. Hell, it didnt even matter who you were. The dead ruled the world now and they craved living flesh regardless of who it belonged to.
The real question now, the only question that even mattered anymore, was this:

Who were you going to become?

    Summary

Threads Chosen, Not Woven is a character-driven mha series about scraped knees, late-night soba, and the families we choose when the world leaves us behind.

It follows two emotionally repressed kids quietly learning what it means to be cared for. Wakatsuki Nanami, an unlicensed child medic with more sass than self-preservation, and her unlikely bond with Todoroki Shoto. But this isn’t just their story. As they grow, new threads are pulled, bonds are tested, and quiet moments give way to something deeper.

Spanning early childhood to the beginning of UA, this series explores healing and found family, balancing humor, heart, chaos, and the messy beauty of learning to stitch together a family of your own. Not every thread is easy. Not every bond makes sense. But some things are worth stitching together anyway.
