    Summary

The apocalypse has come and gone, and against all odds, Pharloom remains standing. The time has come for Hornet to return to Hallownest, accompanied by friends and allies: Shakra hopes to explore the mythical land beyond the wastes, and properly lay to rest a member of her own tribe; Lace fears unraveling without the aid of a Weaver, while contending with the immensity of a future free of her mother’s threads; and the Green Prince lives only only to spite the Citadel, passively seeking a more honorable end than might be found in the rubble of his homeland.

Meanwhile, Hornet returns from Pharloom with magic and knowledge that might aid in the slow recovery of Hallownest and Deepnest–and perhaps offer the chance to call home the sibling she once thought lost to her forever.

Absolutely hilarious! Wonderful characterization and shenanigans and hilariousness.

The Matrix’s inclusion and nature is interesting, along with its influence / presence. Kinda like OFA from MHA. OP gets impressions of thoughts/emotions from past Primes, and other mechs if he tries(?)

    Wait this is hilarious XD
Jazz is constantly looking for angles and plots and goals in everything OP says and does, meanwhile OP is just… being a genuinely nice and simple guy lol.
Jazz just can’t wrap his head around the fact, it’s so preposterous and idea it’s never considereD, and so he keeps looking for political angles and personal designs that are just. Not there.

I love how Optimus is constantly throwing a wrench in Jazz’s plans by just being himself.
(And while part of me feels bad for Jazz’s concerns, the other growing part of me amusedly thinks he brought this on himself)

“He was still standing there several seconds after the door had closed, in a disconcerted funk, when it occurred to him that he was supposed to be attempting a seduction and he was now on the wrong fragging side of the door.
    XD
Jazz my friend I think you’ve been reverse-seduced.

Here lies Jazz, defeated by kindness and compassionate vibes. And Optimus’ Ridiculous need to follow societal convention and be nice.

Your Honor they’re both ridiculous and I love them.

“Nice shot, man!” Jazz yells, Bebop’s speakers carrying his voice.

The mech blinks at him and scowls. Which, wow, okay, it has a face. Mouth, eyes, a nose—the works. Well, one of the eyes isn’t lit up, but still. It can blink! Jazz couldn’t even get the clearance to have Bebop’s visor display emojis, and not for the lack of trying. Meanwhile, this guy gets a whole, expressive face and—holy shit, are those teeth?

Interesting, this version of Prowl is actually not built for battle (job is speed/tactics, which take processing power that detracts from fighting capacity)
“Realistically, TacNet sacrifices the speed at which he can move for the speed at which he can think.” <- Hehe I like this
Ooh, I like the voice the author is writing Prowl with.
(And the mention of it being not good to plug in unprotected to foreign cables is nice)
Oh! I like the door wing moving in a slow arc for monitoring! And the distinction in “ Prowl isn’t a hacker by Cybertronian standards, but he might as well be by organic ones.”
    Good world building tm
The detail of different countries have different style mechs is neat
I kinda like how Jazz isn’t immediately oblivious to / explaining away the differences of Prowl’s “design”. He acknowledges the differences and that he’s never seen anything like, and starts trying to place a country, though nothing quite fits

“ All Mark-III’s and higher have built-in life support systems that allow their pilots to go weeks without food, water or rest. If something’s fractured, bent wrong, sliced open or stabbed, the mech takes care of it. If you fall unconscious, you get a nice, stirring shot of adrenaline. If the pilot isn’t answering, that means they’re either already dead, or on the way to be and their mech’s life support is shot.”
Woahhhhh, I like this! Good ol’ cruel inhumane ways to treat your inhumane war machine pilots
Aha, the end to Ch. 1 is great! I feel usually it’s the human-in-mech who’s worried about being broken-into

Woah! I’ve never seen the human side be able to initiate communication before! And in Quintesson of all things. That’s so clever.

Writing- wise I’m loving Jazz’s voice too
I’m enjoying the presence of the fact that Prowl used to be an enforcer

Finally, a description of where the subspace compartment is (location of lower human ribs?)
I love how this is showing genuine reactions between guys who have just met. Usually these two are depicted a lot more buddy-buddy, even on first encounters.
    Here, their arguing is amusing

Ch. 5 holds very interesting conversations around governments and past roles
I like how this shows and gives reasoning behind Jazz’s reluctance to have anyone in his head
The mind meld of ch. 6 is fascinating
I am loving the backstory of Prowl in Ch. 7, and reasoning on how he, a cold logical enforcer, came to be loyal to the kind-hearted Optimus

I like how Ch. 11 shows that Cybertronians do not share the human brain pack-bonding thing where every creature can be Friend.

    Summary

Jazz is a small-time criminal broker. Against his better judgment, he agrees to fence a stolen tactical computer, but instead of a fancy mod, that ‘computer’ turns out to be a beautiful, amnesiac Praxian.

Jazz may be a criminal, but he’s got limits, and mecha trafficking is one of them. He frees the captive Praxian and embarks on a quest to help the mech regain his memory.

It won’t be easy. The mech’s kidnappers aren’t happy their prize was stolen, and looming overhead is the spectre of whoever commissioned that tactical computer, and their unknown intentions for its bearer.

Interesting worldbuilding and lovely characterization alreadyyyy

Jazz being created as a military construction thing with a poor vocalizer, so he saved and saved until he could afford a good one capable of singing 🥺

“Snuffed” also refers to getting killed, in reference to snuffing a spark. Interesting
“ The chromatophores covering Jazz’s plating darken to the color of shadow. His parastructure, the non-essential outer armor and bits related to his alt-mode, flows through a series of microtransformations that alter his recognizable outline from stocky construction frame into something sharper and sleeker. Jazz reaches into his subspace, retrieves his visor, and clicks the optical band into its mounts. It flickers to life after running diagnostics, casting a golden glow across the alley.”
“ The citystate of Polyhex is sunk into a three-pronged valley surrounded by spires and plateaus. Once its residents ran out of flat ground, their only choice was to build up, and the Polyhexians have been turning their city into a vertical labyrinth ever since, layer upon layer of overpasses, skyways, balconies and elevated plazas. In Polyhex, the best, most direct routes don’t need wheels. The Sideways Roads are open to anybot as long as they’re willing to take a brisk climb–assuming, of course, they have no fear of heights and a good grappler as backup if they crash through shoddy construction work (Jazz has both; frame-original even!).”

    Oooooh👀

“ mechanometers” I like this adjustment. This writer uses good vocabulary that makes sense

“ Polyhexians, accustomed to public spaces that pack them together like cubes in a crate, keep their fields flattened close to their plating. When Ruse reaches out with his field in the Polyhexian greeting, Jazz temporarily turns down his field dampener and extends his own field so they brush politely together. Ugh, Ruse’s field feels slimy, like touching the slugs on Raya IV–but not the nastiest field Jazz’s ever tasted, so Meister keeps his expressionless attitude.”

Gah! There are too many cool details and worldbuilding tips!

Primus’ blood” oh that’s a new one. ((Like I was saying! Cool words!))

This writer’s really good at action too

“ Flicking solvent in his direction, Jazz says, “Gimme your comm code,” receiving a response ping near-instantly. Tracer must have crazy processing speed.”
    Hmmmmmm

“ Mecha who can’t follow the Sideways Roads will hire a courier who’ll make the trip for them. Mostly, couriers are used for express deliveries and (more) smuggling. It’s dangerous but well-paid work, and it won’t draw too much attention. Jazz grins, checks his dim reflection in the stairway’s metal wall, and engages his new programming.”

Oooh, the no safety systems in the TacNet is interesting

“ Tracer exvents a shivery sort of whistle–he goes nonverbal when he’s stressed, Jazz makes a note–” :(

    {Reminder: Conversation partners expect a response in-kind and may become hostile if they believe you are intentionally snubbing them. If your systems are too strained to reply using voice or text, try apologizing later.}
    Awwww

Very interesting link - Enforcers work for and enforce the will of Primus (and focus on crimes against him), so Prowl is kinda religious(?)

    XD
I love the idea that Prowl sleeps deep, sleeps hard (features of the TacNet), and loves his beauty sleep.

The unique lore around Praxus is very interesting. Along with the interesting differences in our bots’ venting systems / preferred temperatures.
:0 Using the wings to cool down is so cool!

Very interesting cuisine. And! Intentionally or not, I’ve finally found something that acknowledges taste shouldn’t matter as much to Cybertronians as it does humans! Kinda sorta. But I like the idea the rich have to enhance their taste, and for regular people temperature and texture are used instead.

    -Ch. 3-
Ooh, I really like how this story does the TacNet. A suspicious mod that’s dangerous to the receivers and dangerous in capable hands. It was given to 3 others who each died previously, and potentially had been used in an attempt to dispose of Prowl for being too good at his job.
(I just really like the idea of the TacNet being a unique and dangerous piece of equipment (either as a weapon or too the user), as opposed to it being a standardized piece of equipment).
(Even if I suppose in this case what Prowl has is not actually a tacnet)

“Jazz trots out his skeezy suggestion over their evening fuel and does not get immediately smited for it.”
    XD
What an amazing concept, lovely characterization, and neat story. I enjoyed it greatly:)
