Owen and Avid have been taken from their home, their pod, and their lives. They don't know what the humans want from them, nor how they're going to get out. But they are. Owen is going to make sure of it.
But when he finds someone he thought dead at the testing facility, and the horrible human doctor becomes one of the only people he can rely on... what can he do? He's a siren, yes, but they've made sure he's powerless at the Oakhurst Aquarium. He has a new pod to take care of, a human he can't bring himself to kill, and humans who want to kill him. Owen has been working ever since he can remember. Maybe it wasn't always laborious work, but working nonetheless. Now, he had eight years until he paid off his debt and gained his freedom, and things seemed to be going well. Eight years was a long time, but it would be worth it when he belonged to himself again. No chains, binds, or masters to bend to. He counted the nights with a smile.
When two strangers enter the Manor, he's not surprised. What does surprise him is their kindness. He's not foolish enough to believe he has anything they want, nor that they'd look twice at someone like him, but they were kind and powerful. He's not sure of their motives, but as time goes on, he knows they're different from the Baron. Different from Him.

Summary
The Doctor's heart was pounding. Louis had not ever heard someone sound so afraid before, but Louis could not think of why. Could not think of the blood on Owen's front, the red staining his teeth as he hissed a deep guttural growl at the Doctor, pale and ill looking and trembling with leashed violence.
"Owen," Legundo said, still gingerly kneeling, holding both his hands up and releasing Louis to do so. Louis was too tired after his previous struggle to reach Owen, could not take advantage and go to his love like he wished, but he called instead. A high pleading chirp that had Legundo flinching, although he did not turn to stare at Louis like he had before. He, like Louis, was not taking his eyes off Owen.
Owen, who was across the room from them. Surely if this was a dream, Owen would come here, he would not leave Louis cold and alone and hurting.
"Owen, I am not hurting him, please—"
"You're not leaving this place alive, Doctor. You've made a mistake, coming here, you and Avid both."

Legundo's Soulmark appeared the day he was drafted in the army. The name 'Louis' scrawled across the join of his neck and shoulder. It was already grey.
He had accepted the loss, by the time he made it to Oakhurst. Had other horrors that he carried with him instead. He didn't expect to meet someone there, who seemed to hate him by his name alone.
He just wants to help.

Summary
Every year, Scott and Shelby are incessant on throwing—whatever the hell they decide to call it now. A reunion type party between all the people who stumbled into the dreadful town of Oakhurst 2 centuries ago. Owen thinks the event is ridiculous, the fact they throw it annually only adds to the statement. Their vampires, a year to them is equivalent to a long month.
However, Legundo always seems to enjoy the gathering. Even if some years he’s spent bitterly bickering with Scott for a majority of the party, he always comes back every year. And always drags Owen along with him like a wet cat showing defiance towards a visit to the doctors. Huh, that was oddly fitting.
The date of it always manages to creep up on Owen until it’s too late for him to come up with some twisted excuse not to go. Not like anyone would buy anything he said, he would still be brought to the event no matter what.

Vampires are not the only long-lived creatures to walk among the human masses. They are not among the most powerful, either. Through trial and error, Owen finds out just how destructive something like the Doctor can truly be.
