“Not too close, he bites.”
Stiles snatched his hand away just as Derek had been about to lick at it. The snarl he got in response was not comforting.
“He what?” Stiles asked nervously, turning to Deaton.
The man looked a little amused. “Don’t worry, only if he doesn’t like you.”
“Well, he probably hates me, now!” Stiles insisted, turning back to Derek.

After the post-Void clean-up, the Hales leave Beacon Hills to track down Derek's former pack-mates who had fled into the night after escaping the Argents' torture basement. Stiles understands the reasons, but he hates it with every fiber of his being. Because he feels like he's lost his pack. He's not a wolf, but he's more wolf than McCall who runs his pack like a summer camp. With high-fives, pats on the back, and bro-talks. But that's not an Alpha. Not in Stiles's book.
Or Stiles is kidnapped, gets turned into a werewolf, and then gets spat out into the world red-eyed and angry. He builds his own pack out of mismatched scraps, broken pieces and disaster children.

Summary
He ducked behind a tree trunk once he’d put some distance between himself and the group, pressing his back against the bark as he took deep steady breaths. He waited for the shouting to start, for his name to echo through the trees. But when that didn’t happen, he reached up for the first tree branch above his head.
He used to think that he was born to climb. Back when he was a kid and didn’t know much beyond the fence of Hell’s Gate, he spent every day climbing the trees at the edge of the boundary. He climbed until it became second nature, and he’d reach for footholds on instinct. Now, he shimmied up the young tree with ease, the wet moss a bit tricky to navigate but he managed it.
He crossed between treetops once he was high enough, watching as the recoms finally pulled their friend free. A murmur shot up between them, and their heads turned quickly.
They were looking for him.
