“You had a life before you woke up in that lab,” Natsume starts when he sees Dazai’s hazy eyes focus on him, “a life where you felt as everyone else, I’m sure of it- and you are going to uncover it. Your ability remains unknown to you and…somewhat to me as well.” He pauses, “There’s a way for you to feel- we have proved it, but I’m not sure how it works just yet…” He admits hesitantly. “So in these two years, we’ll fix this.”
‘You as well..?’ Dazai’s eyes seem to ask.
Natsume smiles, “All three of the tripartite have obtained a business permit, I’m officially retired and in desperate need of a vacation.” He looks Dazai in the eyes, grinning, “so, you’re stuck with me.”

Dazai smiles tightly, looking like a disgruntled cat- a terrifying disgruntled cat, “Anyways, we can’t just ask for admission mid year.”
“Why.”
“That’s how schools work.”
“It’s dumb.”
“I know, I’m sure there’s a logical explanation for it.”
They wait, hoping the logical explanation would come soon. It doesn’t.

Diluc was serving at the tavern, Kaeya sat on the bar in his regular spot.
He had tried to annoy Diluc as usual, but the banter didn’t get too far, all with the many customers celebrating something of some kind, and requesting drink after drink after drink.
Diluc stopped responding to Kaeya after a few minutes, not bothered enough to serve drunks in both drinks and words. And Kaeya didn’t insist.Serving drinks, cleaning, doing basic math for drunkards too inebriated to understand the concept of 2+2. In a flash the night seemed to have gone by. In a flash, the tavern seemed to empty. In a flash, Diluc realized Kaeya was slumped in his stool, head resting over his arm, asleep.

They start talking one day.
Out of nowhere, without prior motivation other than the fragment of a drunken conversation two loud scholars were having by their side almost an hour before any word was exchanged.A simple: “Domestication isn’t a bad thing,” Kaeya had muttered against a glass of wine, pretending Diluc hadn't told him he was closing half an hour ago.
“Domestication changes an animal irreversibly,” Diluc responded with a rag in one hand and a wet glass on the other, also ignoring the fact that he was supposed to close half an hour ago.
