Summary
After the battle of the Hoover Dam the Courier finds themselves lacking in adventure after helping the remaining factions sort out their problems. In a hunt for something to do they convince the Boomers to fly them across the continent so they can travel from the East Coast back to the West Coast. So with Ed-e and Ulysses they fly their way to the East Coast but what is waiting for them there is unexpected to say the least.

The man’s eyes burned like embers. “Well, we’re going to save the Hero of Amestris, unlike you. We’re going to bring back the Fullmetal Alchemist.”
Edward Elric was dead. Like, fully dead. Heart no longer beating, massive blood loss, soul exiting this mortal plane, type of dead. However, that apparently wasn’t enough to make him stop existing. Ed just wants to rest goddamnit, but Truth is being a right bastard about the whole situation.
...
Or, Ed dies, but unbeknownst to his friends and family, his soul sticks around. He makes do for several years — until an alchemist performs human transmutation to try and bring him back to life. The crazy thing is… it works.

Summary
In unearthing the Nomu Factory, the Heroes and police of Japan discovered a body. This was not unexpected, but the nationality and uniform of the corpse in question… that was. Because this failed Nomu wore the uniform of Amestris, a war torn nation from the isolated continent of Atossa, where Quirks and modern electronics had never developed and never worked.
Edward Elric hoped he could retire from military service in peace, traveling Amestris while his brother Alphonse went to Xing. This is put on hold when now-Führer Mustang asks him to travel to the Outside, to the world beyond that was barricaded for centuries after the development of something called ‘Quirks’. A soldier has been killed and Amestris needs to know more about the Outside.

Or, Edward Elric and Amestris meet the greater world of Heroes and Villains. It remains to be seen who’s more traumatized by the encounter.

"Why are you doing this?" Shouta couldn't help but ask. Really, this kid couldn't be much older than his class, and he was already out his risking his life to fight... and was good at it. That was the worst part of all, that a child would act like an experienced soldier in the face of danger. "If you stop now, I won't report you. You can just go on home to your family, and maybe try to be a hero-"
A laugh cut him off, but it was more sad than condescending. "Mr. Trash Bag, I'm doing all I can to get home. But like hell I'll be a hero. I've been used by the government too much." A slight European accent colored his words, and his Japanese was a little hesitant, but the determination was clear. "I have to admit, though, your quirk is really awesome. The ability to stop others' energies... remarkable."
The boy tensed, and Shouta activated his quirk on reflex.
"Too bad it doesn't work on me, then. Can't erase what you don't have, after all!"
OR: Edward didn't want to help Truth. He didn't want to go to a different world to defeat yet another Father. He didn't want to be on the run again.
He also wanted his brother back. The choice was obvious, even if Truth is a massive asshole.
