John would like to make it clear that he takes breakfast very seriously.
This is why when Bucky ambles down the hallway on silent— and god, would it kill the guy to make a little noise?— feet after everyone else had scattered from the breakfast table, John puts on his best glare and points wordlessly at the plate he’d reheated for the second time.
He frowns. “Look man, if you’re just not in the mood for it I can make you something else. You gotta eat more than that.”
There’s an annoyed knit between his brows as Bucky glares down at his hashbrowns, pushing around the greasier meats on his plate. The only thing he’s managed to eat so far was the english muffin and eggs. “No.” Bucky says, “it’s fine.”
John’s about to say “obviously not” when Bucky scoops some hashbrowns into his mouth and immediately blanches.

“I searched up what happened to my sister once, that first year when I got out of Hydra.” Bucky swallowed, glancing his way briefly before directing his gaze down to his lap. “When I remembered her.”
Sam felt himself gentle at the admission, chest aching at the thought. There was so much Bucky had lost, so much so that sometimes it was like the man was made up of it. The unfairness of it all got to him sometimes, how one man could be subjected to that kind of thing.
If what happened to Bucky happened to Sam, he wouldn’t even know how to go on.
"Yeah?" He said finally, voice soft. "How'd that go?"

“I have no idea!” says Bucky. “I—I opened the door, and she was there, and there’s a bunch of other stuff—shh, shh honey, it’s alright, it’s okay—”
Sam goes to the still-open door, keeping the shield up and covering his center mass just in case anyone’s about to attack. He peers carefully up and down the hallway, but it’s empty save for a baby’s car seat or carrier sitting on the floor, along with two huge mint-green diaper bags and…a bouquet? With balloons? The balloons, Sam notes with confusion and dawning alarm, say CONGRATS! IT’S A GIRL!
“Who the fuck left us a baby?” asks Sam.
Sam and Bucky never planned on becoming dads. It turns out that life, and Zemo, have other plans for them.
