Summary
A vast land stretched out before him, shining in the light of the midday sun. To his left, a small river trickled down from an ancient stadium, complete with a small bridge arching over it. To his right, a stark castle overlooked the wheat fields that he hadn’t spotted earlier, 3 towers stretching like fingers into the sky.
“Wow…” ___ breathed out. He’d never seen anything like this before!
He leaned back against the spokes of the crown, admiring the sun and the whisper soft breeze, when a quiet voice broke the quiet.
“4c? Did you come up after me?”
He startled, twisting around. From the shadows of the cliff materialized a curled up figure, a green hood pulled low over their head until just a hint of their ginger hair peeked out. The rim of their hood shifted back slightly as they looked over at him, and mossy green eyes met his.

Summary
He reached out for it, fire curling around his palm, and the darkness of limbo melted away as swiftly as it came. Color bled back into the world, and Abolish was standing in the cathedral he’d once called home. Phantom memories meant he heard the siren call of the organ playing, the low hubbub of chatter and voices even when there were none present. The footsteps behind him were entirely real, however.
“Young master,” two familiar voices chorused out. “Welcome back. Lord Thorn is waiting for you.”

It was easy, and that’s why it was so hard to lie to herself. If it was difficult, it would’ve balanced out. Of course, killing should be hard. Apo’s not a fighter. She never wanted to be. But then there’d be the screams, and the blazingly fast flash of light. The deep booms that never quite became background noise. Soot on her fingertips, ash on her tongue. There’s no way out of the guilt then, not even lies.

He hadn’t seen his reflection in, in- well. Since his partner. It didn’t show up easily in puddles or silver blades, and even now his mirror self wavered like a mirage, but it was there. It was real. He was still here. Avid suppressed the urge to laugh, then realized he had nothing to hide. Most of the village thought he was crazy anyways.
The helpless giggles dripped from his lips like desaturated blood, like he was crying on the inside, and as a doomed prophet would to the future, so came the tears.

Most kids with undesirable quirks dream of a place where powers can be gained and discarded like any other skill. Where you don't have to be defined by the power your parents passed onto you. Where everyone has the potential to learn to use any quirk they like, as long as they work for it.
But even fantasy worlds are plagued by the inherent unfairness of genetics, apparently.
