    Lan Xichen is an intelligent man. He is well read, has a degree, a masters, a PhD. He knows three living languages and two dead ones. He has watched a lot of documentaries about animals of all kinds. He is an intelligent man. 
    He knows dogs mark their territory through urine, and he knows that is done on objects and the territory itself. He knows they don’t bite to mark one another and he knows they don’t mate for life or anything like that. He knows wolves don’t really ascribe to the mess of tropes he’s seen in fictional films and TV shows. 
    He knows all this. 
    He just… chooses to hope that could be forgotten for a while.
