Summary
“What was he like when you were younger?” Jinbe asks, looking strangely intent as he stares at Ace. Ace stares back at him for a moment, before leaning his head back against the cell wall and smiling. Memories of him, Luffy, and Sabo running through the forest flash before his eyes, and nostalgia fills him. The months that the three of them spent together are Ace’s most treasured memories.
He grins, shaking his head and chuckling as he says, “Well, I guess if I’m going to talk about him as a kid, I should talk about my twin first.”
(Or: Ace calls Sabo his twin while in Impel Down and consequences happen.)

Summary
Ace took a long time to wrap his head around the idea of ‘soulmarks’.
Dadan did a shitty job of explaining, when he was little, and could finally put into words the confusion about the black lines on his skin. Gramps did worse, on his next visit, which meant Ace just put the whole subject into the same box inside his head labelled Shit to Not Talk About.
Sabo, though. Sabo finally helped him get it. And not with stupid tangled words, either.

It's in this cell that Outlook's child dies and Sabo is born. They'll never understand the wilderness underneath his skin.

Cleverly, the Commander hot on his trail leads him right into a dead-end.
"Listen, I don't know what I did to offend you but we can talk!" Empty hands raised up, he tries to placate the guy. It seems to anger him further.
"You don't know what you did?" A hand slams against the wall, freezing him in place.
"Sabo."
"How- how do you know my name?"
Or is it the fact that no matter how far you lose yourself, they'll never let you go?

"That's a bit arrogant." Ace squinted at his baby brother while his other brother laughed.
"How do you even know what that means?" he growled, and Luffy simply pointed to Sabo, who now looked proud. "Nice to see you're picking up a vocabulary, Ace certainly isn't going to learn." The freckled kid had a deep scowl and huffed.
"Vocab…ulary - does that mean all the words I know?" The blond nodded frantically, elated to know Luffy was taking traits from more than just Ace. "I want a big vocabulary like Sabo cus' he sounds cool!" One brother was certainly enjoying this more than the other.
"Well, I should start teaching you how to read anyways, might as well use it as an opportunity to expand your vocabulary. Ace's as well."
Luffy had sparkles in his eyes, bouncing on the balls of his feet at the thought of sounding cool like Sabo.
