Summary
Before the young god-prince learns of his mother and plots his escape, Zagreus wishes for a bit of earth to plot a garden.
The prince consults Achilles, of all souls, about the act of growing things. Asks for Achilles to describe to him the plants and flowers and trees of the surface world, from the shape of their leaves to their texture and smell. Asks how deep the roots of trees go, what it is like to sit beneath their shade, and listens raptly to all Achilles says of the worms and beetles who live in the dirt.
“I’m afraid I rather took it all for granted.” Achilles admits, ashamed, one day-or-night as Zagreus sits cross-legged on the floor of his chambers patiently while Achilles tries, and fails, to draw a passable image of an olive tree on a sheet of parchment.

Summary
The shade before him is so golden, like that sun he could never quite picture, hair and skin and eyes so bright Patroclus can barely look as close as he needs to, just enough to confirm what he never thought would be true. But then there’s that little furrow of his brow, and the quirk of his lip that betrays his nervousness in a way that has always made Patroclus fall weak with adoration.
It hits him at last, steady like the tide, and Patroclus can’t believe he ever forgot what it feels like to worship.
“Oh,” he says, “Achilles.”
