It comes out almost pleadingly, the desperation Gustave tried to suppress for months now bleeding into his voice.
Something softens in Verso’s expression.
Or: the Maelle ending. Coming to terms with being brought back and repainted. Gustave is looking for some answers, so he goes to the one person who can provide them. Verso is absolutely done with this life, but feels obligated to at least talk to him.
They find that being a copy of a dead man is less unbearable when you're not alone.

On the day of his wedding, Arthur is roused from his restless sleep before the light of day, so his attendants can begin preparing him.
To say he shudders at the prospect doesn’t do it justice. He’s been in horrors about it ever since he was first presented to the King. He had been a glorious nightmare, inhumanly tall even where he lounged on his throne, robes of golden samite covering a body draped in ways not even remotely human with a carved mask for a face.
They say that the King’s brides go mad from gazing upon his uncovered face. And that it’s a terrible way to die.

Summary
The sun never rises in Cloud City. Owned by distant gods, the world creaks along in techno-magical paralysis, making Contracts with spirits, and limping along in isolated enclaves while monsters run wild in the Wastes.
Five years ago, Arthur Lester, a private investigator, made a Contract with a Summon called Hastur. The deal? His soul in exchange for the identity of his daughter's murderer. Until the time Arthur's soul is ripe for harvesting, Hastur will give him power, and eventually must find Faroe's killer. If he doesn't, they both die, so failure is not an option.
Hastur, however, is not a normal Summon... and it turns out he's come here and chosen Arthur in order to stop a threat that will destroy the entire universe if it succeeds.
Unfortunately, humans aren't meant to channel power like Hastur's, and Arthur's body is beginning to break down. It's a race against time to solve Faroe's murder and stop the incoming threat before he simply drops dead.

They were villains. They were fuck ups. They each had a giant chip on their shoulders that barely let them stand next to each other on a good day. As soon as his voice first came on the group call, they had to give him shit. If they didn’t start harassing him, the Blonde Boss Lady would have benched them thinking they were being mind controlled.
Every handler thought they could “handle” the Phoenix team. Tame them, make them palatable, water them down. Turn them good. So they didn’t like Robert.
But they did like his voice.

Solas had sharp canines. Not so sharp that they could pass as fangs, but they had a slight point to them that most other people didn’t have. It was hard not to notice when he was digging them into you, leaving a vivid red mark that wouldn’t linger beyond the Fade, but that stung and throbbed in the moment. He seemed to like doing it on the softest parts of Rook most: his pecs, his belly, his thighs, like a wolf seeking the softest meat to feast on.
Before the final battle, Rook and Solas find a moment to indulge in each other.
