A low, tired, guttural laugh filled the air.
"They didn’t tell you what I am, did they, angel?" Chan’s voice carried a bitterness and resignation that Felix didn’t understand, so he leaned closer, pressing against the door. "Do you believe in vampires?"
That sent a chill down Felix’s spine. In fiction and fairy tales, they existed—he had read about them a few times—but those stories never reflected the reality that people like them had to live.
