“Would you like to see more rabbits?”
“You know how?” Wei Ying jumped to his feet, ready to chase after the other boy.
Lan Zhan looked at him. His face didn’t really move, but he seemed unhappy.
“You must be silent.”
“I know that! I already told you I did,” Wei Ying whined, “but they aren’t here anyway, so I won’t scare them off if I’m loud now!”
“You must be silent.”
Wei Ying made it over to Lan Zhan, who showed no signs of moving.
“Lan Zhan?”
“Be silent now, Wei Ying.”
Wei Ying huffed but complied. He really wanted to tell his Baba that he’d been able to pet a bunny when he came back. Silently, Wei Ying nodded. He smiled as wide as he could while keeping his lips pressed together.
Commoner Wei Ying never dreamt of a marriage to a noble. He may have dreamt of a life with Lan Zhan, but not like this.

Summary
Before he could even step towards the crib, A-Yuan began fussing. He roused slightly, his snuffling hitched breaths harbingers of auditory misery should Wei Wuxian not sooth the savage beast with music. Or was it the savage breast? Fuck but he would give anything to sleep.
Dropping his head back in defeat and an entreaty to any gods potentially watching, Wei Ying cast around for anything to sing. Again. That maybe wouldn’t make him cry. Harder. His cheeks were starting to sting from the constant saline exposure and lack of current skincare routine.
He sang Travelin’ Soldier by the Dixie Chicks, miraculously able to focus enough on the narrative that he didn’t cry. A-Yuan’s sinister, distressed noises quieted before the pretty little girl with the bow in her hair and the travelin’ soldier made it to the pier.

“That is good news,” Xichen nodded with a small smile, “What is the bad news?”
“His brother destroyed the book to create a collage, apparently.”
He wanted to respond to his brother this time, in some way. He just had no idea what to address first. What kind of ‘misunderstanding’ could result in ruining a clearly annotated book? What kind of person used a book to make a collage in the first place? What extent of carnage required the verb destroyed rather than used or damaged?

A wink from Xue Yang further disrupts Mo Xuanyu's equilibrium. "What's wrong? Don't wanna spend time with a delinquent like me?"
Despite being lightly spoken, the words are serrated, warning Mo Xuanyu to tread lightly. He eyes Xue Yang warily, expecting a trap.
"I…wouldn't mind," he finally says, slowly.
Xue Yang hops to his feet, light and limber, and extends his right hand to a shocked Mo Xuanyu. His grip is tight when Mo Xuanyu takes the offered hand, but Mo Xuanyu doesn't mind because it feels grounding and real in a way he can't quite articulate. Weighing his options for a private place to talk, the only spot that comes to mind is…
"My bedroom?" he asks, realizing too late how forward the offer sounds.
A knowing grin spreads across Xue Yang's face, making Mo Xuanyu prepare to backpedal, but Xue Yang just says, his eyes turning into crescents, "Sure! Lead the way."
