The request was for an exploration of the risks and consequences for gay men serving in the US military in the mid-1990s — peak season of the infamous “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy that resulted in so many dishonorable discharges for the ‘crime’ of being queer. Ash and Tonio burst into my brain to tell their story; I adore these two, and I hope you’ll all enjoy their journey through darkness and toward the light 💛

When he receives a strange assignment that has him bound for a month-long stay on a remote Scottish island, however, he begins to realise that everything may not be as it seems.

Anthony Crowley was going blind.
He'd been informed eleven months ago when it had become apparent his distance vision was getting worse and he’d reluctantly gone in to have it checked out. Ever since the shock had blunted, he’d been preparing. When the glasses no longer helped, he'd given up driving and sold his car. He'd taken up learning braille despite his near vision still being passable, just because he knew, eventually, he'd need to.
Thankfully, with over twenty years working at quite the prestigious law firm, he could even prepare for early retirement, a goal he’d already had anyway. He was in his late forties. If he could stick it out for a couple more years doing consultation, there would be enough money to go on for quite a while, (a good thirty, thirty-five years) if he was smart about it .... The point was, he'd planned. He could be okay. He would be fine.
Anthony Crowley had planned his future, in a minimalist flat he knew by heart and a world that would gradually lose its definition.
What he hadn't prepared for was a soft, gentle voice and a bright blur of pale features, and the yearning they would set off like a firework in his heart.

Ill-fitting as it might seem, though, the knight’s armor certainly isn’t the rough kind you might expect from someone who might’ve inherited a set rather than have one custom-made — it’s polished and intricately designed, with small snake patterns adorning the edges, carved in minute detail that Aziraphale can’t help but think must have taken so long, so much care to finish. It’s an armor of royalty, on a lanky knight who’s shown up alone at her gates with his steed.
“Hello,” she greets them, smiling a smile that’s likely a little too wide. She must remember her manners, she tells herself, and keep things perfectly polite.
There’s some shuffling then the knight straightens. “I… Well, I heard there’s a princess here, and a curse, and I’m here to break it?”
Princess Aziraphale has been living alone in a castle for a long time, with only her guardian dragon Crowley for company. When a mysterious knight shows up at her gates to finally break her curse, she thinks her fortunes might at last be changing.- Language:

When a mysterious stranger arrives at the inn, all wet and roughed up by a storm outside, and asks for a room, Aziraphale’s life takes a turn he couldn’t have expected. The attraction between them is clear from the start, but there may be more to both of them than it seems on the outside.
